"just one more thing"

"just one more thing"

how do you respond without sounding mad?

columbo.jpg - 1200x900, 502.07K

you can't

if he says that, he's had you nailed to the wall for hours and you just didn't know it. take your medicine like a man

They always make the mistake of trying to fool Columbo instead of just lawyering up and telling him to stay the fuck away or come back with a warrant. Sheer fucking hubris

You're a Gary Stu

Most people do that IRL too. Criminals are rarely very smart

no, child, there is not one more thing, these are your criminal delusions speaking

To be fair, there are plenty of episodes where Columbo is stunted and is just biding his time waiting for an in, the suspects are the retarded ones that doesn't do the proper job to conceal shit or fall to his tactics.
Like the guy that believed the victim's eye lenses fell when moving the body, and thus went back to check the trunk of his car for them. That was a lie Columbo threw in hopes to catch the guy in the act.

Shoot him dead.

I respond by immediately sprinting away

One of my favorite episodes. One of the few times Columbo let's the mask slip and just flat out accuses the perp because of how much he dislikes him. Spock plays such a great villain too

:^)

Excuse me, which eye do I look at?

cop killerrrrr

that makes two of us

No, there will be no one more thing detective, I'm afraid there will be no more "things" at all. Now unless you plan to arrest me, I suggest you remove yourself from my property.

I get arrested or whatever.

am I being detained

I will make no further comment without legal representation

Columbo arrests a perp

Saul Goodman defends him

Does the perp walk away scott free?

Columbo is kind of a sadist if you think about it. He literally toys with perpetrators, while knowing what they did and leads them to believe they have the chance to evade justice.

saul vs columbo rap battle of history would be ebin

*rises up from the ground a la Michael Meyers*

Sir, my question will only take a moment.

he's like a cat playing with his food at his best. When he really has them figured out and they are just starting to crack

Some of you Columbo enjoyers should try reading Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. It's the OG "and one more thing" police detective story.

You think so?

the american remake when they catch you talking shit about you-know-who on X

No sorry I gotta go bye

You think so?

Well I know so because the people who created Columbo have explicitly said that Columbo is based on Porfiry, the detective in C&P. And although I read it while ago, I vividly remember the slow, friendly but inevitble tightening of the noose that Porfiry does to Raskolnikov.

It has the same structure. The murder happens at the start. You know who did it and how and why. In fact you even know he's going to be caught, it's in the title.

Criminals are rarely very smart

positivism bias par excellence. youre like these retarded engineer in WW2 who "analyzed" the parts who got damaged most on their bombers by antiair-fire (which made it back) - and then strenghtened these.

but never had the idea that they had a "positive bias" on the subject. cause the bombers who didnt made it back were the ones who needed "analyzing" of parts. but how? dont need to be a genius fr that conclusion: invert the "empiric proof" of the surviving bombers. thats all they had to do. just like you.

you will never hear or read of the successfull ciminals. not frem themselves and not from your "security services" or government (cause they like to hide their failures). just invert the "solved crimes"-statistics, buddy.

Eh, porfiry had the benefit of raskolnikov feeling guilty about whacking the babushka. Columbo's targets are always cocky and don't give a fuck. Plus it's told from paskolnikov's point of view.

Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky

I've recently finished this and worry about how much of it went over my head.

The police parts are the best bit.
It's like being in a JCS video.

The cop doesn't even accuse Raskalnikov for 3/4 of the novel, just talks to him normally while Rask suffers internally.

Yeah but you only know he's feeling guilty because you reading it from his POV as you mentioned. He doesn't actually SHOW his guilt to Porfiry until close to the end of the story when he starts to crack.

Yeah I like how claustrophobic it gets. I guess it's more psychology than anything else. Porfiry is a great character though

Raskol is a coomer trying to fix a hoe, and she somehow actually finds god when he suffers like Christ. She had to see him fall. thats what I remember most

That's because Columbo's creators took him directly from Porfiry.

The episode with George Wendt kind of broke that wall, he tells him there will not be one more thing. I was kind of disappointed in the episode as a whole, but it seemed very characteristic of a George Wendt character.

that's the opposite of what happened though, the SRG at Columbia drew the right conclusions from surviving bombers.

The Statistical Research Group (SRG)... examined the damage done to aircraft that had returned from missions and recommended adding armor to the areas that showed the least damage.

...Wald proposed that the Navy reinforce areas where the returning aircraft were unscathed,

Yes and no. No, the SRG was going to make the incorrect conclusion until this one guy decided not to. Yes, the eventual decision they made was correct.
Just say survivorship bias dumbass. Everyone knows the plane story.

detective, the actress is 18 years old

Yes Lt.
What do you want?

This
Also some of the "evidence" he has against them is laughable at best. No court or judge would take it seriously.

In many episodes, the criminal's name is actually cleared by a court/judge. All they then have to do is to just not open the door for columbo, get a restraining order and completely ignore him unless he has a warrant.

youtube.com/watch?v=gnQIOm2KimA

Then there is this episode. This is so pathetic. The fact that Columbo accidently dropped the original photo and destroyed it, would NEVER hold up in court and the whole case would most likely be dismissed if the suspect has a decent lawyer, followed by probably a legal lawsuit against the LAPD (at least, i would sue them). All the criminal had to say was this and walk out the door. It doesn't matter if Columbo testifies for this, nor does it matter if the picture is really reversed or not, if the original is missing. They have mishandled evidence and destroyed it, that alone is grounds for dismissal of the entire case. Hell, Columbo would probably have been demoted if not fired on the spot for such a mistake at best and charged with evidence tampering at worst.
Now if Columbo then came forward and said "Well i actually lied, the evidence is still there" then that is entrapment. Also that evidence doesn't ACTUALLY prove the guy was the murderer, so yeah. Once again, case dismissed.

Nigger.

I burst into a blustery speech about how, if I was actually the killer, that I'd never have done any of the things that I believe he is implying I've done, and that furthermore that if I WERE the killer, I'd never have made those silly mistakes, and on top of that, if he keeps pestering me with all these RIDICULOUS accusations, that my lawyer will have a word with him and that I'll see to it that he loses his badge!...

But I'd try to be smooth about it and play it like a joke, even give him a little smile and a laugh and compliment him before I go.

mad.gif - 350x188, 1.5M

I'd try to fuck him. he wouldn't see that coming.

Just start dancing and sing "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band. Distract the entire room and get them involved in the dancing, he's polite so he'll not stop you, when everyone is in a full dance off, slip away and race for freedom. He'll not catch you.

I always figured Columbo’s “evidence” was just a tool to apply pressure and make the killers break down and confess.

He's married.

Ask my lawyer about it, I'm no longer speaking

roll credits

uh, you don't get to mention more things
