Fuck RTD's cancer. Let's discuss some real kino. Give me your favourite arcs, Doctors, companions and Big Finish stories.
/classicwho/ thread
For me, it's The Massacre. Unbelievably kino.
Need to watch it again soon desu
All eight Doctors are kino. Best arc is Caves of Androzani and Sarah Jane was best qt.
A Millennial who has watched all of Nu-Who since it came back to TV would be in the Colin Baker era of Boomer Who if they'd watched that from the first broadcast episode.
Shit, I was born during McCoy's second year. I grew up watching Tom Baker episodes on UK Gold.
Big Finish
I was surprisingly fond of Faith Stealer when I listened to it the other week. I've enjoyed most of McGann's Main Range stuff so far.
20 years into Classic Who
steadily declining ratings
bad mix of nostalgiabait and lame new storylines
a young, passive, wimpy Doctor
a big gay producer slowly realising that nobody likes what he's doing but that he's the only person around who wants to run the show

It's like pottery
shitting on based Fifth Doctor
Negro please.
What a neat little scene from the Brain of Morbius. I sure hope no one decides to look at it and add entirely new context which ruins 50+ years of legacy in the future.
Anon Babble and Anon Babble poster Otaking is currently animating a "big budget 80s anime ova" remake of Death to the Daleks, using sound from the original serial.
Only gonna be 4 mins long, but looks a fuck ton better than the BBC animations.
God, the BBC animations are horrific. I refuse to watch them.
They know that classic who fans are starved, and will gobble up whatever stale crumbs they throw.
The Classic Who animations are a perfect microcosm of everything wrong with how this IP is handled by the Beeb. The stiffness and complete lack of creativity or imagination, which does not lend itself at all to the medium of animation, is an insult to everyone who worked on the show during it's original run.
If they're going to be produced in such a still and lifelike manner, the BBC would be better off doing limited run stageplay recreations and selling the recordings off that way.

a big gay producer slowly realising that nobody likes what he's doing but that he's the only person around who wants to run the show
That stuff was still a couple of years off for ClassicWho, the 20th anniversary stuff was the peak of JNT's success with both the fanboys and general audiences. '85 was when it all started to go wrong
Doctor Who has just recorded its LOWEST ever overnight ratings for an episode!
The Robot Revolution: 2.00m
Previous lowest was "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" with 2.02m.
I still don't buy this line of "Ooh, but us and our clique of industry insider friends are the only ones willing to run the show!" It reeks of nepotism and narcissism. I'm sure there are plenty of young creatives out there who would kill to work on a show like Who, but they are passed over for some political reason or another.
higher than expected tbqh
ha ha a black doctor who? More like black doctor who dis? Right? Guys?
show's so dead i don't even get a kick from dunking on it anymore
sad
of Death to the Daleks
Literally could have done any other serial than this one.
Is that total or just tv?
Just TV for now
Season 15 returned to BBC One on Saturday 12th April and received an overnight rating of two million viewers, as per TV Zone. The consolidated ratings, which include BBC iPlayer, devices and catch-up, will be released at a later date.
O.o
Kek I honestly thought they were gonna get a slight bump this season. Cancellation is inevitable (and that's a good thing)
Disney will buy the IP in a fire sale if the ratings keep dropping.
kino
my nurse fetish catered except for stereotype outfit
cringe
planet of the incel lmao what
ncuti crying
20 years into Classic Who
steadily declining ratings
ratings were stable for seasons 20-21-22 until the BBC axed the show out of nowhere for political reasons.
NuWho on the other hands has been losing viewers stadily since S8, except fpr the very temporary bump of S11.
Doctors
The first four Doctors all have good stuff going for them in their portrayal. Hartnell and Troughton compete for the first and second place of the most important actors to play the Doctor. Third appeals to me the most, although part of me does think the show (although gaining something) lost something by combining the Doctor role and the Ian/Steven/Ben/Jaime role into one. With Fourth Doctor I would say there are at least 3 distinct versions of the character - him in his early tenure under Hinchliffe, then the middle tenure under Williams (and even this I feel like you could breakup into to make 4 total, then his late tenure JNT) - with his early tenure being the best. I do not really care for the Fifth Doctor, although I do not hate him. I do not necessarily like the Sixth Doctor, but I much prefer Sixth being a massive dickhead over Fifth being a passive-aggressive bitch - the better way to put it is I prefer the Fifth Doctor stories over those of the Sixth Doctor, but I prefer the Sixth Doctor of the Fifth. Seventh, or at least late-Seventh, is fine.
companions
Ian/Barbara/Vicki and both Jaime/Victoria, Jaime/Zoe are great TARDIS teams in how they are constructed - they do not feel overcrowded as they are balanced out in terms of functions and personalities. I also like both Leela and Romana as solo companions - both complement the Doctor well and are just conceptually interesting ideas.
