(...)
After years of gripes from average moviegoers and Hollywood insiders alike about the seemingly nonstop barrage of sequels, spin offs and adaptations of comic books and toys, the film industry placed more bets on original ideas.

The results have been ugly.

Nearly every movie released by a major studio in the past year based on an original script or a little-known book has been a box-office disappointment. Before this weekend’s flops were Warner Bros. Discovery’s “Mickey 17” and “The Alto Knights,” Paramount’s “Novocaine,” Apple’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” Amazon’s “Red One,” and the independently financed “Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1” and “Megalopolis.”

Getting people into theaters more frequently is a priority for a movie industry still recovering from the pandemic. Box-office revenue in the first three months of this year in the U.S. and Canada was the lowest it has been, excluding the pandemic, since 1996.

(...)
At the CinemaCon industry convention in early April, theater owners said they welcome more original films, but only if they are backed by robust advertising campaigns. Building buzz for a new film in a media environment fractured between YouTube, TikTok, streaming and sports is tough, particularly when it is an unknown title.

“We’re opening films that have almost zero awareness,” said Bill Barstow, president of Main Street Theatres, a small Nebraska-based chain.

Many consumers are content to wait until an original motion picture is available to rent online a few weeks after its theatrical release or to stream on a service like Netflix in a few months.

Too bussy watching AI porn.

Current theater viewing is a choice between an empty room that smells like piss or a packed showing filled with black identifying TikTok youth that want to skeet on you when the TikTok scene happens. The guy who wants to enjoy cinema film kino would rather just pirate the movie and enjoy it in his own house, away from the blacks they've given the keys of every city to. Bring back whites only theaters and you'll see a boost.

AI is cranking out original movies. Audiences aren’t showing up.

I can spend fucking $50+ to go see a movie I MAY like in a theater or vastly less(read: nothing) to see one I know I like at home.

I'll just watch a camrip at home

Yeah, man. A retarded unicorn movie with millennial humor and an ugly latina is the same as Raiders of the Lost Ark with Harrison Ford. Fuck off you clickbait faggot

Hollywood is cranking out original movies

name three.

That wasn't the only flop

It's because disney and the mcu sucks now. The missing billions line up perfectly with their lack of blockbuster family slop but its time has passed.

i havnt heard of any tho.

Every other film mentioned in another post also seemed like slop of some variety and I never even saw promotional material for half of them.

disney and the mcu

those are franchises... and not what the article is talm about.

After years of gripes from average moviegoers and Hollywood insiders alike about the seemingly nonstop barrage of sequels, spin offs and adaptations of comic books and toys, the film industry placed more bets on original ideas.

"Original movies". Hah! A movie doesn't have to be a sequel to anything, to be unoriginal, utterly forgettable, boring, garbage.

take the years where the MCU is a world-wide phenomenon

include years of literal global pandemic

compare to current day

wow guys, surely we can deduce a trend here. looks like audience just HATE new IPs!

this is fucking retarded.

I grew up decades ago. Hollywood didn't.
They are still making movies and TV shows for children (teens).

Have they tried making good movies?

Building buzz for a new film in a media environment fractured between YouTube, TikTok, streaming and sports is tough, particularly when it is an unknown title.

“We’re opening films that have almost zero awareness,” said Bill Barstow, president of Main Street Theatres, a small Nebraska-based chain.

Marketing non franchises simply no longer seems feasible

yeah those movies may as well just be sequels given how uninspired they are.
sometimes you can get a movie like Companion that is a fresh enough take on an existing idea to work but its not surprising when it doesn't get zoomers to go the cinema given that there have been sexbot movies since the 70s.

i want slop
i yearn for something like independence day

Every single movie they've named there are objectively dogshit and were marketed as if the studio wanted everyone to know just how objectively dogshit they are. Like they're fucking embarrassed by the state of the modern day creative set they've empowered to fucked an institution to death. Stop making Netflix cahntent and pretending they're fucking films, no one is going to go see Red One in a Cineplex, not even the retards that might have twenty years ago to get the kids to shut the fuck up for an afternoon.

MCUtards are not able to read or think.
Ironic

f.jpg - 342x147, 8.81K

sequel of independence day gets released

no one goes see it because actually "like independence day" is boring even to people who claim that's what they want

While "original" is a necessary condition for a movie to be worth watching, it's not a sufficient one.

based noticer

I've always enjoyed Independence Day but I'm glad I didn't go to the theaters for the sequel. Watched it recently and it's just boring garbage.

""""original"""" movies

There was an interview on NPR I heard as I was driving for this movie that perfectly sums up the exact problem. The director was saying the reason he went with unicorns is that he wanted to do a creature horror movie and reading about the ghoulish folklore of unicorns made him realize that he could do it ironically with this movie.

