The problem with Comedian is that he is a utterly coward. Only beats women, gets beaten by any guy with a little training, works for The Man, run away from responsability, cries like a bitch when he discovers Ozzy plain and so on. Agreed. Ozymandias is the only figure among the former Watchmen that overcame nihilism and is willing enough to assert that Man can have a goal and is worth preserving. Maybe that sounds gay but I think Watchmen is explicitly about the collapse of normative values indicated by the transition between the two generations of Watchmen, and is a study on how the various characters cope with that. Particularly if you look at the Comedian, what's so appalling to him about Ozy's plan, is not just that its horribly brutal but it's worse than anything he ever could've done himself, and it also might actually work which reflects on the Comedian as nothing more than a weak bully and sadist who wore his costume as a giant cope for that fact. Manhattan is still right that Man plans and God laughs, but either way Ozymandias is the only one even willing to try, and his actions do change Dr. Manhattan aswell, convincing him to create life himself.

This always drove me nuts. Rorsharch's diary only vaguely connects Veidt to his "Mask Killer" theory, which means nothing since the general public hated the super heroes anyway. They especially hate Rorsharch. His diary won't change a goddamn thing

Correct. We can sympathize with Rorsharch's basic ethos but the fact of the matter is he's too mentally ill to do anything but wander around beating up nameless street criminals, sometimes over nothing, just because they insulted him. If Dan hadn't airlifted him out of the riot, best case scenario is he escapes and he's got a much harder time staying incognito now that the police know his identity. Worst case, a CO shoots him. Meanwhile, the other antihero finds out about Veidt's plan and not only doesn't do anything, he doesn't even have the nerve to just inform his superiors to investigate Veidt's island. Two completely ineffective "heroes" who ultimately let their tough guy facades crumble under pressure while the most narcissistic character of them all knows he's never getting credit for winning the Cold War
Do you real think Moore meant it to be "ruining" Oz's plan? I always viewed it more as a there might be just a small chance that it would all come crashing down.
Or if I should interpret it as someone like Moore may have. That's it's ironic that Rorschach's uncovering won't work because he only trusted some small "alt-right" newspaper instead of sending it to a real one with actual influence.

It's in his fucking name "Ozymandias", referring to the poem. His efforts ultimately will be wasted because his "empire of peace" will have only been temporary and killing all those millions of people will have been for nothing.
It's built into the text. The journal is just plot device that's ultimately meant to signal this to the reader.

Yes his actions only bought a bit of time even if Rorschach's journal isn't discovered the Soviet government and US will disagree on something in the future.