It launches at 8am on the iPlayer. A lot of people are going to skip watching it live and watch it whenever.
I agree about the companions. Ian and Barbara were well thought out, and something was lost when it dwindled down to just Doctor Who + one girl
Anons, this is a thread for Classic Who. You know, the REAL Doctor Who
Leela's great. Louise Jameson is a massively underrated actress IMO. It's this character that could easily turn out like a silly, annoying Planet of the Apes rip-off in the wrong hands, she's running round wearing a leather bikini and awful contact lenses, working opposite an imperial star who hates the fact she's even there -- and she utterly sells it all. Probably the best actor to ever play a companion tbqhwy.
8AM?! What were they thinking?!
3 and 5 are my favourite doctors. I won't elaborate.
For companions I like:
Nyssa
Leela
Turlough
Ace
The type of companion that has actual skills instead of just being an everyman along for the ride, and they actually use them in the stories.
I remember liking Ian and Barbara as well but I haven't watched a First Doctor story in a thousand years.
My DVD collection needs bulking up massively. I'm not aiming to buy all of the Classic arcs, but I want the good to great ones.
Anons, this is a thread for Classic Who
t's your own fault for putting who/ in the thread title
The word classic's up there as well, you blind ninny.
Might as well just buy up what you fancy of the Collection sets m8
Classic

actively hated and sabotaged by the BBC

NuWho

is mostly disposable trash
pirate them. the BBC does not deserve your money anymore. do not contribute to the funding of more Nu-shit.
It was midnight last year. The time it gets uploaded benefits Americans watching on Disney+ rather then Brits.
It should appear on Disney+ after it airs on television in the UK if you ask me. Why should they get it 'first'?
You couldn't make it up.
>Classic
>is mostly kino
Most of classic is a snoozefest.
>NuWho
>actively supported and saved by the BBC
This hasn't been true since 2010.
Trust me, I've been picking them up second hand. I'm not throwing money at that glorified nonce ring.
a young, passive, wimpy, gay Doctor
15 isn’t passive or wimpy at all though. His first real episode ends with him brutally killing a goblin king.
a big gay showrunner slowly realising that nobody likes what he's doing
I hate this boardie revisionism. People were begging RTD to come back since he left in 2009.
The licence fee funds the production of new content. Buying the blu-rays and DVDs funds BBC Worldwide which is unrelated.
Is the Key to Time season kino or shite?
imperial star
What did he mean by this?
>is mostly kino
Classic Who goes to absolute shit after 4 leaves. It has a worse track record than current NuWho.
This hasn't been true since 2010
Retard says this while the current era is a collaboration between RTD’s studio and Disney
Seasons 25 and 26 are good
nonces as far as the eye can see
You might not want to accept it, but he's undeniably the GOAT. Even half-way through a divorce drunk and pissed off Tom is great to watch
Retard says this while the current era is a collaboration between RTD’s studio and Disney
The BBC has literally been sabotaging the show since after 2010. The fact they allowed Piers Wenger to do what he did is proof of that.
It's adequate but the framing device is weak
Davison and McCoy's eras are good.
Kinda, The Visitation, Earthshock, Arc of Infinity, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, The Five Doctors, Resurrection of the Daleks & The Caves of Androzani.
Remembrance of the Daleks, The Happiness Patrol, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Ghost Light & The Curse of Fenric.
I've got time for Colin too, honestly. I personally love Revelation of the Daleks and Trial of a Time Lord.
death to michael grade
it's a "millenial complains that binge watching a series that was never ever meant to be watched this way is boring" episode
Elaborate instead of repeating yourself like a faggot parrot
saying this when literally all of the concepts NuWho is based are stemming from late Classic and JNT via the EU
Kill yourself and suck my knob, faggot. Not interesting in spoonfeeding your newfag ass.
Piers Wenger
literally who?