And isn't that just the problem? Hollywood says look at all these interesting movie but there isn't an ounce of authenticity. This Unicorn creature horror could only be made because it's so ironic and self aware.

spent too many years churning out shit that i assume its all shit now. even if they made a good movie it would be buried under 100 other shit movies and im too jaded to give anything a shot

the "ironic" trailer style has worked before, and its not like any of those movies were trying to make a serious artistic statement, so its pretty much the only market strategy available to them.

not even including the two recent Soderburgh/Koepp collabs, neither of was either original or successful enough

The modern sequel (remake) isn't "like" the original, it's the original film with new actors and Indian cgi. Studios should stop rereleasing shit and blaming the consumer for seeing through their chicanery.

What Spaderkino is this?

Well you see, when you make a non-sequel/remake, you also have to market it. It needs to be an event.

Con-Air was an event.
Gladiator was an event.
True Lies was an event.
Jurassic Park was an event, even though there had never been another movie in the series. It began a whole franchise.

Did these people forget how to generate hype? Or was it just easier in old media times when people didn't have so many distractions and now they just can't break through?

yeah because what you really mean when you say "like Independence Day" is "gives me the same feelings as Independence Day".
and the one way to NOT achieve that effect is to just COPY Independence Day.

unfortunately normies who respond to marketing surveys usually express themselves in the same terms and Hollywood keeps taking them literally, with obvious results.

Post-modernity is eating every culture or cultural product alive. Nothing will be spared till collapse.

over.jpg - 225x225, 13.73K

Pretty sure it's from Boston Legal.

the word "like" doesn't mean anything you can use as a guide for making something good. all of the movies in is "like" other movies, and they're not even direct copies. the trouble is that they all seem like ass for other reasons.

Or was it just easier in old media times

A combination of both? We are just in cultural recycling/irony mode AND you can't get the attention of the audience.

Both also might add to the other

inter.jpg - 225x225, 7.36K

Did they forget that movies also have to be good? Anora was dogshit and it won best picture.

theater owners said they welcome more original films, but only if they are backed by robust advertising campaigns. Building buzz for a new film in a media environment fractured between YouTube, TikTok, streaming and sports is tough, particularly when it is an unknown title.

Many consumers are content to wait until an original motion picture is available to rent online a few weeks after its theatrical release or to stream on a service like Netflix in a few months.

These are both legitimate issues, but they're separate issues. Studios don't have faith in original films like they do for proven IPs so they don't give them the necessary pr campaign that they need. A self-defeating prophecy.
And as home cinema viewing has become more comfy and of a higher quality, audiences need a lot of motivation to want to travel to pay 15 bucks to sit in a smelly sweatbox with strangers where they can't pause the film if they need to pee and where food costs more than a restaurant for cheap sweets.

The cinema model is flawed and has run out its time. It's only good for blockbusters and film festivals at this point. Wide cinema releases for a mid budget thriller is just stupid and a waste of money.

ironic horror comedy films can work. Tremors is ironic. Dead/Alive is ironic. Army of Darkness is ironic.
he just didn't do it very well.

I watched it for Jenna and had fun.

I went to see Mickey 17 because it actually looked interesting and the reviews were positive and it sucked ass

If any of them were worth a damn, I would have heard by word of mouth.

Boston Legal bro. Many seasons. Lots of episodes. William Shatner costarring. It's excellent.

I don't disagree with that at all. It's not the fact that his movie is ironic, it's that the only way he could make the movie he wanted to make because it's ironic. There's no place for authentic movies anymore.

you still talk to people?? and about films?

If you paid literally any attention to cinema then you'd know that this is nothing new. It's a problem created by hollywood sure, but if you talk to real people, they don't watch original films unless netflix recommended it to them and it stars someone famous.
It should be obvious by the fact that the majority of people who consider themselves "cinephiles" haven't even heard of the majority of oscars-nominees each year.

inb4 that's because they're trash

And yet everyone's heard of Ryan Reynold's latest slop. And even disney's worst blockbuster flops still make hand over fist more money at the box office than Ari Aster's latest slowburn original a24 psychological horror

They were also trying their best with relatively low budget. Nowadays they want to be "le campy" with triple A budget and expect blockbuster numbers in theaters (instead of being a cult classic that gets revenue over the years, investors hate that!).

note that the starting point for a movie marketing campaign in the US is $20 million. Anora only got like $18 million spent on it but was actually good, and yet its still made less than $60 million worldwide (but made a profit). even the Disney Snow White remake (despite losing money) made 3x that.
studio behavior makes sense. it's audience apathy and lack of any kind of regular supply of good original material reinforcing each other.

