Has anyone here actually stuck with the simpsons since the 90s?

i would guess my story is a common one - was obsessed with the show in the 90s during its glory days, then my viewing got spotty in the 2000s, to the point where i eventually just stopped watching it around season 15 or so. is there anyone here who's been a true diehard, watching every episode every sunday night (or thursdays if you're a real OG) for the last 25+ years? did you find your allegiance faltering at any point or have you enjoyed it most of the way through?

(as a contrast, i have stuck with family guy since 1999 and watched every episode, good and bad, up till present day)

I have watched every episode

As a child the absolute decline in quality by 2001 was jarringly obvious.
I catch clips of it occassionally when my wife watches it on tv and I cant fathom why anybody would watch this shit.
It must be like a restaurant that was great in the day but now the foods shit and the place is dirty but people keep going because they got used to going there regularly.

Always watched the Treehouse of Horror episodes as soon as they came out. Gave up on the regular series around 2012 or 2014 ish.

Then caught up on the regular episodes there over covid, and then with the last few seasons in 2024. Been watching the new ones as they come out on Disney Plus.

It's fine. Well above average for TV cartoon adult / family animated comedy. The only thing for older fans is that it won't ever be the greatest thing to ever be shown on TV again, but it really was that for a few years in the 90s.

I might have missed a episode here or there, you can decide fast if a new episode is watchable

I tried watching a modern Simpsons episode after not seeing the show for over a decade and I couldn't make it through as Marge's VA sounded like she was on her death bed

She sounds like she’s doing Marge’s mom’s voice the whole time.

I watched it religiously ever since I was can remember because my parents were Xers that grew up with it. It was a serious part of my life growing up.
They stopped watching after they made the Bart Simpson feminist episode (my Mom was particularly angered and offended by it given she was an actual riot grrrl in the 90s), and as a result since I've only watched one episode from every new season to see how shitty it is and what type of shitty it is.

I watched the simpsons until like 2016 I think

Hyped lasted at least 5 more years for me Born in 89 and loved most of the 90s Simpsons, including the impostor Skinner episode. Still enjoyed most of the early 2000s but 2000s second half is where it started to go downhill pretty fast. early 2010s was not boring, but mediocre at best. By late 2010s it was already crap.

Season 8 is where i cut them off

when it was good, it was great. but to see it bad just hurts

It's incredible to see the creativity and passion of the first seasons; just how many memes and iconic moments came from the first five seasons alone? I stopped watching ten years ago. The magic is gone.

I tried when there used to be threads on Anon Babble

Viewership numbers suggest that very few people have stuck with it and in fact in any random group of people you’ll be unlikely to find a regular viewer
That’s the real answer. I’d say that even on a tv and film board no one watches this anymore
Regular viewer numbers are about 0.5% of the US population
None of them are here but this is Anon Babble so you’ll get people like fp who write improbable nonsense to be annoying
this is representative of most people
I watched an episode about 5 years ago and it was not merely boring, it was irritating
It reminded me more of that pajeet Velma show than of original simpsons

The only thing for older fans is that it won't ever be the greatest thing to ever be shown on TV again, but it really was that for a few years in the 90s.

I watched it starting in the early 1990s when it was first aired over here. I was the same age as Bart Simpson. It was literally the best thing I had ever seen, it jumped right off the screen. Characters were relatable, the comedy was actually funny. It really connected. And it was huge. Everybody I knew loved it. I was on holiday in France once and remember seeing some Frenchies watching it and laughing along.

Finally stopped watching it at some point in the mid 2000s because the quality had been gone for years. Have given it a chance every now and then. It's never good. Sometimes it's about as okay as you could hope for, but other times the cringe is painful. And I hate how stiff and robotically drawn the animation has become. It used to be loose, and it seemed like they were having fun.

It's just been bad so much longer than it was ever good now. The shame is that at its best it was absolutely golden. It was a perfect diamond.

You parents sound like total faggots and you sound underage

You parents sound like total faggots

It's an opposite attracts thing. She was a riot grrrl and my Dad was a skinhead back in the day.

underage

21 years young

God your dad got that uppity feminist cunt pussy back in the day damn thats hot Like, she was talking all that your a toxic masculine pig and your dad fucked her up the ass or something haha

Marge no longer has the obnoxious beehive hairdo? Maybe I'll give Simpsons another chance

I stopped watching broadcast TV like 15 years ago, but about 5 years back I tried keeping up with the show whenever I had a sub for Hulu. I've been caught up, and 95% of it is so forgettable and awful for retconning the classic show. The Treehouse of Horrors are usually good.

Yeah it's a freak thing. They both related to being politically radical poorfags who survived awful early lives in a shitty, dilapidated urban environment full of gang violence and drugs and united through the power of edgy music and hatred of their boomer parents. I had a very countercultural childhood and upbringing as a result. It was great.

zoomers are the best generation, faggot

Bob’s Burgers is what The Simpsons should have grown into.

Bob's Burgers is terrible.

I wonder how many people have watched every episode live or soon after (made a lot easier with catchup these days) for all those years. What would the number of people be and what would those people be like. I've seen people claim to have done it for serials for decades, but then Simpsons isn't the type of appointment viewing like that since you don't have to watch them in any order. Perhaps heads of websites/facebook groups that take their role way too seriously and think they have to watch them all, but these kind of things are kind of fascinating.

the tony hawk episode was when I dropped it
300th (not really, they just pretend - it's even a joke) episode

No, not a single person here is that masochistic and stupid. Maybe you'll find better luck in Simpsons fansites and communities like No Homers Club which is somehow still alive.

BB was fantastic for the first 4 seasons and good for another 3. Then it became low effort Tumblrfag crap.
Those types criminally underrate S1.

Something about the show made it hard to watch around the time Phil Hartman was killed and they started using the character Gill more.

flintstones marge can get it

what are the refences in the pic

Great song

Shitty new season crap.
BTW treehouse of horror last year referenced EVA and Anon Babble

What are the references here?

Bobs Burgers is fucking awful so I’m unsure what you mean by this, anon-kun

Spare the faggot brackets reddit nigger

He's definitely a reddit tourist

That whole record is great and I can't recommend it enough. It's by a Northern Irish punk band who made it as a concept record about The Troubles in 1979, which makes it a lot more potent than other political punk which was far more of a larp or tongue in cheek.
My Dad loved it because he could relate closely to it as a gangster in early 90s Phoenix and really felt for the Irish (he's of Scots-Irish extraction).

The Simpsons should have died off a lot time ago. They don't age the characters, so the whole timeline gets reconned. Homer and Marge are millennials now yet there VA sound like they should be in a retirement home.

And where were you in 2016, milennialfag? I (and most zoomer men) never used that shitty milennial shitlib containment site full of feds ands shills.

I gave up around season 15 or so and sporadic watches throughout the years taught me it was the right choice, seasons 1-8 had this universal appeal despite the varying tone of each season that made the show interesting to international audiences, but in the last few seasons I watched I noticed the show becoming more focused on American concepts (Most likely in an attempt to compete with South Park), which coupled with the decaying quality of the overall writting made it impossible for me to muster any interest in it, one of the last episodes I watched like a decade ago was so tonally bizarre that it left me completely speechless, it was some thing about Homer wearing a gravy boat on his head and talking so overtly like a republican hillbilly stereotype complete with a random celeb, it really drove home the fact that there was zero humanity left in the show, I mean, the golden years also had political episodes but even as a non-American it was fun to watch them simply based on the cartoony antics and the silly premises, like how rampantly corrupt Quimby was or how the republicans of Sprinfield were presented like literal vampires and shit, yeah it was slanted but it was fun.
