I prefer Alien because the characters are a lot less stupid, but Aliens is still a good time

Both great films but Aliens definitely takes the cake. Problem with watching Alien so many years later is that the big “scares” are quite redundant by todays standards. One of the big ones just has a dude (who is obviously in costume) raise his hands towards the character like some mummy in a 50s film and that’s it. Still, a lot of the scenes look fucking fantastic and you really can’t fault the set design

It and Prometheus are the only ones that challenge the established tropes and think of new possibilities.

Aliens is a little more entertaining but Alien has the better atmosphere. Aliens has better costumes and monster designs but Alien has a much scarier monster. Frankly I could flip a coin.

I just watched both of them the last two nights. Alien is a much better movie to me. Aliens is a great movie, but more in a fun less serious way, kinda like Predator. The cinematography of the original mogs aliens and the pacing is seriously perfect. It perfectly strings you along the entire movie keeping you engaged and ready for what's up next. On a rewatch it's very interesting to notice little clues and weird behaviors by ash that he had his own mission that he was hiding from the crew.

Aliens is fine, but it feels like they bastardized the xenomorph too much. I do like the colonial marines tho. I think the Aliens script could have been the perfect Doom film, rather than that dogshit one with The Rock and Annihilation.

They didn't do a single thing that was different from the first movie. All that was stopping the Nostromo crew from easily shooting and killing it was the acid. They had guns. It's not invincible. The dozens of aliens showed that they were smart and able to adapt and outflank the marines. They won every engagement except one. They were far more terrifying than the singular original alien. And the original alien is not much of a threat outside that specific instance of an unsuspecting, ignorant crew not wanting to damage their ship and with a secret android assisting the alien.

False, it even outsmarted Dallas who had a gun that counters it (flamethrower)

They could have used their real gun or even explosives and it would have been toast. Instead they go for standard horror movie tropes: break up and go off alone into the dark, with equipment malfunctioning and can't pin point where the thing is. Plus be as cautious as possible since this ship is expensive and they have to pay for any damages.