Independence Day 2 flopped because it didn't have Will Smith and had (deservedly) terrible reviews

No it isn't kek
It's fun, but it's quite stupid

The results have been ugly.

Much like the casts

yeah marketing number just don't add up anymore.
You can't force a comeback.

dsdgasg.jpg - 827x947, 80.17K

There is a real issue when it comes to the price point of going to movie theaters.

Marketing non franchises simply no longer seems feasible

Part of the issue is, is that all these "original" but that we know actually to be wholly unoriginal, are made by committees who want to get another new franchise going. All these shitty movies, stuck in the SJW and DEI brainwashing of yesteryear by the way, are all written and designed to beget a slew of sequels. So indeed they are trying to market franchises. They have zero meaning beyond "Let's get this set up for a sequel!". Golly gee, somehow... the new attempted franchises just don't catch on. WEIRD weird! It's almost as if everyone can tell they're full of shit.

The Age of Slop we are far into now
There's no stop for the slop.

I think you're misinterpreting what he said. he's explaining how he pitched the idea to studios.
unicorns being scary horror monsters IS better treated as ironic. but you need to do it correctly. the trailer for the Unicorn film was one of the worst I've ever seen because he did it as some kind of weird ensemble comedy, it's not even clear if the unicorn is meant to be actually scary or not. horror comedy has to work as both genres at the same time.

youtu.be/UHZQEtG8xYo?feature=shared

ah yes, Will Smith, that reliably bankable star who had only appeared in blockbusters at the time.

James Spader is bald now

Shatner isn't

You vill watch the copypaste!

there are people that listen to NPR

scary thought

they're actually making Dune 3?
oh well at least it will not be outperformed by Lynch's version for the first time.

What? Are you trying to imply that the state of cinemas was the same when Independence Day 2 released as when the first film released?
Or are you saying that Smith's recent films have all been flops?
Because both are irrelevant. Bad Boys 3 and 4 tells you all you need to know. If you make a sequel to a 20 year old film, you're relying on nostalgia for marketing. To make a sequel without the original actor destroys that nostalgia. It's literally that simple.
If it had had good reviews (or was actually good), more people would've given it a chance. But without that, it only had nostalgia as a marketing factor.

you could put Will Smith in the trailer for ID2 going "welcome to erf" and smoking a cigar and people might very well groan and roll their eyes. Hancock and the movie where he is with Jaden on an alien planet both bombed. we'll never know how slophappy the audience for a Will Smith ID movie would have been because that IS what you're proposing -- not trying to make a good film, just to copy the original more exactly.

It works when it's something people actually want to watch
Also horror is literally the only bastion left for original ideas in Hollywood since people will watch it regardless of franchise or actors, AND the budgets are still kept low unlike everything else which means you don't need massive profits

art salt.webm - 852x480, 2.93M

actually trying to one-up me for not paying MORE attention to shitty francise releases years in advance

what a self-own lol

It was over the moment they did day and date streaming releases during covid. At best now, theaters are for blockbuster slop and huge franchises, risky new ideas are for home streaming. At worst everything just bombs

Horror now is the sloppiest of slop though. It's either demonslop or some variety of slashershop.

All they have to do is stop casting ugly niggers and trannies in marxist power fantasy fan fiction and the box office horror will end.

we made le original concepts like you asked!

Okay, fine. How many of them are good?
How many of them feature simple things like men being masculine, women being feminine, and everyone not being ugly and depressing to look at?
How many of them have good cinematography and aren't 80% CGI made in an Indian sweatshop?
Is there a single comedy that is actually funny?

You still have to actually appeal to people's tastes, and people have pretty definitively rejected slop. I'm sorry.

And streaming doesn't make anyone any money unless they start doing ads.

torcher porn is le creative

inceldom really is part of the cultural downfall

They are doing ads and streaming still doesn't make any money because it takes them a billion years and a billion dollars to churn out slop.

And gore does sell considering horror has been mostly bloodless supernatural shit for the past decade
Friendly reminder Terrifier 3 was the most profitable movie of 2024 without any sort of hollywood backing

Younger generations barely watch movies anymore and it's going to continue getting worse. Ipad babies don't have the attention span to watch a video over 5 minutes let alone a movie. The entertainment zeitgeist is clearly changing, the 100 year run of Hollywood is coming to an end. Actors will go back to being regarded as low rent prostitutes

What's appealing about Independence Day is it was made in America, during the 90's. It's the whole air of the thing that makes it appealing. Not the technicalities like "UFO invade earth".
People like the actors from the 90's. The like the way films looked on old cameras, and with just the right amount of digital trickery. They like that particular style of script writing, And they simply like the 90's. It was a fun decade to be in, and people enjoy spending some time in a remnant of it.
You can't just make a modern movie, call it [thing]2, do no work to actually evoke the tone of the products of the time, and have it work. You don't get it.

gore does sell

maybe it's because they put out "original" horseshit

”fresh ideas”

Uhhh here’s a le spunky brown girl with a septum piercing and a unicorn but it’s a MEAN unicorn!

