Why doesn't it understand the 'tone' of Star Wars
Why doesn't it understand the 'tone' of Star Wars
I don't care, at least its trying something different
realistically the only way to get into the same frame of mind to write a tone-match sequel to the original star wars is to do a whole bunch of jenkem (not a bad thing!), before writing it
Better than the Prequels the only bad thing is Mon Mothma Lesbian Cousin
What if Starslop...but rape???
Why would she have a moustache? You're only supposed to inhale the magically delicious fumes. Do you even jenkem?
pretty close to ANH honestly
The showrunner doesn't care for Star Wars.
its part of the "adultification" of a series meant for kids. Star Wars was always meant for like 6-15 year old boys as it main target audience, but others on the peripherals and "the young at heart" loved it too. But now it has to be serious, edgy ect.
I think Batman Begins started this trend. I've never seen andor, but Im guessing everything is visually drab and grey and characters are constantly coated in sut and dirt and grim ect.
Don't care because it's the Star Wars fiction I've ever watched.
doesn't follow the new star wars formula
peak unfiltered kino
wow such a fresh new take! and you haven't even seen it? damn, what an intelligent and insightful post, especially coming from an unbiased neutral source! i wish more people on this website were like you
I've never seen andor, but Im guessing everything is visually drab and grey and characters are constantly coated in sut and dirt and grim ect.
Not really. It's more like a spy film set during ww2 about the French resistance. It's not overly dark or gritty.
What if we make Star Wars, but remove any hint at space opera and artistic value and care for the details, and make the messages as on the nose as possible. Also rape so redditors and Anon Babble midwits could boast about it being mature.
Andor is the most slowburn astroturfed series i ever seen. The amplitude between praise and its low quality is the biggest i ever seen.
Boring bland sterile piece of shit.
It's tonally extremely close to Star Wars, the movie from 1977. You may be confused and think it needs to match the tone of your faggot assnozzle childrens' cartoons
I've never seen andor
Then why offer your opinion of it? Nobody cares.
This.
It feels like a attempt to copy a type of genre film from an era, just like George would have tried to.
If it succeeds or fails is a different topic. As if it the ideas it presents is even coherent.
Star Wars is a fable and a from the book hero´s journey one at that, that´s it´s identity, that´s how it´s built. From the opening credits reading "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away" to it´s archetypes and classic narrative structure in 3 acts all elements work towards that idea. It´s a tale as old as time backed by thousands of years of story telling theory, that´s what makes it timeless and iconic.
Comparatively Disney Wars has no heroes, just broken people on a hopeless universe that tries reflects our own contemporary reality, which is rather common place these days on account to unskilled writers somewhat believing they are hot shit that are above using the classic tools. Don´t get me wrong, it can be done but only absolute masters of the craft can make it work.
So yeah, Disney either doesn´t understand or willingly disregard the elements that give SW it´s identity thus they are not making Star Wars. It´s just that simple.
Legacy IPs are not the place to try different stuff. You do that with original IPs like Rebel moon. I bet one could edit Rebel moon and Andor together and it would take people a fair amount of time to realize it´s the ensemble of different sources. That´s how generic both of those are.
episode 8 was kino
OT>ST>PT
It's tonally extremely close to Star Wars, the movie from 1977.
No, it isn't. lol wtf why would anyone ever say this
AT = Andor season 1, Andor Season 2, Rogue One.
OT>AT>PT>ST
OAPS
I was playing jedi fallen order. And I was thinking why can't they do this for the live action. Andor is fine. But Gilroy clearly doesn't give a shit about star wars.
astroturfed
nah bro episode 9-10 are the best episodes of television ever. Reddit said so.
Shut up faggot
I've never seen andor, but
Then fuck off.
makes me want to watch it, is it like rogue one or more like the other slop
like Rogue One but even better
Empire vs Rebels again
different
I'll always say that Star Wars works better in videogame form than movies or shows.
The fact that it doesn't have a Skyrim-like open world RPG is criminal.
its more like doctor who than star wars
Yeah these games needed more character customization stuff. Not a fan of playing as the ginger from Shameless.
I liked the one in Survivor, mostly because you can make him look like a war veteran and not a kid like in FO.
I'll always say that Star Wars works better in videogame form than movies or shows.
webM unrelated?
What tone?
No, it's great, it makes the Force feel as powerful as it should be.
Plus via open worlds and RPGs you can dedicate some bits to the more obscure and esoteric corners of the Star Wars lore.
Maybe you are just a marvel consuming retard
No, it's great,
It's Dark Souls clone with Kenobi-tier lightsabers (requires several strikes to empty enemy's health bar).
