I remember thinking Tilly was ugly and fat in the first season of Discovery
good god she looks like a super model in season 1 compared to how she looked by the end
Imagine if the 10 day hiatus got rid of the In Trek News!!! shill
Fuck off STD fag
Doubtful, 20 USD a month is a king's ransom in Bangalore
I went through season 1 of TNG with a friend after years of not watching it and it was really good. I was surprised because I've heard writers of the show shit on it. I'm on season 2 now and it's also really good so I don't know what people are thinking when they shit on early TNG.
RLM told people they were bad.
In all seriousness, it's because the first two seasons feel "off" compared to the rest of the show. There's some corny plots, cheesy 80s music, stiff characters, clunky dialogue.
I've heard that but it doesn't actually track with reality.
because I've heard writers of the show shit on it
It's mostly fans, producers, basically everyone.
Most of the S1 writers complained about Roddenberry's lawyer stifling them or Maurice Hurley being a bitch in S2.
There's a great documentary about the early years of TNG here
youtube.com
Please ignore the RLM obsessed schizo or he'll start ranting about Star Wars
I mean some of that is there, especially in season 1; Data will act almost like Lore, Riker will make an ill timed joke, Picard will be an asshole, Wesley will be a cliche wunderkind, etc. Episodes like Symbiosis seem on the nose with their message. Season 2 is a lot more put together, and obviously the third season soft reboot improves on a lot of things.
I only think the first few episodes are bad. It does get better, within S1.
I wish that was yellow shirt kirk rather than movie kirk.
It's underrated but also stylistically very different from the rest of TNG so many fans find it jarring. Think of it as the in-between of TOS and later TNG.
There's always background drama. Don't take writers too seriously. They always complain about being stifled. Sometimes it's good stifling because writers often go off the rails. There's bitching about stifling in basically every Trek production, most of it was good stifling.
Think of it as the in-between of TOS
There isn't a single TNG season 1 episode that is anywhere as good as a decent TOS episode like The Galileo Seven
Not even close, really.
The level of writing quality is vastly lower in TNG S1 -- a lot of the old TOS hacks had lost their touch as happens a lot with writers.
When they had TOS veteran composer Fred Steiner come back to do the music for TNG's Code of Honor and... it just sounded like 60s TV, even though this was 20 years removed.
RLM told people they were bad.
Not this shit again
Fuck Berman for firing Ron Jones
still can't believe he did that shit
youtube.com
idk things got weird around season 5
Dennis McCarthy and Jay Chattaway were told they had to tone down their music too. Which stays that way for the rest of TNG and most of DS9 and Voyager.
Then for Enterprise they could do whatever they wanted.
I doubt it was so strict on Voyager. A lot of that incidental music is downright gorgeous, if more subtle than early TNG.
APOLOGIZE
Has there ever been a worse case of an actor or actress just letting themselves go like that and not getting fired? Shit was fucking Marlon Brando tier.
it's fucking insane
she went from looking like a dorky midwestern girl to a school bus driver
that's why I said *most* of DS9 and VOY, they had a bit more leeway and it wasn't as "sonic wallpaper" as late TNG was mandated
You're an idiot. I mean just absolutely a dumbass. Why would my statement have anything to do with your perceived quality? That makes ZERO sense. Obviously its referring to stylistic traits, that's the only perspective that fits with that statement. It's implicit. You fucking retard.
ahhhh, I missed you Anon Babble
to this day no one is sure why they wanted the music in later TNG to be so bland; Rick Berman said something about it "covering up the actors" but it doesn't sound like a real answer.
Compare the music in The Best of Both Worlds (Borg season 3 cliffhanger) to Descent (Borg season 6 cliffhanger) the difference is appalling
aim better next time
I've always hated that movie and that screen in particular
It seriously looks like someone smashed a toy Enterprise into a model train set
Speaking of Mary, our Till has done well since DISCO ended. Besides her role on the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, she's on the Netflix series The Residence, which is the #1 Nielsen Streaming Original.
Kudos.
No one cares, you're still fat and ugly.
Good morning from Bengal saar!
nta but i love early tng's background music. feels 80s yet also a lot like tos. it changes when the lighting, uniforms, riker growing the beard etc
Except for the fact that you defended the writing in the same post, you ignorant fucking dumb fucking retarded fucking faggot ass retarded fucking idiot!
Excellent post!
I can't believe they gave the TNG show composer the reigns to do the music for Generations
it was the most generic ambling texture music that had no melodies or progression
the Residence
bleh
Mary still looks Tillicious and is getting steady work.
