I miss these epic shows that might have not been perfect, but they were fun. They knew not to take themselves too seriously. Shit like the wheel of time or the rings of power are simply disgusting. Low budget shows like The Legend of The Seeker mogs them so hard.

Not to mention Spartacus had a wonderful "diverse" cast but they sought to cast good actors rather than the producer's wife's black friend from acting class.

My favourite moment is just at the end when Gannicus is being crucified and he starts hallucinating seeing himself in the arena, the public applauding and he simply laughs. SOVL.

I respect Spartacus a lot for completely committing to its very stylized depiction and heightened reality. It's 300-inspired with the greenscreen and slo-mo but takes it even further. The heavy orange colour palette, the oddly desolate looking Italy, the dialogue evoking some of the sentence structure of Latin, the gratuitous and over the top gore and sex, the grand melodrama between characters, it all winds up feeling like an oral story someone told about a great man being brought to life as they told it rather than literally as it happened. It's totally unique among 2010s historical/fantasy shows (and there were a lot) as a result.