The first one was, in the second they realized they shouldn't be limited by the Souls Formula and made the Force way more powerful, to the point where a fully upgraded Survivor Cal can fight with just the Force.
Plus there's a realism mode called "Purity" where every strike and blaster shot is lethal.
and made the Force way more powerful,
Yeah Sequel/TFU-tier.
The military/spaceship stuff was always meant to be filler background for the actual seismic battles between Jedi and Sith with lightsabers. Making a show only about the military stuff isn’t Star Wars.
actual seismic battles between Jedi and Sith with lightsabers
Obi-Wan vs Vader in ANH
Luke vs Vader in ESB
seismic
”Use the Force, Luke”
So yes even ANH was about his Jedi powers saving the day, not his piloting ability
The Force in the sequels is super weak.
Star Wars was always meant for like 6-15 year old boys as it main target audience
Sure, but the original movie came out 48 years ago. Hell, even the prequels are over 20 years old at this point. The teens who became Star Wars fans when the movies came out are between their 30s and 60s at this point.
While it makes sense to keep the main movies aimed at a teen audience to continue bringing in new generations of viewers, there's plenty of room for shows like Andor that are aimed at people who still love the Star Wars setting but aren't in that young demographic anymore. Arguably, the whole point of making streaming series is to allow the writers to tell stories that wouldn't necessarily have the broad appeal necessary to justify a full theatrical release.
not his piloting ability
But his piloting abilities were needed to reach the moment where he can use Force (aka lucky shot), not force push, not throwing lightsaber, but pulling the trigger to launch missiles/torpedos of his X-Wing
Sorry, but Star Wars have only actually climatic lightsabers battles Qui-Gon vs Maul, Anakin vs Obi-Wan, Luke vs Vader on Death Star 2.0
The Force in the sequels is super weak.
Grabbing ships with Force, stands only next to Starkiller bullshit with ISD
They should retcon everything and continue the story with Andor. I bet it would be much better than the shitty movies.
That's not much, the EU had way stronger stuff that should make it into games like Force Oneness or Golden Flash.
Because it was a standalone story that Hollywood slapped the Star Wars label on to market it better.
Mention that season 2 is rushed on Anon Babble
Shills seethe and say you're nitpicking
Ask normiefag friends that watched it what they thought
"Yeah I liked it but it felt rushed especially towards the end and it felt like Mon Mothma's arc just randomly stopped 3 episodes before the end"
Wait a month and recency bias will wear off
People will all agree in a years time that it shouldn't have been called/centered around Andor (it's only that way because it's a Kathleen Kennedy OC)
Should have been a dedicated live action rebels show where Andor occasionally showed up with the digital deaging they only used in the last fucking episode (which was jarring as fuck when he looked old the entire season before then) and lasted over 5 seasons
Fucking retarded that they shackled themselves to that promise they made where "it'd lead directly into Rogue One" and blew off the chance to actually make a cool rebels centered show.
Was pretty much the only time I've seen normalfag Starshit friends think the rebels are cool and weren't just interested in Jedi, Imperials or Bounty Hunter aspects of the setting
EU had way stronger stuff
Only as ancient/lost lore of, usually, Sith, not mundane abilities. Even Yoda in ROS had to kill one clone after another unlike:Press X to win:
Nice double spacing Dave
And that's why the videogames are better.
The original TCW show also had stuff like that, like Yoda causing separatist ships to crash with each other
damn, we got a good first season, let's rush the plot of a bunch of different with several time skips, let's kill all our interesting character in an off way, and let's tie in our ending to a shitty second rate movie no one cares
Why they did it?
And that's why the videogames are better.
Good video games, not discounted Souls with Zayne Carrick Trailer park edition as protagonist.
The original TCW show
Okay lol.
NO! WHY CHARACTERS ARE DYING?! WHERE IS MY CAMEOS FROM REBELS?! WHERE IS LIGHTSABERS?!
Syril Karn and deedra were amazing characters, way better than a lot of star wars, and they were simply discarded like dogs.
A lot of screen time in this second season was wasted with useless shit like the marriage dance.
The Ghorman uprising was a disappointment and a repetition of what we saw in the first season with ferrix.
No one gives a single shit about Vel, the rebellion, andor, rogue one.
Really sad that andor potential was wasted with this shit.
ESL opinions are worthless, begone.
Good video games
Survivor is good, hope the third one does the same thing, of making the maxed out character from the previous game the base.
Okay lol.
It's the good one.
Survivor is good,
It's the good one.
Okay tastelet,
There's room for deuterocanon in Star Wars. Always has been.
Andor isn't really Star Wars but most of the old EU wasn't either and I'd argue the prequels are a pretty big fumble of 'archetype in space' as well.
