Scenes the writers wish weren't filmed edition
Andor General
Here we see two attempts to blend cultural influences to create an alien society. One looks like a middling BBC historical miniseries, and the other looks like a transmission from a dream. What makes the difference? Something to do with a mind capable of grasping cosmic romance.
Anyone else kinda disappointed they didn't kill off the majority of the minor characters? the "he has a kid" asspull seemed particularly pointless
Cassian was sleeping with Bix for about 3 or so years
I can't believe he had a kid!!!
I'll give you two characters having a hookup and the women just so happens to be ovulating and has the main characters kid is contrived but in this case it makes perfect sense Cassian would get Bix pregnant especially since it seemed like he was settling down with her.
I guess my point is I really thought they were going to kill Bix off to transform Cassian into the "fuck it I'll kill whoever I need to" character we get at the start of the movie versus the man we see at the end of the series. There's a disconnect there and it's not really explained.
Also it creates a problem of "we created these semi-pivotal characters for the rebellion that were never seen again" issue
What the fuck am I supposed to watch now that Andorkino is gone?
Clarkson's farm starts in a week or two
Can someone help me out. So in Rogue One, Tarkin is able to usurp the Death Star project due to security concerns about the project being leaked when in reality it was never Krennics fault but some random jobber who sent intel Dedra was never supposed to have which led her going Rogue to catch Luthen something that Krennic could not have possibly foresaw or predicted. Not to mention all of this was leaked out by a mole who Krennic would have had no idea was feeding ISB intel out who wasn't directly connected to Stardust. It seems like by the end of Andor Krennic was the only compentent one in the entirety of Imperial High Command.
The leak that Tarkin was able to crucify Krennic over was Galen's leak via the pilot
Rogue One was written and directed by two other people and Blandor was just directed by Gilroy, hope this helps.
I'm genuinely so dejected that of the billions of dollars poured into Disney Star Wars Andor was the best and only thing we got. I'm glad it at least happened its the best piece of Star Wars ever produced and written.
its the best piece of Star Wars ever produced and written
This is blatantly false.
Best Star Wars out of Disney sure
Hold on this is true but wouldn't by that point that be inconsequential considering the intel about Stardust is already loose. Wouldn't Tarkin at least assume that the information would get out eventually. On top of that what was Krennic going to do just straight up murder the leading architect of the Death Star?
you know there's a leak from the lead architect but you don't know what he said
seems a bit more consequential than
some stupid ISB supervisor found out staff lists
On top of that what was Krennic going to do just straight up murder the leading architect of the Death Star?
Have you heard of the Tarkin Doctrine?
No Jedi and Force ass pull
No kid pandering
No two dimensional plot
Actions have consequences
Outside of Andor the next best Star Wars media is the original. Nobody wants to talk about it but Empire is where Star Wars jumped the shark with its refusal to kill of Han Solo and introducing Force Ghosts.
obviously we have the afterglow of it just coming out stifling objectivity. But what do you think is the penultimate best piece of Star Wars media
OT, and out of the OT either Star Wars or Empire.
Without those Andor doesn't exist period. Being a very competent but still minor world building doesn't make it the best thing ever.
Similar feelings around something like Shadows of the Empire - it fills in gaps but without the originals it's nothing.
Well Tarkin was a retard with no vision.
Hurr the rebels are only a rag tag team of a few hundred
Lets bring the super cumbersome top secret weapon and not a strike fleet
Was the only retarded part of A New Hope but Tarkin lacked foresight.