Millennial writing at work in Hollywood. t. Milennial

Megalopolis is based, but it also was never ever going to be successful.

wow, a cropped out headline for rage bait.

Here is a better question for you retards, what movies would you like to see be made?

What if a unicorn but it’s evil or something

church-going

as I said. Freaks

its over anon, nobody wants to see your indie-slop

Kikes have run out of white ideas to steal and white puppets to bribe

Had never heard of this movie until now, just watched the trailer and it was basically every cringe thing about millennial writing all wrapped up into one package. Every character acts like their perfectly envisioned lefty stereotype. Cringe bestiality jokes, every single bit of humor oozing irony because they have to pretend they are above the subject material and can't actually commit to anything.
I don't hate the idea of a unicorn horror movie but you would have to pay me at least five hundred dollars to watch this one.

It made money cause it was cheap.

It made 45x its budget without any sort of hollywood marketing or backing.
And was one of the highest horror releases of 2024, including much higher than others with hollywood backing like Imaginary, Night Swim, Tarot, also higher than most horror released in 2025 so far.

But thats not a number that can keep a culture or industry alive

Sure, it will absolutely never make 1b+, and that was never the point of Horror.
But at least it also will never bankrupt studios or cause constant flops, and will be a constant source of income like Horror is.
Everything else but Horror is currently fucking doomed unless it's a golden eggs scenario like with Barbie or Minecraft, or children's movies since it forces parents to go out.

terrifier 3.jpg - 488x99, 13.04K

That's a pointless question because you can have the best idea in the world and modern Hollywood would do everything in its power to provide the absolute worst version of it.

My point is that the sequel was neither good nor did it appeal to nostalgia.
But considering that the first film was very much a light-hearted blockbuster and not a work of art, I'd confidently say that nostalgia was the more important of the 2 in terms of expecting the sequel to make any money. Ideally, both were really required though.

what do you want to see?

So what? It's slasherslop. There's nothing original about a guy in a clown mask stabbing people. It's boring and tedious.

too true. what a shit time for movies

The fact that you have to ask this showcases that you haven't watched or looked for any original films yourself. You see hollywood slop, assume that's the entire industry and then shitpost on here. Which literally proves the point.

it's ironic to see you do the same thing within your own idea.

I cant give you a good example because hollywood magically keeps me from sharing it! but ho boy do I have a good one!

Tell me where are all the other Terrifier like slashers making bank at the box office in the past decade then
At most you have the corpses of Halloween or Scream which have massive brand recognition

a) That's not ironic.
b) I never said I had or didn't have an idea.
What a bizarre attempt at a strawman.

Nepobabies are using AI to shit out utter crap subversive horrorslop with the same bland "rich whites are... le bad!" message as every other film and no one is showing up.

they are talking shit but your right, horror is literally a money printer genre and you don't have to have a listers or Hollywood backing

im gonna respond to this anon because he actually gave examples instead of being chicken shit

How many of them feature simple things like men being masculine, women being feminine, and everyone not being ugly and depressing to look at?

Did you see Presence? that was a good one, I definitely tried to get the word out on that one. Maybe the men weren't masculine enough though. There was also The Northman, diod you see that one? it didnt get a lot of views and cost a lot, though I guess it's not indie but is that the only kind that count for this example?

How many of them have good cinematography and aren't 80% CGI made in an Indian sweatshop?

I feel like we do see a lot of good cinematography in movie these days, it isnt all cape slop at all. a lot of the A24 movies have very good cinematography at least. Longlegs had great cinematography, it just sucked at everything else.

Is there a single comedy that is actually funny?

this is s tougher one, there really havent been any good comedies in a long time. thats a much larger discussion i think. There is still funny stuff but we might not agree on that because comedy is subjective. I recently saw dogfucker champion a movie called "Nirvana the band the show the movie" and that honestly looks funny so I might check it out.

people have rejected slop

i dont know about that. Netflix is doing real well these days, and thats an app full of slop.

whats the good idea you have that would be ruined by hollywood?

Nothing. Genuinely. Even if there was a good idea it would have shit mutt actors, terrible ugly popfilter cinematography, and unfunny millennial writing so why bother? Just don't make anything and re-release movies from the 1920-1990s in cinemas.