Typical boardie
Overall mediocre in the sense of being generally of average quality and serviceable. The McGuffin framing device is pointless. I do not get why The Pirate Planet is that loved - besides the explanation people just praising it due to it being written by Douglas Adams. Relatedly, The Power of Kroll is not as awful as a lot of people say it is it - it is not brilliant by any measure, but it is a good enough one watch disposable serial. I really like The Androids of Tara, which I would say is the strongest of the season.
big finish
I'll throw out some modern stories that I've enjoyed recently if anyone wants any recommendations
The Diary of River Song: Friend of the Family
One long four part story featuring River as she is stuck in one house across three different generations of the same family trying to unravel the family secret. It's surprisingly well written and River comes across as a good character rather than an obnoxious pest. It's quite touching in places too.
The War Master: The Master of Callous
Again, one long four part story featuring Derek Jacobi. The Master is almost a background character here and you're following the lives of a struggling colony trying to make a living while the evil corporation is trying to bleed them dry. You feel for these people as they suffer and The Master manipulates them from behind the scenes. It's quite dark and very much inspired by the NAs.
Doctor Who - The Lost Stories: Operation Werewolf
Starring the 2nd Doctor, Jamie and Zoe. A 6 part story which was originally meant to be aired during season 6 but was never made - for the best really, the budget wouldn't have stretched. World War 2 tale in which the Doctor and friends land in Normandy the day before D-Day and have to avoid getting themselves stuck in history, meanwhile the Germans have a new weapon that could change the outcome of the war.
Doctor Who: The Merfolk Murders
5th Doctor story which is like Black Orchid but actually good. Historical in which the TARDIS lands in Scotland and stumbles into a murder mystery. There's no aliens, just a murdered girl. It's quite a gripping tale with red herrings and clues everywhere. If you're up for a murder mystery with the Doctor acting as Sherlock Holmes, this is for you.
caring about BF after they got tainted by NuWho
Really makes you think, eh?
See: en.wikipedia.org
By Season 14, the show was arguably at its peak. With all due respect to the production team, Tom Baker knew a great deal of that was entirely down to his performance/personality (which were basically interchangeable at this point). So after Lis Sladen left, whom he really liked, Tom wanted to throw his weight about and make his Doctor a solo traveller, because then ALL of the audience's focus would be on him instead of "just" most of it. Hinchcliffe and Holmes gave him The Deadly Assassin as a treat, but then right after got Chris Boucher to introduce Leela in the next story. Not only was Baker pissed off that he'd been saddled with a new girl that wasn't Lis, he also objected to Leela's violence, occasional murder, and the outfit as all being inappropriate for a role model hero on a family show. Accordingly, he treated Louise Jameson fairly badly for most of her time on the show and you can see in some of their scenes that he doesn't care about her character at all, at least up until Horror of Fang Rock.
that side cut in the dress
d-does she wear something underneath?
She did a nude scene in something that you should be easily able to find, although from what I remember it is a bit of a Katie McGrath situation.
is based are stemming from late Classic and JNT
and it does it better. What's your point?
gr8 joke m8
Nope, as per BBC guidelines when it comes to the portrayal of cavemen and cavemen-adjacent peoples. Same rules with An Unearthly Child. She also grew out a full bush, as the Tribe of the Sevateem naturally would.
The thinking behind these artistic decisions was it would be suitably authentic on set but then any impropriety would be avoided on broadcast, since they knew the average British TV in the 1970s wasn't high resolution enough to be able to make anything out underneath.
and it does it better
lol. lmao even.
I mean, they did require her to wear brown contacts to make her look more "savage' so...
Eccleston, Tennant, Smith and Capaldi's eras are good too.
Dalek, Father's Day, The Empty Child, The Doctor Dances, Boom Town, Bad Wolf, The Parting of the Ways
School Reunion, The Girl in the fireplace, Impossible Planet, Satan Pit, Army of Ghosts, Doomsday, Runaway Bride, Smith and Jones, Human Nature, Family of Blood, Blink, Utopia, Sounds of Drums, Last of the Time Lords, Partners in Crime, Fires of Pompeii, Slience in the Library, Forest of the Dead, Midnight, Turn Left, Waters of Mars, End of Time part 2.
Eleventh Hour, Time of the Angels, Flesh and Stone, Amy's Choice, Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, Pandorica Opens, Big Bang, Christmas Carol, Impossible Astronaunt, Day of the Moon, Doctor's Wife, Good Man goes to War, Girl Who Waited, God Complex, Town Called Mercy, Angels take Manhattan, Snowmen, Bells of Saint John, Name of the Doctor, Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor
Deep Breath, Listen, Time Heist, Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, Dark Water, Death in Heaven, Last Christmas, Under the Lake/Before the Flood, Face the Raven, Heaven Sent, Hell Bent, Husbands of River Song, Return of Mysterio, The Pilot, Oxygen, Extremis, Pyramid at the End, World Enough and Time, The Doctor Falls and Twice Upon a Time.