Empire isn't even that good. Jedi is saved by 3rd act and the Tatooine portion is almost worth skipping entirely
Empire is good by fleshing out the world that was introduced by ANH
Agreed on RotJ, the third act is really good but the first and second are mediocre
Only problems with Andor
First two arcs of S2 mostly wasted, could’ve been more economical with screen time or added a few more episodes
doesn’t make sense that Lonni would knowingly burn himself without any backup plan five years into this shit
not enough screen time on the formation of the Alliance and what that actually means
it’s extremely jarring to watch rogue one and it might’ve been better if show andor was just a different dude entirely
Otherwise it’s great. S1 is literally perfect, the singular thing I would change is greebling up the AK props that appear for two seconds ok Aldhani. That’s literally it
How do we feel about watching Andor in relation to the whole series in regards to Star Wars as a family franchise (read: not "for kids" but able to be watched with kids with parents also not being bored out of their minds, which in the last two decades seems to be a lost art). As it goes, Andor is a viable replacement to Rebels in the full canon timeline but its tone is obviously far darker and touches on themes that wouldn't be directly referenced in the mainline films. not like they wearnt there at all, its just they were often cut away whereas Andor has explicit name dropping of sexual assault, torture and drugs being taken on screen.
imo its fine if your kids are in middle school but underneath it might be worth skipping. I'm glad they had the balls to actually go where they went though, i think this series is a true representation of "parental guidance advised". Of course thats asking too much of a lot of normie parents to take responsibility for what their children watch, hence the whole stink over the episode 3 scenes.
Aside from a bit of language, there's really nothing in Andor that would make me nervous about showing to a kid 10 and up
It seems like by the end of Andor Krennic was the only competent one in the entirety of Imperial High Command.
He was done dirty. Then again, Vader is probably pulling strings behind the scenes to hamstring efforts against separatist and republic loyalist rebels, because he can't challenge the Emperor without some chaos.
I still don't get the sperging out over AKs when the MG42s and Mauser pistols were used in the original star wars.
Andor is pretty tame. Yeah sure by mainstream Star Wars standards its the edgy kid sitting by himself at the corner lunch table that everyone pretends doesn't exist but its still very tame.
Wilmon should have died on Gorman.
Bix should have died offscreen.
Change my mind.
The AK is just THE gun of the 20th century so much so that even the most retarded of anti gun normies can recite it by name. to a normie a mg42 is just "a machine gun" and the mauser is just "One of those ww2 pistols". The problem with that prop is they really needed to alter the barrel and handguard, its just too distinctive.
I’m fine with AKs as the base for a prop, but the silhouette with the mag and the sight is just too iconic. They should’ve thrown on a weirdly placed scope and cables and shit beyond just spraying it black. It’s a tiny nitpick though, just goes to show how good S1 is.
Season 2 has that New Vegas feel about it that its great but you have that scratching feeling that it could of been more with the proper time and budget. I definitely feel like a lot was left on the cutting room floor. Weather thats due to efficiency or executive meddling who knows but I would love the behind the scenes story of S2 because it seems like Gilroy scraped by just barley getting a good season out the door. Not as good as season 1 but it could of been so much worse.
I really thought in the last few minutes they were going to have Cassian find out that Kleya is his sister. Considering Luthen found her as an orphan on an unnammed planet I thought thats what they were setting up especially with Cassian dreaming about his sister. Makes me feel like they backed out last minute. Kleyas arc feels oddly incomplete
they did what they needed too with the time they had which in of itself is a feat. i think long term it is actually the right decision. 4 more seasons just leaves a lot of room for stagnation and disappointment and its better to do it now when the Cast isn't too much older from their Rogue One appearances as well.
They probably got fucked by the strike midway through production. Even if they saw that they needed a rework, they probably would’ve been out of time
Maybe to both. I would of been okay with Bix never being seen or heard from again. Wilmon I thought was going to die in a terror attack to bring his arc full circle or die fighting with Saw so yeah.
The entire Saw screentime arc was like 20 minutes of wasted runtime that went absolutely nowhere other than to remind everyone that Saw exists
Now that i think about it, that scene with Saw stealing the gas made me think Wilmon was going to defect to Saw's group. I assume that would have been a point of conflict if that arc was the main plot for a season but later on Wilmon is just back with the mainline Alliance straight away.
also the fact that he breathed in a toxic, apparently addictive, gas is never mentioned agian
Nobody wants to talk about it but Empire is where Star Wars jumped the shark with its refusal to kill of Han Solo and introducing Force Ghosts.