Does the film show the unicorn's penis? Does he make the girl touch it? This greatly affects if I watch this slop or not.

This is really original btw.

Anon Babble btfo again

Thing is Disney movies have almost never been original ideas. The Golden Age of Disney were all fairy tales, fables, and brothers Grimm stories. Same with the Renassaimce in the 90s. The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback, etc were not original stories.

Nobody saw the vehicle for our black eyed goblina! Why don't they give us money anymore?!

There are at least 100,000 movies that have a "watchable" rating. There are enough decent movies out there that even if you have no job and do nothing but watch movies all day you will never run out. I just don't see the point in watching anything new.

Are you dense? I literally just said I made no claim of having or not having an idea. My post was deliberately general because it was not about me.

Yet somehow sequel and reboot/remakes are bigger slop yet people flock to them

well thats a shame because it's only like 1hr 30 min, tells a good story in an interesting way and is an "original" movie.

as for the northman looking all grey and dower, thats true, and a lot of movie look that way these days sadly, but it doesn't negatively effect the film imo. also, Conan looked brown and drab in most of it's runtime.

Warner Bros.

Mickey 17 was the only one of these with any kind of marketing. Not coincidentally, it’s the only one of these that I got suckered into seeing in theaters. Even then, I got screwed over. I expected a sci-fi movie with a tongue-in-cheek examination of cloning and human nature (a more gonzo Moon). Instead I got a shitty “imagine if Trump went to space.”
I didn’t even know Death of a Unicorn was a horror movie. I’d seen it listed as playing, never heard of it, and every synopsis brought up “rich people with a dead unicorn” and made it seem like a movie about classism so I skipped it.
Is it right for Hollywood to abandon advertising so thoroughly? Is it possible for a movie that only cost $50 million to make get an extra $25 million in marketing and go on to make $200 million or is potential gross really that limited by how much it cost? Blowing $300 million on a shit movie certainly doesn’t guarantee it’ll gross a billion, though.

Are we just going to forget that many "classic" movies made a majority of their money from home video tape sales? Streaming killed movies more than anything else. Movies used to be able to count on video sales to make up for low audience counts. Now that is mostly gone. It's never one thing that kills a business, it's always death of a thousand cuts.

I don't like the movies they're making.
My favourite movies are pretty exclusively about rugged as fuck white men, and made somewhere in the mid to late 20th century, when what you saw on camera was either real, or a model.
I have simple tastes, and my tastes are not being catered to.

NPC

It's never one thing

it was streaming

But that is one thing.

I used to go to the movies about 1-2 times a week at one point, but now that it costs anywhere from $15-22 for a single ticket I go once every few months. I only go when its a group of friends or if my wife wants to see something (which is rare) otherwise I can't justify it even if I do have the money, it feels like a waste. Also a lot of these "original" movies are also just slop with a lower budget.

Based prequelchad. The first movie I saw this year was that Looney Tunes movie and the second movie I'll see this year is the Revenge Of The Sith re-release. The Looney Tunes movie technically came out last year and Revenge Of The Sith originally came out 20 fucking years ago. Grim.

It was the biggest thing but again it wasn't the only thing. If there were genuine great movies being made they would be watched.

We've tried cramming DEI down everyone's throats unrelentingly and nothing seems to work. We are totally out of ideas.

It's time for capitalism to end. I'm deadly serious. The childfucker class has run out of any inkling of sentience.

I already know that you're an NPC, so there's no need for you to remind me about that. lol

shit sequels, spin-off and adaptations don't make money

let's make shit original movies!

Shit is shit. Just make a decent movie. It doesn't even have to be good. People are so starved they will flock to any decent movie.

just pretend they haven't been shilling anti-white sentiment which has been disasterous for society

No, I don't think I will.
But I'm just a schizo, what's the harm in me thinking they're my enemies? If I'm a schizo I'm going to think someone is. Why does it bother you that I chose them?

le uno reverse card

oh yeah he’s seething

Civil War

Too bussy

You mean to say one thing, but fuck your mother?

sometimes you can get a movie like Companion that is a fresh enough take on an existing idea to work

you mean promising young woman with robots??? cocksucking retard

That movie was only in theaters for 2 weeks. I didn't get a chance to watch it.

The economy is crumbling and Hollywood doesn't understand why people aren't spending $100+ to take their family to a movie they've never heard of instead of something they know will be entertaining for a couple hours. Idiots.

civil war

not leftist social propaganda

l m f a o

communistic

But he wasn't advocating for stealing from or murdering anyone

Yes. And I can still laugh at you and call you a pretentious fuckwit who thinks that being a contrarian is a replacement for a personality.

Yes, it is supposed to be a gamble that sometimes work and sometimes doesn't.

