Tucci’s liberal rant was arguably the best part of the movie because he’s just said both publicly and privately that he doesn’t want the papacy and his views are so extreme that you’re left to wonder if he actually believes what he’s saying or if he’s just trying to commit papal suicide. You can even argue that he WAS trying to an hero his chances so that he could railroad Tremblay for the guaranteed shot at a high office.
