My interpretation of the end of The Leftovers suggests that. The first 2 seasons show "religion bad" "belief bad and useless / will only mess your life up" but them in the end Kevin nukes the "afterlife" that wasn't really heaven which stopped the floods from happening.
Of course everyone in the real world thinks "oh we were wrong the floods didnt come" but that was because kevin saved them. People always disagree with me but i can't see how I am wrong, we watch everything play out with floods happening > kevin drowns himself > nukes afterlife > floods stop

That movie bothered me because she conjurs flower petals out of thin air and the literal next scene is her screaming about the ritual not working.
I get it was "hell" messing with emotions but the juxtapostion of those 2 scenes soured me on the whole thing

I think one of the things OP is getting at is how there is a bold movement of pointing out bad aspects of religion.
Something worth noting with this movement is there is never really some sort of alternative solution, it's just whining.
The Catholic church alone operates 5,245 hospitals around the world. Most certainly not all of these hospitals are run perfectly but at least they provide a service to humanity whereas militant atheists make no attempt at this and rely on their governments.