How is saying I enjoyed a film being contrarian? You sound like a tedious little man that everyone tip toes around.

One of the problems is that you are a giant faggot

This is just part of the larger problem.
Boomers are old retards who fail to understand how anything works and studios, like every large contemporary business, are run by idiotic middle managers whose only task is "increase short term profits" regardless of long term consequences.
Streaming isn't inherently bad. I'd argue the opposite. But hollywood clearly has no idea how to respond/adapt to it.

99% of hollywood's releases are sequels and reboots that suck

1% is "original" products that also suck

maybe they should make good movies again?

original

le depressed wife thinks her house is spooky

woah the table is shaking from the spooky ghosts uh oh is that a glass of orange juice falling holy heckerinos batman I am le spooked

SEX WORK IS REAL WORK

lol, let's all cry for whores

Leftist social propaganda

you do not even know that that means. you probably think if a black person speaks and it isnt to say they love fried chicken it's whatever you just said.

A remake

A sequel

this isnt new for hollywood honestly, Did you know that True Grit has a sequel? why? The made another Grease! Why? Theres an Airplane 2! (admittedly funny tho) they have always done this. They have remade "A Star is Born" 4 fucking times!

An adaptation of another source of media, book/comic/etc...

also not new

Straight to streaming

or straight to DVD, or VHS, or the dollar theater.

anyway, using that criteria how about

Wild Robot

(the socialist marxist femanist propaganda that we should take care of the environment!!! NOOOO!!! ANYTHING BUT THAT!)

Hundreds of Beavers

it's a loony tunes cartoon in live action

Sinners

it has the scary black people in it but other than that i do not know how socialist marxist lennenist femenist it is. I think they are just black.

The Amateur

this just came out. it has a guy in it, hes literally saving his wife.

210144767

The streetshitter NPC is mad because of the fact that I exposed him for the streetshitter NPC he is

LOL

Bet theyll blame it all on Trump and his tariff policy against Chyna with them further blocking all movies from Hollywood.

Hollywood makes movies constantly, it's up to them to actually sell them and make them look good. They don't get a gold star for making an original idea into a movie, that should be a given

Many consumers are content to wait until an original motion picture is available to rent online a few weeks after its theatrical release or to stream on a service like Netflix in a few months.

This is the real issue. They killed their own business model, because for covid all of these retarded companies brought everything over near instantly. The cinema is dead, and what's funny is that the replacement doesn't bring in any money.

How is saying I enjoyed a film being contrarian?

It's like saying you enjoyed Bloodrayne or Madame Web. If you're too obtuse to understand that then I can't help you

210144941
you’re projecting because you’re angry and ICE is gonna deport your ass.

that'd be cool. I feel like they would ruin it.

Hype is now generated by weird skinny zoomers who call themselves your friend then tell you to like and subscribe.
They've convinced themselves that nobody cares about publicity tours, they have data that proves people skip commercials, hell this site is full of people who treat commercials like a chore. Billboards, half of them are digital LED billboards, not lingering patterns imposing themselves.
Simply put, our world is too cynical to make an event out of a major studio release.
Unless of couse it's "Hey it's your friend FergieFilm and I just saw Mickey 17 and it was so cool, Robert Pattinson, my husband you all know that, plays a clone in a sci-fi epic you don't want to miss, don't forget to like and subscribe, love y'all!"

BASEDADO

"White people bad, men bad, conservatives bad, liberals good, nonwhites good, women good, gays good, Jews victims" is no longer original

writers.jpg - 928x1279, 341.5K

Sequels aren't necessarily bad.
ANOTHER Star Wars or Terminator, however, being released like decades after the good ones, is a thing we're all sick of.
I will give Tron 3 a chance, but it kind of looks like slop.

Was a single one of those original movies not a pile of leftist shit?

210144961
You're right that you’re projecting because you’re angry and ICE is gonna deport your ass. Keep seething, lick my anus and kill yourself, you streetshitter NPC. lol

But DEI is against the free market.

This is true. But the general point highlights the constant contradiction. It's a pretty common statement to hear people complain that hollywood doesn't make original films anymore and that's why it's failing. But all objective metrics show that audiences don't put their money where their mouths are and don't support original films.
I'd argue it's hollywood's fault but that audiences still bear responsibility.

Someone's gotta suck those weird dicks, your mom can't get to them all.

210145021
no thanks. unlike your retarded ass, i’m not brown or a faggot. fucking jeet freak.

The movie was apolitical

I'm sure some people did enjoy those films. Remember, enjoyment is not an endorsement of quality.

I just don't watch American stuff much these days.
Too shitty and too gay.
I also don't pay for foreign media because it means putting money in the pockets of shitty, gay American companies.