Star Wars ANH is the best ending to Andor, ESB and ROTJ are as unnecessary as the sequel trilogy
it's just retards, ignore them
Classism always just killed whoever. That was established in the first episode of season one and also in the Mon mothma recovery.
Objectively correct. I have yet to hear Empire defenders tell me why its so good without falling about on esoteric reasoning.
Worldbuilding
Nigga what worldbuilding the only REAL world building we get is the training scenes with Yoda and him explaining the force all of which is completely undercut with fucking Ben being there as a force ghost. If Ben could appear before Luke and talk with him WHY WOULD HE NOT JUST TRAIN HIM AS A GHOST
Cassian** pardon my phone posting
Really? Where in the season was it established he'd kill supposedly loyal informants just to get away when it was convenient (which is how he's introduced in rogue one)? Because in the last episode of the series he had the same opportunity and did the exact opposite
Everyone in the Luthen cell is trained on it. Luthen after Aldhani has Kleya track down Cassian so they can kill him because he's a loose end, Cinta kills Tay Kolma after Mon mention he's getting unhappy with his Rebel ties, Luthen burns Kregor so the ISB doesn't get spooked and Luthen kills Lonnie because he's the biggest loose end of them all. Its clear Luthen has at the very least made them complacent with the fact their comrades will get axed the moment they become a liability for the insurgency.
Who are you Anon Babble Andor General Scenes the writers wish weren't filmed edition?
I also thought that. Thought it was going to lead to Saw going a lot more radical and breaking away from Luthen to do some serious strikes against the Empire. Guess not.
How in the hell did the Empire not absolutely crumble after the fall of the Death Star considering they were purging high ranking officers like crazy before it even blew up. Can't imagine the absolutely mass graves Palpatine ordered after it was destroyed.
The Expanse
Foundation
Severance
Severance
Yeah not watching that R*ddit crap
It was the beginning of the end
How in the hell did the Empire not absolutely crumble after the fall of the Death Star
That gives me an idea.
Andor spiritual success but set between ANH and ESB. No Luke, Han, or Leia cameos; purely about the rebellion growing out of control and the Imperial government being in zombie mode as Palpatine scrambles to keep power.
i was in the parades
the emperor was there
I wonder how Palpatine actually presented himself to the public. Do we ever see much of that in any comics or books? Or even what he does in his spare time? What's he actually like outside of when the main plot of Star Wars is going on?
It could work. Considering Kleya is still alive she could be the central character. Wilmon is also still alive. Just call the show 'Marki'
Yeah apparently he just collects art and sith artifacts. He really spent a lot of his waking time on his super weapons. On how he presented himself to the public he always larped as a feeble but stern old man guiding the Empire.
Vel is also still around
Eh I would only want more Vel if they have Mon soften her edges and shes stops with the whole woe is me shit. I lost a lot of respect for Vel with how wishy washy she was on the Rebellion compared to everyone else.
you could start by watching something actually good
the mg42 and mauser were modified to actually look different, the ak was not
They did go full retard and commit to "unga bunga smash them with brute force!" after this. Can't explain the Death Star II because no one has bothered writing anything for it.
It's funny, we can nearly plot the entire history of the Death Star on a timeline at this point but the 2nd one just appears out of no where.
The first one atleast needed investment and R&D as a first attempt, subsequent projects after are a little easier once you have the infrastructure in place, although 10 years of construction vs "lol we made one a year or so later" seems rather contrived. granted, its actual shell is barely finished and it seems that it was made half assed as a ploy to draw out the rebel fleet into a pitched naval battle over Endor with Death Star fire support.