The Star Beast and Wild Blue Yonder
No they're not. Get that nuWho shit out of here.
it's an 'anon can't read the thread subject' episode
Fuck RTD's cancer
It is bugging me though: why would a turbo incel keep asking "are you married"? I get that a gay guy wrote this and not a woman, so it may not be "accurate", but still, I am drawing a blank. The wrapping paper thing I'm assuming just means he's stingy.
Brian the Barbarian married and banged Peri in official canon
Holy based.
What happened to Tegan in the end? Did she just run away?
Nyssa a cute
It stopped being fun, innit? She just walked off.
Why was Fifth so obsessed with cricket anyway?
He's a proper English gentleman
Nyssa has an underrated arse.
it only comes up in three episodes.
But I just want to know what people are thinking is the arc of the season. Like we can shit on this shit all we want and talk about it getting canceled, but I still want to know what fucking mystery box is he setting up. I'm genuinely curious where this is going and wondering if anybody has any stuff to share. I'm not going anywhere near Reddit or Gallifrey Base
Anon, you are assuming anons have actually watched the latest episode. At most the majority of anons are just getting the cliff notes version of what is happening with NuNuWho.
only caring about NuWho's the mystery box
in a Classic thread
is it even possible to be more off-topic than this?
It's alright for one unexpected laff though..
nobody wants to discuss Classic Who with a bunch of retarded contrarians that wasn't even a sperm in their father's ballsack when it first aired
What do you mean by that?
There is not really an in-universe explanation, just some random quirk of the Doctor. Maybe you could say some quirk that developed from regeneration going as it did. Or maybe the Doctor is fully having a midlife crisis by Fifth and for whatever reason he has settled on the gentleman sport of cricket. The meta is that Davison likes cricket, and in part it also served as the costume JNT approach to give him such a get up. Really though, there is not that much cricket with the Fifth Doctor despite it being one of those things assigned to him (which may speak about how the personality of the Fifth is rather unsubstantive beyond such superficial things).
Even avoiding the leaks that are going around, I'm just not really interested in another Russel "The world is in danger, the Doctor must figure out how to undo the danger" arc. Russel's done it so much now that seeing episode 1 end with the world already destroyed, after all of humanity got wiped out in the last seasons final, just leaves me yawning
Are you asking what they meant with Katie McGrath? She did a sex scene in some film. Her breasts are generally considered especially unfortunately bad to the point that for a lot of anons it undermines her otherwise attractiveness.
when it first aired
when talking about an anthology show that was explicitly designed to let watchers jump in at any point
how did you manage to get even more off-topic than you already were?
Then why are you here?
Nice to know Tegan was ultimately fine with Adric dying.
JNT's "costume" idea (which is why the Doctor and his companions more or less wear the same clothes all Season 19 long) was stupid. These aren't super heroes.
Well, I, a prodigious masturbator, checked out nudes of both chicks, and yeah, not very good. Katie McGrath is better.
The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot > Day Of The Doctor
Shame we never got a follow-up for the 60th.
Also I always hated what Moffat did to McGann in stead of having him in the 50th, killed him off in a youtube video, what a fucker. John Hurt's character didn't fucking do anything other than stand around being too old to function. mcGann woudl have been far better. No shade on John hurt, but come on now.
great pics- hey I could have sworn Tom was wearing his iconic waistcoat in that serial?

Isn't that down more to the BBC? Look, I would have preferred it to be 8th rather than the War Doctor but, it seems like we were lucky to even get what we did with McGann at the 50th.
DotD was written with Eccleston in mind. Unfortunately he told them to fuck offerino.

