The show is too soft and afraid of grit. It's true in the appearances and aesthetics (pristine clothing, perfect hair and makeup, bright colors and overlit sets) but it also extends to the characters. In the game, Ellie is angry at Dina being pregnant because it gets in the way of her revenge mission. In the show, the reveal triggers a spontaneous sex scene and the pair romantically waxxing lyrical about how they'll make such great parents. Where is the dirt and darkness in Ellie bubbling to the surface? Where is the constant brooding and rage? Ellie and Dina act like they're on a girls trip to Coachella, not on a suicide mission. It's all too sunshine and rainbows, almost like the show is afraid to portray a gay relationship with any conflict or negativity, everything must be perfect.

I rarely, if ever actually drop a show I'm actively watching, but I honestly did this week with TLOU. I didn't even watch the 4th episode and don't plan on continuing to watch this show. I'm a rare person on Anon Babble that will actually defend TLOU2. I liked the game. The game is so, so much better. It's night and day. The tone is far darker, a thick blanket of bleakness and misery with one goal in sight. Moments of levity and respite are rare and have a bittersweetness to them.
Ellie reacts to the pregnancy not with "oh awesome I'm gonna be a dad lol, let's have sex" but with anger. She's appalled at the setback it represents and straight-up calls her a burden. Dina reacts with the most gut-wrenching look of distress and betrayal ever animated and then the player is left to wander the empty theatre as Ellie, in silence except for the rain. We go up to the roof alone, which involves going outside for a moment and up a fire escape, and as we soak in the miserable moisture of Seattle the atmosphere of uncertainty and guilt is palpable.

The game intentionally does not go very far into detail about the Seraphites' beliefs beyond hinting at the profit's backstory and it appears that this show will go deeper into that and their conflicts with the WLF.

That said, the game is still good. The story is pretty good too, even the ending. I liked the characters and their characterization. I liked the plot in general. Then the game turns the tables on you, the player, and forces you to play Abby, and you fucking hate it. You want to see her killed, you want to see her destroyed, and yes she looks stupid and annoying, but somehow, the game actually pulls it off and hour after hour of playing Abby you begin to actually have fun killing the cultists and feel some sort of investment in this character despite everything. The best segment in the game in the hospital takes place as Abby and is honestly scary as hell.
Then you get back to playing Ellie and it's conflicted because you're now kind of attached to both of these characters and while you still kind of want to see Ellie kill Abby it becomes more muddy, and the game just keeps going after that, it's great.

They genuinely improved a lot of things from the first game which is much more simplistic in replays too. The stealth is much better and has more depth, as does the gameplay and movement in general. It's tense as hell on Grounded sneaking around in the grass and hiding from enemies searching for you.

All of this is to say the show is a completely inferior product and a waste of time if you actually played both games, the first season included.

I think more than anything, the leaks about TLOU2 before the game came out really killed so many people's views on the game and made them automatically hate it before it was even out. I choose to go into the game with an open mind despite knowing the leaks and found it really enjoyable, one of the best looking games I've ever played, tons of attention to detail.

Like when people heard a sequel was coming what did they have in mind? What would be the conflict because there's no way they were gonna go back on ellie's death being the only possiblity of a cure.

I would take people opining on the game more seriously if I knew they actually played and completed the game like I did, but every time I get in an argument over TLOU2 with someone it's clear they didn't actually play it and are basing all their opinions on the leaks.

I say this because I genuinely don't see how you can blindly hate the game if you actually played it, especially if you even remotely enjoyed the first game when TLOU2 is a direct improvement on so many things from the first game.
