You raise a good point, there comes a point when flanderization sets in & you become a parody of the content you’re trying to reproduce. The fact that he had a family I think over 7 years now shows his edge has dulled and he really can’t go back to the extreme version of AVGN like he could in his 20s. & his catalogue is only getting shorter & shorter he’s basically reviewed most shitty games there are; (at least western games). However I hold out hope that one day he’ll make that perfect script, something back to form yet innovative. Idk what that would look like since much of his stuff is fairly milk toast rn (I genuinely enjoyed the Pepsi man review). I guess what I fear is if he does retire there’ll be a power vacuum where a new AVGN like figure will step up but only be a sad imitation of what James is trying to accomplish. At the end of the day the entertainment factor should come in first and always, review comes in second. That plus the dude is a comfortable personality having him retire would just seem too soon. Imo. The problem really is his writing doesn’t have that punch it used to, his angst is gone, he isn’t as spiteful & he’s lost his funny.
He could make more episodes based of the shit he rushed through for Christmas. The episode was great btw.
I liked the part where he almost beat the game, but since he altered the timeline, his past self ended up destroying it. It doesn't make sense, but I liked it. I would have preferred that he filmed it as a joke instead of an epic ending, but whatever.
