80's nostalgia has lasted longer than the actual 80's

I've just grown completely numb to this stuff now. I don't even care if they suck.

Well people often stay nostalgic of their youth for longer than 10 years.

Is it going to be Goonies Vs Gremlins? That’d be kino.

GTA: Vice City, a retro nostalgia homage to the 80's, came out only 18 years after the 80's ended. As it is, we should be on late 00's nostalgia but somehow, someway this is still being pushed. Aren't 80's teens and kids near the end of their life now?

nostalgia has lasted longer than the actual

nigga thats just how nostalgia has always worked

Well atleast they stop making ghostbusters movies

Surprised 90s nostalgia never took off, with minecraft it seems we hit 2000s nostalgia

Amazing Digital Circus is kind of y2k nostalgia

Wtf no! Most are just in their 40s at max. Oldest is 45!

Surprised 90s nostalgia never took off

Several 90s movies have remakes announced in the last year. It's coming.

euthanize all gen Xers

we should be on late 00's nostalgia

Yes, because I want to relive the magic of 9/11 causing the American government to shit itself in rage and horror and imposing draconian measures in the Patriot Act that would’ve made George Orwell blush.

Best Decade by a mile of course it has.

As it is, we should be on late 00's nostalgia

based on what? the date vice city came out? every year there are movies set in 50s/60s/70s/80s for many reasons, including that they are distinct periods with distinct aesthetics.

when will medieval nostalgia end?

nostalgia for a time when you were an ignorant kid about the evil machinations of this global Bolshevik dystopia you live in

that would’ve made George Orwell blush.

It actually made Geaorge Bush.

muh dead Iraqis

the 2000's were the last good decade to be alive in. 2007 onward was where it all went to shit but 2002-2006? Heaven on earth.

As it is, we should be on late 00's nostalgia

What do you call bringing back all those old actors from ‘00 movies to the new slate of Marvel movies if not nostalgia? It’s just taking place in a different format from the way it worked in past because you can find and enjoy old music, movies, etc. directly in ways you really couldn’t back in the day.

muh dead American soldiers who died for Israel

boo hoo, goy

corey feldman was in both. could be kino

the built theme parks and shit in the 80s, they need franchises that have longevity

It wasn't supposed to be a documentary

image(1).jpg - 584x800, 300.36K

Nope, Goonies confirmed that Gremlins is fiction within that universe when the cop starts listing off the bullshit stories that Chunk has called them with.

It's only Hollywood that is still stuck in the 80's and 90's as the now useless geriatric propaganda machine it is. People and especially Gen Z are all over 00's nostalgia, buying flipphones, wearing baggy clothes, nu-metal, windows XP, the whole nine yards. in fact, some are already nostalgic for early 2010's.

80s was the last time america wasn’t totally gay
90s were okay but the gay was really starting to gay it up

come at me bro

Culture has been more or less stuck since 2015.
Same music. Same movies. Same politics. It's absurd.

All the stories about creatures that multiply when you pour water on them

"Is that you again, Lawrence?"

VC came out in 2002, so it was only 12 years

after 2000s everything start looking the same
you can instantly tell from a pic if its the 60s 70s 80s etc, but you can not tell if a pic was taken in 2005 or 2015

Even worse. We should be into mid 2010's nostalgia by that trajectory.
I disagree. I can immediately tell if something is from 2005, 2015 or even 2019. You're just stuck mentally into the 90's because you're old and on the way out.
It has not. 2015 is ancient compared to now. Culture has changed massively. in 2015, the funniest thing online was Damn Daniel.

I like the fact that a Soprano's character was watching Gilmore Girls, while in Gilmore Girls they reference the show Sopranos.

he doesn't nostalgia hard from 9/11 footage

it was a beautiful day with lots of happenings and I want to go back

ywn live in 80s america

No matter what path I'll choose, no matter what I'll do or won't do I'll never have it as good.

It's going to be "Gremlins are actually good guys, it's white men who are bad" or nazi gremlins. OG gremlins were practically niggers

Gremlins messing with the nazis in WW2 could be decent I guess

because nostalgic and creatively bankrupt xoomers are now in charge in Hollywood

The problem is 00s nostalgia is less culturally concrete. 80s culture is much more overbearing and “readable.” It lends itself to an easily identifiable aesthetic. Outside of some Y2K trends it’s harder to pin down the 00s in the same ways as the 80s, thus less movies and stories about the period get made.
Zoomers are definitely trying to repurpose some of the 00s fashion though. That shit is definitely back in.