I think "tone" is the hardest thing for people to understand when it comes to media.
My only big issue with it is the slow pacing/slow burn isn't great for star wars.
They are, they need to focus more on the Force from here on out, make it so you can defeat anyone without even igniting the lightsaber
Yes Syril got dropped too soon. Also there was no reaction from Deedra when Syril went off, she should have found out and reacted to what was his fate.
We didn't even get to see his relationship with the french rebel girl. This was just hinted at.
Really bizarre imo, as if Gilroy was tired of making andor/tired of star wars.
There was all this cool buildup to gohrman but we barely saw anything from them, just a public square.
They are, they need to focus more on the Force from here on out,
They cannot, because Souls magic always was bad. Besides, Force is already braindead button.
Yes Syril got dropped too soon.
His character's arc ended
Also there was no reaction from Deedra when Syril went off,
Yeah except the whole emotional breakdown scene
Yeah except the whole emotional breakdown scene
Because they had ended things, the show ends like Deedra didn't even know what happen to Syril, if she knew he died she would have double break down. It's just odd to not include that.
Yeah I forgot about that too.
They cannot, because Souls magic always was bad
That's literally what they did with Survivor, endgame Cal is overpowered and can smash entire rooms of stormtroopers into the ground.
All I'm saying is they need to double down on that, make the Force powers cause more damage, have things like Force Maelstrom etc.
They stopped giving a fuck about the Souls formula with Survivor.
Force is already braindead button.
Have you even played it?
His character's arc ended
Which arc?
Does he feel bad about the empire?
Does meeting constantly ghorman rebels made he change his mind about the empire?
Does he have an affair with another woman?
Or does he still believe in the empire and is the contradiction of the rebellion being formented by the empire that makes him flip?
We will never get this.
And this guy was a better character/more interesting than ahsoka, glup shitto, lesbian acolyte or whatever brain dead thing Disney is trying to churn out. Yet they killed and that is it. Even andor itself is uninteresting as a character, yet another thief, smuggler, etc.
They stopped giving a fuck about the Souls formula with Survivor.
And turned into PS3 exclusive.
Have you even played it?
I did
Survivor is great but it's hampered by having some of the worst fucking optimization and PC port I've ever encountered.
The middle act and high republic stuff is a bit weak but it makes up for it with the characters, customization, main hub world and 3rd act
It's genuinely the first bit of Star Wars media in the last 15 years where at the end I went "Wow I can't wait to see where this goes next" because either Cal is going to die, turn evil (or both) or get fridged so he can appear in some of the post ROTJ sequel shit
The game is also part of why I will never fall for the "YOU SHOULD JUST NEVER DO STAR WARS STUFF WITH JEDI OR FORCE SHIT IN IT EVER AGAIN STAR WARS IS BEST WITHOUT IT" you can make good shit with it if you aren't a fucking moron and balance it out/make it interesting and don't just Filoni it by making it about the same 4 fucking characters over and over.
This, so much effort into his character discarded too soon. Sybil and Deedra made the show for me.
And turned into PS3 exclusive.
The fuck does that even mean?
I did
Then what are you going on about Souls and the Force being just one button?
Which arc?
Meeting his arch-nemesis, Cassian Andor.
Does he feel bad about the empire?
Yep, this is why he leaves Dedra.
Does meeting constantly ghorman rebels made he change his mind about the empire?
Does he have an affair with another woman?
Nope.
We will never get this.
We got all of this.
The fuck does that even mean?
Zoomer filter meme.
Then what are you going on about Souls and the Force being just one button?
Because whenever FO/Survivor doesn't copy Souls they go straight for Press X to Win gameplay, just like on your webms
Install it on an SSD and a mod called May the Performance be with you. I played it entirely on a Steam Deck with it.
If he feels bad about the empire then why he cares enough to get into a fist fight with andor? He would consider people andor justified in their actions.
Because whenever FO/Survivor doesn't copy Souls they go straight for Press X to Win gameplay
What?
Those webms feature an endgame Cal which is OP, and those moves are all specific combos that require proper timing to pull off.
Have you actually played any of these games?
Dedra's doomed arc is perfect from a character perspective, and acting too.
What made it perfect? Low key tragic since she was an orphan
If he feels bad about the empire then why he cares enough to get into a fist fight with andor?
why guy with OCD obsessed with someone
Geee I wonder.
timing
Yeah very complex gameplay.
Have you actually played any of these games?
Yes I did.
So you only heard of FO a bit.
FO and Survivor play way differently, in FO the Force is completely useless, is very slow paced and the lightsaber does little damage so you need to master parries in order to play properly. Survivor is way faster, enemies have lower health and the game encourages you to be as agressive as you can.