You know what? Fair enough.
You're right.

210145113
Wrong. Keep seething, lick my anus and kill yourself, you streetshitter NPC. lol

There is no such thing as a free market.

Army of Darkness and Dead/Alive were also flops, so those aren't great examples.

I get where you're coming from though.
There are a lot of people out there that conflate the two.
"I liked the movie therefore it must be good". Or the opposite.

Well, there are freer markets than others. If you specifically try to force something over and over even when there's conclusive proof it doesn't make you any money, then I don't see how "capitalism" is to blame. This is clearly the personal ideology of a few people and economics is just a means to an end.

Zoomer Pretty Woman. Not original at all.

Shut the fuck up, kike. I'm tired of fake ass tranny jewish devil worship.

A proper adaptation of The Descent.
A Shin Godzilla sequel.
A fun entourage flick with heart like Seven Psychopaths.
An alternate timeline Tron: Ares because the one we're getting looks awful.
A high quality Marvel spoof that has its own identity; how Galaxy Quest was to Star Trek.

I just want Hollywood to die.

How is it like Pretty Woman?

Cool it with the anti semetic remarks

Capitalism is flawed and so is communism. Furthermore, both capitalism AND communism have been used by kikes to promote their sinister agendas. And we don't even have REAL capitalism right now, we have CARTELISM. We have so-called 'private companies' that are controlled mostly by kikes and most governments in the world are also controlled by kikes (albeit from the shadows). And these kike-controlled so-called 'private companies' and kike-controlled governments are merely two different sides of the same coin, they're both parts of the same kike network. That's why it annoys me when people say ignorant shit like "Twitter doesn't have to provide its users with freedom of speech, since it's a private company." BULLSHIT! Twitter is just another part of the same kike network.

Great, I'm just explaining to you that a profit-based mentality would never bring you any DEI.

Lovecraft stories but with Basketball-American protagonists. A powerful new take on classic horror.

No Super Hero spoof is ever going to top The Incredibles.

Hancock and the movie where he is with Jaden on an alien planet both bombed.

Hancock made more money than the first Iron Man movie. It was the second highest grossing superhero movie of 2008 after the Dark Knight.

Yes, and I'm explaining to you that the boomers are dead and you're soon to follow.

The first Iron Man movie didn't need to make more money than Hancock, it just needed to build up consumer trust in the MCU and it achieved that swimmingly.

Pure Pwnage was so good man. I miss it. Literally feel sick knowing I'm old and can't go back.

Boomers are still around and this has nothing to do with capitalism, which was your initial point.

The decade and more of propaganda being incorporated into mainstream media has poisoned the well for me. Most times I don't even care to take a look and see if the movie suits my tastes.

What is it like in your brain. You have to know you're an idiot, but you talk about high concept ideas? Why not think about lower concept ideas like i don't know the NHL and NBA playoffs or if they're planting flowers at the park, maybe worry a bit more about the personal lives of your favorite actors and actresses.
Your opinion on economics and political theory leaves a lot to be desired.

hilarious

No more browns or millenial writers

Your opinion on economics and political theory leaves a lot to be desired.

Cry more, kike. lol

They say that
But at the same time any new movie need to meet a quota of DEI or it's not eligible for Oscar's nominations (like it or not it's good free publicity)
Including Mickey 17 which has an interracial couple and a lesbian one

I want to see a big colourful adventure movie, with no jokes, where a man fights pirates, and plunders treasure. You can start there.

I would love to get another Zorro or something similar today. Im so mad the Snake Eyes movie sucked, that should have been a slam dunk.

Bump

Every thing that is no capitalism is communism

yes

when I say original i mean it has to be 100 percent new completely

you nor anyone else watches things like that.

freaks love watching movies. it's all about the money

thats true but they do still make those kinds of movies every now and then, mostly westerns. Kevin Kostner is making that Horizon series right now. i do not know if it is good.

Pedowood needs to understand that customer lost is lost for life and they made the fucking genius decision to target the under 50 crowd with bile. Whoopsie. Looks like they'll have to rely on child trafficking full time.

I can't really think of a type of original IP movie that would get American audiences to go to it in droves rather than doomscrolling twitter, hoarding Chinese goods and shitposting on social media.

anti-white sentiment

colonialism is real
slavery happened
civil rights happened
white people are treated differently from other races in america
im sorry they made movies about real life.

you mean promising young woman with robots?

Holy retard reply batman

if you're cranking out anything that requires a massive project to accomplish the quality is probably not that good

anti capitalism

but thats not communistic sentiment

ok retard

the 19th amendment is never getting repealed Ahkmed

That's the problem, we don't have films anymore that are cultural unifiers that pretty much everyone loves.