Is Drum n Bass popular again?

Just wait until 90s nostalgia gets going in full swing. Biggest nostalgia wave of all time and then we'll have a period of hardly any nostalgia at all for a fairly long time.

90s nostalgia will be mixed in with 00s nostalgia, and it will also be a complete recontextualization of all late 1900s nostalgia.

There are usually two waves of nostalgia, we got a minor 80s bump in the mid to late 2000s, and then we got the big one in late 2010s to now. We didn't really get a minor 90s nostalgia bump, but the big one will be the biggest nostalgia wave yet.

I'm glad early 2000s nostalgia bait hasn't yet been exploited much yet or infected by Hollyjew

Where did he mention soldiers? The loss was our way of life to this digital panopticon. Fuck off zoomer, you clearly weren't there for it

That's not right. 00's culture is immediately identifiable. Flipphones, baggy clothes, rudimentary versions of current technology, nu-metal, fuzzy long hair with bangs. It's in fact just as much an identifiable culture as much as the 80's. 2010's onwards is when it gets impossible to tell apart.

The Sopranos is a good example. You can see the clear progression from late 90s to early 2000s aesthetics. The way AJ dresses is distinctive to a certain point in time

don't cut yourself on the edges, Abdul

00s was just 70s nostalgia so we're circling back

Christmas season has lasted longer than the actual Christmas

Not really. It's just that retards today are incapable of coming up with anything new that's as memorable.

They just made Y2K in which everyone is non-white and dressed like modern zoomers.

everything has been pretty objectively shit since like 2005

why has nostalgia stalled?

It's a mystery.
We are NEVER doing 2010's nostalgia, I'm sorry. It was bad.

There are 20 year old LOST, House and The Office episodes that look like they can be filmed today. The only difference is characters don’t have smartphones, aren’t obsessed with identity politics, and don’t use internet slang outside the internet. Things like fashion and set design are the exact same.

amerilards are actually defending this vapid love for 80's cosooming

holy shit

Re-writing history to presen the present narratives and demographics as always being here is what "they" do now.

I really hope we don’t return to the X-TREME branding of the 90’s and early 00’s. That shit was so obnoxious. Fucking skateboards and backwards baseball caps everywhere.

It’s because the ‘80s were the beginning of the “modern era” and the end of decades having powerfully distinct societal structures and identities. I know that you can easily come up with fashion, industrial design, etc. from the ‘90s-onwards that separate them from the ‘80s, but my point is that other than the Internet and its evolution, technology and foundational principles of culture and society have not changed in its core forms since then, but evolved. It’s the same reason why even though in 1990, an 18-year-old car would be from 1972 and considered a classic, yet here we are in 2025 and “classic cars” are still cars from ~1972 and not 2007. It’s why design trends are so cyclical now too. As said, the ‘00s was chock full of ‘70s nostalgia (the largest TV show on the planet in the ‘00s having an entire season set in 1977? Hello?) and here we are now stuck in ‘80s stuff. It’s going to keep being cyclical forever and ever because people do not have hope for the future anymore and are clinging to the last time in humanity where progress was fulfillingly tangible.

Hey man, i'm only 45. We're going to have a Xennial president in the next 20 years.

65 is not that old, they'll be around another 15 years ish

Live action Gremlins from the Kremlin?

people romanticize an age before the third world, liberals, and "THEM" depicted our happiness as a problem for not fucking up our lives like they did

Hollywood's response? Remake the 80s, but de-whiten it to make sure whites know their place.

early 10's were good but that's only because every decade's start is just the end of the last one elongated. we're now in the precipice of the 2020's. every decade shows itself in the middle. 2020-2024 we were still in 2010's mode.

Is it nostalgia if they haven’t made anything good since thenrgt2y4

who the fuck is nostalgic for the goonies? it sucked ass

90's nostalgia hasn't taken off because no one has done it well. Every 90's nostalgia movie I've seen feels like a zoomer's revisionist idea of what the decade was like.
A lot of what you list are carry overs from the late 90's. 00's are the beginning of the cultural smudge, the supposed stuck culture. Aside from dated tech accessories and marginal sub-cultures, much of the world of the 00's looks like today.

