I like the book and the DeNiro movie. The Hammer classic version is great but I like the growing maturing child aspect of the story. The "Bride", him wanting a mate to not being alone is part of that story.
I wouldn't call it weird, maybe not the version you like best or at all but they're old or even the original story elements.

From using actual lighting to bring him alive to reanimating The Bride to making the monster mute or limited speech in most adaptions. Even Del Torro borrowing from Bride of Frankenstein. Maggie’s The Bride was originally going to be Netflix-Universal but saw that it sucked and ditched it for Del Torro.
