Who is the target audience here

PTA hasn’t made a good movie in 15 years

Licorice Pizza was just awful.
I suppose I should know better than to watch a 2020 movie about 1970 when I can just watch a movie from 1970.

It's over. PTA is dead (RIP)

man this pissed me off

Imagine if this was a snowbunny with a black baby. Hollywood doesn't have the balls to make original movies which connects with real America.

Me. I want to see this.

me
imagine her pissing herself while firing that gun.

Master was 2012.

People who are diehard PTA stans like me

Me. I've been rewatching every PTA movie in anticipation

PTAheads and Pynchonchads.

Breaking Away 1979! PTA is a fraud

$140 million budget for a PTA film

Whoever greenlit this budget is retarded

I dont get it.
elaborate.

radioactive homosexuals is their target, the ones who go to theatres and blow each other in restroom gloryholes

They're right, Right Wing Racists are the real threat to america and the FBI needs to raid their homes and execute them.

Thank you hollywood.

No one. Another meandering flop from PTA, who hasn't put together a completely decent film since 1997.

I prefer to stick to Paul Ws Anderson

People with pregnant negro fetish

Film students

le pregnant woman is le tough badass

yawn

Gen-X.
WB, same retards who gave BJH the same budget for Mickey 17.
Hey now, Punch-Drunk Love and Inherent Vice were megakino

Sad

Has PTA ever made a movie that's made over 300 million?

He's never made a movie that's made over $100 million. There Will Be Blood is his highest grossing film at $76.2 million, although I guess if you want to consider inflation that'd be the equivalent of around $120 million today.

I'm glad that I already ate breakekfast before having that image in my head

I'm so tired of blacks
I'm so tired of gays
I'm so tired of mexicans
I'm so tired of Ukrainians
I'm so tired of Jews
I'm so tired of Arabs

Just fuck off and leave me alone

They were both a complete mess. The cinematic equivalent of a dropped plate of spaghetti. It's been nearly 30 years since Boogie Nights. He will never, ever live up to the hype. It's beyond over.

Whoever greenlit this budget is retarded

The current co-CEO of WB, Mike De Luca, was a "groomsman" at PTA's ceremonial "wedding" to Maya Rudolph over 20 years ago.

She said it herself; she feels like Tony Montana.

It's a comedy

This. It’s for a niche audience and won’t be a big hit but who cares. It will be better than 99% of the corporate slop they crank out.

the same mike de luca who wrote in the mouth of madness?

film shot entirely on 35mm film

it still looks identical to digital Netflix slop with a filter

wtf are cinematographers smoking these days

It doesn't matter if you shoot on film or not if you still do all the shitty angles, lighting, color theory, and techniques that every other movie's done for the past 20 years.
I mean, fuck. We've had several kinos released very recently on low budgets that have all had either very strong traditional camerawork (Brutalist) or do genuinely fresh things with it (Warfare and The Surfer for example).

F is for Family was very good for what it was

Brutalist looks great, but writing is a piece of dogshit. Explaining some parts of the plot in the last 10 minutes a lazy work

Who is the target audience here

PTA's hollywood friends and wife who he thinks he's pleasing by taking a passion project of his (a pynchon adaptation of Vineland) and making it into what he thinks is palatable to the modern scene in LA he's living in

Corbet does the same trick in VoxLux and Childhood of a Leader

turns out she sold her soul to the devil

turns out he's literally hitler

turns out it's an holocaust barrack

bravo Brady

The first half of The Brutalist by itself is one of the best films of all time; but the second half is such a baffling shitshow it makes the movie almost impossible to seriously analyze or critique as a whole. I'm still not sure if it completely ruins the movie or was perfect for it.

To be frank, I'm just amazed something like it got made recently; and in the U.S as opposed to Russia, Germany, Japan, or France no less. Making a movie that's equal parts The Wind Rises+Ginsberg+Ayn Rand is such a ballsy and sui generis mix of influences that it deserves recognition for that alone. They really just don't make anything like it anymore, and we probably won't get anything like it for a long time.
