Can The Critic work in 2025?
Can The Critic work in 2025?
I would lovitz
He's on board with it.
Anything can work at any time. Stop asking these dumb questions or lamenting "they couldn't do this today!"
It's fucking retarded.
Say something that matters faggot
just make with mike stoklasa
Absolutely not under Disney
an actor who i used to respect and admire
now reduced to pleading for likes and subs on whatever shitty platform
this world fucking SUCKS. just leave it buried.
I love Jon, and would love to see Jay make a comeback in his later years. What would the show be about though? Movies don't just stink anymore. They're way worse. Would Jay be trying to re-invent himself post-american-cinema?
The new critic should have more Christian themes.
I don't see it working. Movie critics aren't the same beast they were three decades ago.
Movie culture, like car culture, is basically dead. The Critic wouldn't work today, you can't parody films that nobody has seen, nobody cares about, and the few people that actually did see it forgot all about it by the next morning.
They’ll never allow him to say woke propaganda garbage stinks
I think this could have worked in 2005 but they waited too long. I remember back in the day message board nerds bitched about how Family Guy ripped off The Critic.
You’re right. Today movie critics are literally paid shills, libtards, and troons
Yes, exactly.
I’ve been hoping for this show to come back since I was a kid, when I was 10 and this show was on FOX it dumbfounded me that something so funny could be abruptly cancelled or taken off the air, the first show that made me realize fuck if I like some new show I better tape them all because one day itll suddenly be yankee from the air and I’ll never be able to see it again (this was before shows getting compete dvd releases and old stuff now being able to be found on YouTube and shit now, in the dark days of the pre-internet 90s once something was gone it was gone forever
Isn’t half the main cast dead now? (Duke, jays son Marty, Doris)
Anyone who criticizes woke propaganda gets cancelled
It was The Critic and The Dana Carvey Show the following year come to think of it. Also made me realize the normies have shit taste when anytime something funnier than almost anything on tv at the time would always be the shot cancelled so fast
critic get ipad
Yes, that's generally true as well. I'm glad we agree on these talking points.
It's Slop!
It would rapidly become about stuff other than film. Although then again maybe that happened with the original. I'm thinking of episodes and all I got is:
Chickens can't fly
Orson Welles and peas
Lawrence of Arabia homage episode
Easter Island kid can't enter the sleepover
Hostage taking at a theatre
2000s and early 2010s would have been the golden period post 90s.
Jesus why did Jay's son die? I assume doris of age and duke of age.
Black Lives Matter.
Jays son was voiced by the chick who did Dexter on Dexters Lab and Babe the pig and Tommy on Rugrats and a lot of other shit, suddenly retired from voice acting in the early 2000s never giving a reason then died a decade or so later, no official cause of death ever given but some people online who claimed to be in the know said cancer but nobody seems to be able to confirm for sure
Went to look it up
youtube.com
Now hold on there a minute chumly, I'm on the phone with the spastic colon people and they're not happy. Can you hold? Oh, you can't.
Oops it was chuckle on rugrats not tommy, tommy was EG Daly I think who had a similar voice I always mixed them up in cartoons
I can't see The Critic's return as anything other than grimdark-self-loathing-comedy, which isn't all that funny and wouldnt be appreciated in these already dark and depressing times.
I feel like most of the show would revolve around Jay being a depressed old man who's long since lost his job as Critic because no one cared about critics or the substance of movie plots, and movies just kept getting dumber and dumber till the death of theaters.
That'd really be the crux of the show's comedy: Death, loss, lamenting, mourning, remembering, etc, etc.
There's good dark comedy there, sure, but it'd be too depressing to last very long, and most normies hate dark comedy that isn't Bri'ish slop anyway.
Kino!
Yeah I had to look it up, surprising and tragic. It probably was cancer but coulda been some brain aneurism or some such. As much as I like the idea of the critic again, and I am a 'bit' less fearful of reboots nowadays because of the tide turning against the progressive bullshit fanfictionizing it just would feel hollow I think comedy wise. Same way I enjoyed seeing some old clips of community How the fuck is it 14 years old but knowing that comedy wouldn't go anywhere today. And not just aged or faux pas references, just that kind of humor doesn't work for people who weren't raised with it and who are oversocialized to follow acceptable generational humor.
I don't mean that in a 'abloo bloo bloo zoomers/alphas' way, since the same was true in millennial times and a lot not being able to appreciate old warner bros humor.
Safe and effective
Youre not allowed to criticize movies anymore since theyre all designed to be leftist propaganda pieces so it would never be approved
Eh, she can be recast. Especially if the show takes place years later. Marty would be an adult, and would be post puberty. You can get him a new VA if it really mattered and came down to it.
Also, GOD, I forgot this show started in 94. I feel like it was more 96 or 98. I'm getting too old for this getting old shit.
It’s honestly scary. The industry is ideologically captured
I remember finding her cute when she was on an episode of Cheers (one of the few life action roles she’s done)
youtube.com
Weird how that voice is cute when you see her in real life but in cartoons it’s perfect for playing boys
The original series wasn't good
A reboot would be worse
Simple as that
Yeah I was thinking it was my quite that old then again maybe that’s because I remember it more from all the Comedy Central reruns from the late 90s into the early 2000s, probably where I caught most of them, I saw a bit of the run on FOX just before they cancelled it but was too young to remember it much, Comedy Central was where I think a lot more people found it a couple years later.
Also get that guy who replaced Charles Napier (voice of Duke) as the sheriff after season one kn Squidbillies as Duke, he sounded just like Napier where you’d barely notice it was a different actor.
Tranny joke played for laughs 10 seconds in
I miss the 90s
Absolutely not under Disney
This is the real problem, any company that makes it would force it to hold back any real criticism if the slop they are shitting out. It would have no teeth, or worse, he'd be criticizing old stuff for being "problematic."
How many VAs from the original run are even still alive?
Just Lovitz and Maurice
Despite ostensibly being about film, much of the humor in the Critic was about global politics & then-current events, back when people could poke fun at all of that, and both sides of the aisle back home, without anybody going to war. No, I don't think it could exist in modern Hollywood. It would either be limp and tame, or bitter and resentful. Who's going to write it? Modern day retards who haven't seen the pendulum swing past the edge of their nose.
yes, if they steer clear of politics
and just focus on making fun of movies
thats where the animaniacs reboot failed
based
Modern day Lovitz is a maga chud isn’t he? It’ll prolly be cringe maga boomer anti-woke shit like The New Norm
anti-woke is cringe
How brown are you, on a scale from no father to liquor store holdup?
Nothing can work in 2025.
cartoons would replace voice actors often, now we can just do ai voices
ai can animate from stills without needing a farm in korea
ai can generate the storyboards
it's never been easier to make cartoons
these guys made this in ONE DAY
youtube.com
ai can animate from stills without needing a farm in korea
AI still struggles with continuity, that's the key to progressing to where it can help people create narratives. AI videos still have faces that change within a second. Trying to maintain a character is vital