Yes I did.
I don't think so, Fallen Order at most.
Doesn't matter, the point is Star Wars is way better as videogames than movies and specially the shows.
What, there wasnf enough child slaughter?
Survivor is way faster, enemies have lower health and the game encourages you to be as agressive as you can.
That's what I've menta by "PS3 exclusive gameplay"
Star Wars is way better as videogames than movies and specially the shows.
Only in case of good games. But this applies to all IPs and their licensed products.
That's what I've menta by "PS3 exclusive gameplay"
By that logic Jedi Academy is a "PS3 game" too.
Guys, I want to sex Deedra's scowling face
Now that's a projecting.
Jedi Academy is straight anti-thesis to Respawn games.
fast paced
low enemy health
game quite literally has no defensive tools beyond Force pushes, you either attack or die
That's literally the reasons you accused it of being a PS3 game, even though it's obvious you haven't played it.
Yes cunt it is.
>fast paced
Unlike Respawn games.
>game quite literally has no defensive tools beyond Force pushes, you either attack or die
LOOOOL LMAO
That's literally the reasons you accused it of being a PS3 game,
False. I've called it PS3 exclusive gameplay, because it's nothing but timings and activating ultimate ability, which instantly kills everyone.
Unlike Respawn games.
Now it's slow when you said it being faster paced is one of the reasons its a "PS3 game"?
LOOOOL LMAO
Unless you are talking about the utterly useless Force power that makes you green, that is.
nothing but timings and activating ultimate ability
No, it's timing plus the right combos and attacks depending on the game.
And you don't unlock Force stasis until the second to last mission, you'd know if you played it.
Wait a minute, this way of arguing is how Anon Babble does it.
I'm not falling for more of this, good luck discussing these boring shows and movies.
*depending on the enemy
Grand Master Fallen Order and Survivor are legit harder for me than any of the souls games I've played because the parry/dodge window is so harsh and you have to really level up before you can get some health packs to heal or force/saber combos to counter some of the enemies/mobs effectively
Now it's slow when you said it being faster paced is one of the reasons its a "PS3 game"?
ALlmost like pacing is not the only problem
Unless you are talking about the utterly useless Force power that makes you green, that is.
So you never played higher than Padawan difficulty and never tried multiplayer. Explains a lot actually.
No, it's timing plus the right combos and attacks depending on the game.
So timing, timing, timing
Realizing his buffoonish obsession with law and order directly leads to atrocity when utilized by people smarter to him
Realizing his equally buffoonish obsession with Andor was what enabled this to happen in the first place
If you pay attention you can tell he has an interest in fashion as well (he modified his uniform in season 1) and seemed to be warming up to the Ghormans. His idiotic obsession (which, ostensibly isn't really 'bad', he was ultimately motivated by wanting to find what he had reason to believe was an unjustified murder of his collegues) with law and order got abused by the ISB to help him facilitate their genocidal plans.
Criticize the arc if you want but it's so obvious that you have to be retarded or willfully dishonest to not see it.
His "buffonic obsession" is only bad in the stupid fantasy world of star wars.
He is an upright and just person in a world where a guy who kills innocent people- like andor killed mothmas driver- is a resistance hero.
The same thing for deedra, she was punished for finding and caring about axis, and we are supposed to rationalise this as le empire is le evil, stupid and impressive!!1
Why andor realism isn't applied to the rebellion itself? Before the explosion of alderaan there were zero reasons to dislike the empire for 99% of the galaxy.
Luthen and kleya were just glamourized straddlers.
At this point what is the tone of Star Wars? Even discounting everything else by Disney - Just the OT? The Prequels? The EU (which itself was varied)? I can respect people that are just OT purists but, many of the people that want more Star Wars can never give a substantive answer of what they actually want new. There is this mentality that everything Star Wars has to be aimed at them / personally like, which is linked to there nebulous conception of what Star Wars is. Star Wars should be able to create things that are geared towards a mass general audience, things that are very much aimed at kids, things that are very much aimed at an adult audience, be able to do different genres etc - the EU was varied in that regard. I can get people not being interested in watching Andor or finding they do not like it, but (even understanding the hate for Disney) it is baffling to me how rent free it ends up for some people.
for 99% of the galaxy
LMAO. The propaganda beaming straight from Coruscant to the outer planets got to you it seems.
here's your (you)
tonally
Do you mean thematically? It's got the whole humanity vs technology thing going on with the robot-like imperials and sterile aesthetics but Star Wars is much more lighthearted and adventurous.
Star Wars was always meant for like 6-15 year old boys
true dat.