The lighting, costumes and background music add greatly to early TNG's unforgettable atmosphere. When I say that modern streamslop lacks the sauce, this is what I'm referring to.
Just don't respond to the nu-trek shill
Remember, if someone uses any acronym but STD, they're the fucking enemy.
still looks Tillicious
Apparently In Trek Shilling has practiced his bait in the 11 days we've been gone. Kudos, that phrase filled me with bile, I tip my hat.
Really? I thought Generations had a good score.
youtube.com
the writing definitely got stronger, and the uniforms look better but i prefer the lighting and music of early tng. theres a bunch of eps with those solid color backgrounds to show the planet they're on is different, so its a solid red or purple, just like tos and it looks so great. that eventually goes away
Not him but nothing about it really stands out to me. Compare it to First Contact's score and there's just nothing there.
I really think TMP is the only Trek movie with a great score
the bits in the Nexus, both Picard's Christmas and Kirk's mountain retreat were the only memorable bits in that score and even then they had no continuity with the rest of the music in the movie and had no real ear worm to it
it straight up feels like tones of a TV score if the composer was given infinite time and money which is basically what it is
Goldsmith was a master of the now-apparently lost art of actually reusing melodies and motifs throughout a movie to create cohesion
I can't fucking stand anything Hans Zimmer has done after The Dark Knight purely because his scores have that background texture feel
I still wish they'd have gotten Howard Shore to do Dune, the only living composer who's a master at both fantasy and horror
treg
remember when they hired some chad actor with a jawline made of granite to play adult Wesley lmao
They really thought he was going to sprout in those last 3 years before adulthood
time... mr crusher
is it really that... time, again?
what are some /trek/ episodes that will make me feel like this?
As far as the movies go, Wrath of Khan takes it for me
The opening theme? Enterprise leaving space dock? Doesn't get much better than that
year of hell
PUNISHED TUVOK
hasn't coomed for seven years
forever stuck as second officer
went blind after a torpedo blew up in his face
mindraped into being a wagie (katra STOLEN)
gets vulcan dementia
gets beaten up and exploded by every alien species
mind melds with literal schizos and goes crazy
gets telepathic aids
maquis sleeper agent
blood vessels exploded
constantly seething internally
his fanfic gets taken over by tom paris
constantly dunked on by the whole crew
neelix cums all over his room with a klingon
neelix
what did he do to deserve all this
He needs an O'Brien style montage
why did they have to do that to obrien?
It always makes me chuckle seeing Miles being a glorified doorman in early TNG. Poor guy has no idea the suffering he's in for. And that collage could go on for way more than nine panels.
is left to die by picard
Funny you mention that, since Hans Zimmer did exactly that in Interstellar and even though the plot was kind of dumb I still remember it solely because of the track beats.
being married to this yellow demon certainly was a HUGE mistake. he was being punished by the great bird of the galaxy for his sin of miscegenation
Kek
PROPAGANDA
I miss my grumpy space cat wife.
She is not real.
>hasn't coomed for seven years
That's like going one day without as a human.
She looks ready to play Dolores Umbridge in a Harry Potter reboot.
I can still miss her.
Happy Logician
I miss Lower Decks.
It wasn't the best Trek show ever, but it was comfy.
I liked the characters, I liked the ship, I mostly liked the adventures they went on.
No episode ever made me rage, or upset. Even when it was dumb I could laugh at it.
Even Mariner, who pissed me off initially, grew on me eventually.
I looked forward to a new episode, and hearing the theme music come on always put me in a good mood.
Too much of Anon Babble wrote it of as "Rick and Morty but Star Trek" when that really wasn't the case at all. The plots they had were all genuine Trek plots, just humorous takes on them.
Just figured I'd check on 4ch one last time, because nobody irl is ever going to get a casual 'gul dukat did nothing wrong' and here we are.
i was so fucking lonely
I never liked that meme, because Dukat himself admitted that he did things wrong.
LOWBros will have their favorite Trek series on HD Blurays forever.
Lower Decks doesn't have any of the cynicism that Rick & Morty has.
le meta self aware cartoon!! haha star trek is sooo wacky roflbeans *holds up spork*
ugh, how do people tolerate this filth
Best of Both Worlds had special "featured music", which some episodes had. But it wasn't the norm.
what's self aware about it?
Don't respond to Nu-Trek baitposters.
Do not acknowledge Nu-Trek baitposters.
KILL Nu-Trek baitposters.
How (((they))) ruined the beauty of Star Trek.
Looking at this miniature, I can see the caspia quite clearly, standing in as the trees. It's a type of dried flower that they dye green.
Except for the fact that you defended the writing in the same post
Where. Come on. Try it.
