I know youre going to hate this but the reason the squid in the comic is necessary is because it transcends irl politics like Harry Truman, who im frankly not even educated on so your reference is lost on me. Rorschach is the main protagonist of Watchmen, you're supposed to like him, even if you don't agree with him.

if Alan Moore actually wanted you to hate him, he wouldn't have put multiple scenes basically spelling out that Rorschach is much more a normal human being than he wants to portray himself as, and all his right wing beliefs are a front of a good man following his view of Justice in a shithole that he hates but can't stop caring about and trying to protect it despite hating it.

FDR's previous vice president before Truman, Henry Wallace, was a Soviet simp and would have rolled over and given them everything they wanted had he taken over instead of Truman.

Everyone understands this, people like rorschach because he died for what he believed in and because they think he was correct. I think it's a very small minority of people who read this and then come away thinking hes good because hes depressed and edgy or something. I have seen way more people rail against that point of view than i've seen people actually express it.

Snyder, being retarded, got the whole theme wrong because in the movie Rorschach comes across as a totally cool edgy 13 year old hero and Ozymandias comes across as a reptilian.
The point is that the only one who doesn't tolerate the heroism of the most noble and intelligent man in the world is a filthy, inferior little man.

Ozymandias' squid was not just an act of cruelty, but the plan that the world's smartest man created after putting all of humanity's science, art, and modern pop culture together was a ridiculous joke.

The Comedian finally started crying because he had witnessed a part of Ozymandias' plan and couldn't laugh at the joke.

both of these i say as someone who liked the movie, but i liked it more as a visual feast and only worth watching if you've read the comic book and want to see some of the scenes brought to life, which is something it did well. i remember thinking "this must seem like a confusing mess to anyone who hasn't read the comic" and my friend who saw it with me confirmed he was confuesd at times.

Compare the prison attack with Dan and Laurie in the comics, they're having a conversation as they casually just walk through and beat escaping convicts with minimal effort, then in the movie it's them flipping and slow motion shots of dramatic arm breakings and all that shit. I would also remark that save for a smattering of non-white characters (and non-white creators) these books and these iconic characters are still very much white supremacist dreams of the master race.