The real problem is these mid budget original scripts don't have accompanying popcorn vessels. There I said it.

that's exactly what it fucking is and what it was pitched as you braindamaged zoomer retard

agreed. and the recent news of some of the new sequels to previous things we have heard of (what hollywood likes) do not sound promising at fucking all. (Jared Leto Tron, Hunter Schafer Bladerunner, and another one im forgetting. also fuck you Marvel for pussing out and making RDJ Dr Doom)

I would genuinely watch Waterworld 2, if they made it.
They can have that one for free.

Huh, it's almost like diversity making it impossible for people to feel any sense of unity and similarity was the goal all along

I'm Canadian. We had an underground railroad that helped darkies escape. Don't put that shit on me

lel. that lovecraft country show sucked ass. I feel like there is a way to re-interpret H.P. Lovecrafts fear of mixed races and the like in a less racist way. I would absolutely want the hero in a lovecraft type film to still be an educated white man tho.

Sequels aren't inherently bad, but you can't deny the fact that we're drowning in sequels right now. I want more one-and-done movies, movies that tell their entire story in just one movie and then NEVER get any sequel.

Hollywood Is Still Cranking Out Woke Brown Slop.

Why Aren't Chuds Showing Up?

that's exactly what it fucking is

he didnt watch the movie.

Huh, it's almost like diversity making it impossible for people to feel any sense of unity and similarity was the goal all along

Will you PLEASE stop noticing things?

There's a point to be made that whenever anything has ever been popular, sequels or imitations have followed.
Bride of Frankenstein. Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Terminator 2. The entire James Bond series.
The problem is that sequels are now synonymous with bad movies that kind of retroactively ruin the old movies. No one said they had to do that, and now that they have made it clear they are going to do that regardless, people are asking them to stop making sequels.

Diversity of thought is fine, the problem is diversity of shades of brown skin. Unity in diversity and unity without uniformity.

i agree, they should try making sequels and remakes to bombs and trash instead of good stuff that already exists. Lets have iRobot 2. (that movie actually did well tho but you get what I mean)

No

noticer.png - 852x851, 294.52K

Diversity of thought is fine

this. the power rangers were diverse. the animated Justice League was diverse. People just dont want the Diversity to be because of some very lefty reason.

If an original movie is successful at the box office, Hollywood is going to franchise the fuck out of it. Hollywood will always put money above storytelling integrity, unfortunately.

You're right.

There is no unifying culture anymore:

correct

Rightoidz: believe that the world is flat

Left: no

Rightoidz: I guess we should destroy civilization then...

And that doesn't even have to be bad as a thing, because a lot of series hit their peak at the second, third, or even fourth movie.
What's bad is movies now are shit. It's that simple.

Hollywood is cranking out nonstop girlboss slop in order to antagonize and demoralize men. Naturally, men don't want anything to do with it.

Subsidize my propaganda that says you're a bastard, anon.
I AM OWED EMPLOYMENT!

Have they tried making GOOD movies?

Woah, don't ask the impossible!

I unironically think america should have one of those film subsidies like canada had but to get it your movie has to be pro america. we could use some positive american sentiment prop.

they can't do that and also hire their inexperienced retard friends to write everything.

More countries need to be like china and ban American movies, but unlike china, they should be willing to unban American movies on the condition that America stops pumping out wokeslop.

the american market is large enough to sustain itself without international sales i think. They just need to stop spending so much fucking money on garbage.

I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in theaters. The whole experience is just miserable. Why the fuck would I spend way too much money to go sit in an uncomfortable, dirty theater full of undesirables and watch a woke propaganda piece when I could watch good, classic, white movies in the comfort of my own home on my own terms?

I want proper Sword and Sorcery movies.
Traditional 2D animation not just made for kids or families.
Stop milking these mistake franchises that come off the back of like 1 or 2 good movies from before I was born.
I want characters to take their own struggles seriously.

No I won't pay because Hebrewood won't do any of that anyway.

it is more fun to watch movies in online watch parties with the boyz.

the american market is large enough to sustain itself without international sales i think.

It probably is. Hopefully our future is a deglobalised world.

I AM SILLY!

Yeah, the theater experience is just so shitty nowadays.

I want proper Sword and Sorcery movies.

i do miss them. new Red Sonja could have been a good opportunity for that but i have a feelin it will suck ass. That genre just isnt very popular anymore tho. They used to crank them out because they were all following Conan's lead but once interest fell off so did investors in such things. If I was rich, i think i'd like to try making one tho (and also a classic sci-fi style movie)

traditional 2d animation

did you see the loony toons movie that recently came out, an actually very good movie, sad Zazlov hates animation.

lame reply.