Can't explain the Death Star II because no one has bothered writing anything for it
simple
they had the plans and the necessary labor force, they just expedited the work by using direct hires instead of outside contractors
besides that it wasn't close to complete, they had a working superlaser and 60% external shielding but a lot of internal work still needed to be done
let me put it this way. the freedom tower took 6 years to build whereas the original twin towers took ten. the freedom tower is taller by 200 ft.
... and being 'the only competent one' is no defence in any kind of bureaucracy, be it democractic, totalitarian, socialist or otherwise. The backstabbing bitches that infest any kind of organisation of that size will stick the knives in anyway. Often especially if you're successful.
Reportedly it was $344 million total for Andor. With the three-episode arc format basically equivalent to a film, that's a decent 43 million per each of the eight 'movies'.
I could mostly buy it, the know-how should be here here, they already have Ghorman cracked open for all the deep, substrate, FOLIATED Kalkite they need, same for other materials and components they should have the sourcing and logistics already figured out, they have mostly ironed out the kinks and speed over secrecy is now the priority. And it's not even completed at the end. In theory it's fine.
But there is one big problem. The second Death Star is much larger than the first, that means the plans were modified which means they need more materials, more manpower more time etc than before. Why was it bigger? Why not just reuse the inital plans and shield and defend the known weakpoint? Was it just a meta reason, like the BIGGER DS will be scarier for the audience?
no one has bothered writing anything for it
he doesn't remember the many bothans who died for it

frankly i'm not sure why they went bigger. yeah plans were modified but as i mentioned before, since they had the know-how on building one, increasing size was just a matter of simple multiplication, and there's always people thirsty for work so i doubt they had any real trouble hiring labor, they just did it in a smarter fashion by not using slave labor like they did on the ds1. if i had to come up with a lore reason i'd say the laser would be why, since it's significantly more powerful than the ds1 laser, that may have required larger housing.
its over
Yeah this the only thing that would make sense as a "sequel" of sorts. Like obviously all kinds of important things were going on in the background that made the OT story work.
Like USSR under Stalin
Like Iraq under Saddam durring war with Iran
give more characters that have no importance and amount to nothing more screen time!
no thanks, i suffered through this first arc bad enough that i'm considering skipping the rest of season 2.
Tarkin was always slated to take command of the Death Star. Krennic was just the guy in charge of building the damned thing. Think of it as Oppenheimer versus Truman. He built it, so he figured that he deserved a major say in how it would be used.
Krennic wasn't even Oppenheimer, more like the military officer in charge of Los Alamos expecting to be given full control over the nuke.
krennic is a warrant officer at best
Yes. Krennic being done dirty was part of the book, Cataclysm too. Its part of their hitjob on the Empire. That its so cutthroat its notnreally an emotionless meritocracy. A big part of it is just sabatoging other officers to get ahead.
Nah, it's fine. The tone, dialogue style and filmmaking style are what's radically different from mainline Star Wars. When it comes to themes and edge (violence, sexuality), Clone Wars and the movies had already done everything Andor did - and more. Even though it was presented in a more old-fashioned style and the dialogue wasn't as flowery and eloquent as Andor's. Honestly, Andor was pretty tame, all things considered. I am glad that it can safely and entirely replace Rebels, though. That show was complete and total fucking garbage. Now that was actually braindead, pants on head retarded, ugly, vomit inducing kiddie garbage, that is extremely out of line with Lucas' Star Wars.
the thing that i thought would be more contentious but i guess wasn't picked up by the type of people looking for something was: The show doesnt outright condemn drug use. Luthen finds Bix's drugs, which she uses for comfort to get to sleep, something i found analogous to marijuana use but Luthen doesn't outright shout her down for it and when pressed even lets her continue (although its a long term problem he hopes Andor will deal with)
every ones re-watching rogue one and releasing its just slop and member berries compared to Andor, and not as good as they remember.
I remembered that it wasn't too good and confirmed it when rewatching, I think I'll just jump straight to ANH from Andor next time I rewatch. Cassian dying offscreen is more kino.