I was a captive audience for the Goonies in high school. One of my classes had an “Eighties Week” and the teacher forced us to watch it. Which sucks because BTTF was right fucking there! This is what your tax dollars are funding, btw.

i'm so sorry you had to go through that baby girl it's not right and it never was right

Who are these made for? Why can't they just come up with something new?

Why can't they just come up with something new?

This should be a Anon Babble banner desu

But we have new films and they flop

Mickey 17 flopped

Its just that brands succeed and new fails

They did that alot then. Look at this. I fast fowarded through the trailer for this movie all time.
<
Finola Hughes with that terrible hair. Top Gun being the extreme standard (again) to which claim to be as good as. It's Top Gun on skis,It's Top Gun in cars,It's Top Gun on boats etc.

When the time came when Beavis and Butthead dumped on this movie I laughed.

"That chick never got naked."

Mickey 17 was shit

Dis Minecraft broke the string of 80s nostalgia?

00s was just 70s nostalgia

pffft. not really

We'll get some fully ironic takes on it for sure, and then we'll get .

I look forwards to the butthurt that flows from an attempt to make an ironically extreme 90s protagonist look like a goof only for the audience to unironically love them. Could be a standard, generic cool guy or could be a 'The Crow' / 'Neo' type edgelord. 90s still liked the 'secret identity' for superheroes so it could even be both, some goth kid turns out to be Superman, or some generic cool guy turns out to be Spawn or Blade.

We're going to get some more nudity and sex scenes in regular media again too IMO. We're just getting into the artsy phase of that with films like Anora and even Nosferatu, next they'll try it in regular action films or comedies, and then it will move onto a neo-camp phase.

AI making nudes online will kind of hollow out that space (first wave of internet porn led to a boost and then it dropped off hard), and there will be some actual erotica with a budget again. Might still suck but they'll try it.

almost if there are objectively better decades and it is not all just nostalgia like Reddit claims

Yeah, now everything is flaming hot and trans rights. Truly a better time.

as a xoomer i have little 80s nostalgia. im more in the 90s camp

90s still liked the 'secret identity' for superheroes so it could even be both, some goth kid turns out to be Superman, or some generic cool guy turns out to be Spawn or Blade.

i was going to say shut up and take my money but then i remembered that subcultures arent much of a thing anymore

(here)
*then we'll get unironic 'love letters' to it.

Most popular entertainment franchise of 2025 came out in 2011

This is what we mean by cultural stagnation.

the world went to shit once flipphones stopped being the norm. if you don't remember playing the snake game when you were bored, gtfo.

For me it was the bubble popper thing on my PDA

No surprise. Its not about nostalgia, but money.

We could get a kind of resurgence with 90s nostalgia though.

Basically though yeah, we lost 'subcultures' almost entirely since that time, it sucks.

de-whiten

maybe if you live in Europe
America was diverse in the 80s
Most 80s movies have black characters
A lot of hispanics too, mostly as cartel bad guys though

modern phones are too big

Same politics.

Nah it's gotten more radical

the largest TV show on the planet in the ‘00s having an entire season set in 1977

Which one?

Flip phones started the trend of spam calls and texts that continue to this day. I get at least 10 a day. It’s gotten to the point where I leave my phone on silent. If you really need me, shoot a text.

Because those movies are fucking awful.

LOST

Minecraft is making 1 billion dollars

It's the 80's because it is as far back as you can go to a time when there was still functioning social fabric and still have all the familiar technology of the present like computers and rudimentary internet. It's also when most of the block buster franchise got cemented.

It also doesn't help that the advent of streaming meant that Gen Xer's were the last people who could assert nostalgia for the time of their childhood onto the general public due to take-it-or-leave-it programming blocks on couple dozen channels being the extent of consumer choice. Think Family Guy doing "Remember the 80's" every night for a solid decade or more before streaming and smartphones ruined everything.

Fucking 80s, man, best shit ever. Bet your ass, man.

Guns N' Roses fucking rules. Crüe. Def Lep.

Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all. Like there's something wrong with wanting to have a good time.

I'll tell you something. I hated the fucking 90s.

90s fucking sucked.

Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all. Like there's something wrong with wanting to have a good time.

As much as I love grunge, I have to agree. It’s even worse now because all of my peers listen to this quiet, pussy-sounding indie folk bullshit and treat me like I’m weird for wanting to blast ‘80s hair metal and have fun. Fucking faggots.

not listening to both or whatever you want

I have neutral milk hotel on one folder and Parabellum on another; I am content, blissful, happy even.