John Hurt was an British acting legend and I get why Moffat/the BBC wanted him as a guest star coup for the 50th over, say, McGann or Eccleston, but increasingly I believe that the entire concept of the War Doctor was just a bad idea:
introduced the idea of a "secret incarnation", which directly screwed with the show's most fundamental piece of continuity - the order of the Doctors - and opened the way for the stupidity of the Timeless Child and bigeneration
Hurt's portrayal doesn't live up to the fear/hype of "HE'S THE ONE WHO BROKE THE PROMISE" and he's not a particularly grizzled or dark or edgy Warrior although the fact he's not really that bad is admittedly the entire point of the plot and his character arc
took all attention away from the actual older Doctors
led to Nicholas Briggs roping John Hurt in for forgettable, painfully mediocre Big Finish and making that some of the last work Hurt ever did
fuck offerino
newfag boardie trying too hard to fit in
fuck off judy
introduced the idea of a "secret incarnation"
Yeah exactly, I thought it was a terrible idea, but what was frustrating was that it amounted to very little difference than just having McGann instead. And then later on we get six milllion secret incarnations and all sorts of stupid fucking bullshit.
So yeah every time I think of The War Doctor I get mad
The War Doctor BF stories were partially ruined by the BBC who insisted that Big Finish don't do anything out of character for the Doctor and he still has to be the hero.
So we just get a grumpy Doctor instead of the man the others were ashamed of.
Does nuWho shit turn up in Main Range at any point? I want to avoid that stuff like venereal disease.
I thought it was a terrible idea, but what was frustrating was that it amounted to very little difference than just having McGann instead.
Trips confirm
I know this is bait but it doesn’t make sense. BF turns into slop after awhile so NuWho being involved wouldn’t change anything
Off the top of my head, in the main range you have
Shadow of the Daleks 1&2 - Time War Daleks capture the fifth Doctor
Thin Time - The fifth Doctor encounters the Eleventh Doctor
Madquake - Slitheen
Subterfuge - Winston Churchill (does this count? It's the same actor as in the show)
Justice for McGann! Justice for the Eighth Doctor!
It's not to late to have a Eight spinoff that eclipses the "main" show
Shadow of the Daleks 1&2 - Time War Daleks capture the fifth Doctor
Thin Time - The fifth Doctor encounters the Eleventh Doctor
Madquake - Slitheen
Oh, bollocks.
Why did you ignore my post? BF turns into pure slop so your autistic hatred for NuWho doesn't mean anything
Oh, fuck off, you gay cunt.
>Thin Time - The fifth Doctor encounters the Eleventh Doctor
That's the only good part of that audio story. Why are sperging out
GOOOD MORNING SARS
Why are you in this general, if you don't wanna discuss the show?
I wish there were more Classic Who webms out there for my posting purposes
I'm here to discuss Classic Who. Go make a nuWho circlejerk thread instead of shitting this one up like the big mincing faggot you are.
but you're not discussing Classic Who at all. all of your posts are speging out over NuWho.
I find classic to be boring of the time, you could put a serial on the TV and go do stuff around the house, just listen to it in the background, and you won't be missing much. Is there some kind of "veteran doctor who fan" cred you're supposed to get by pretending it's riveting stuff?
Here you go
Is there some kind of "veteran doctor who fan" cred you're supposed to get
yes, not being an ADHD millenial/zoomer
Take your meds
You wanted to discuss the show. There's your gateway.
It's not to late to have a Eight spinoff that eclipses the "main" show
I feel like McGann is too old at this point for live-action - animation perhaps being the better way to go, but there is a lot of ifs around that as well. And realistically we have missed the ideal window for when such a thing could have happened in the 2010s, and besides why do you reasonably aspect any of the writing to be good?
I found Tegan to be a lot sexier than most other companions. Unfortunately they always insisted in dressing her in terrible costumes that covered her up. It was her sultry turn as the Mara that made me first take notice.
This is the best 'Doctor who?' joke in the show.
210117169
Some fucking nerve you've got there
Clyde Langer
Let's have a look at the collections, lads. I'm a fledgling with this shit, so it's barebones. Got Earthshock and Revelation of the Daleks on the way.
Lynchian.
I've got the opening title thingies for some of the doctors, i'll post em
and besides why do you reasonably aspect any of the writing to be good
Why are you in this general, if you don’t like the writing?
/who/ finally biregenerating into /classicwho/ and /nuwho/
this is the greatest day of this general since the tripfag purge.
Go here
How do you expect a 8th Doctor series made now to have good writing? Are you saying that NuNuWho is of good standard? Give the 8th Doctor writing more in line with either Classic or Nu then maybe it could work, but you would get neither now.
Clyde Langer
The show has been unwatched by anyone for so long, despite still airing, that everyone has already moved on to the ACCEPTANCE stage and now just enjoys the kinos that already exist
It would be if nuwhofags would get the fucking message.
they will soon enough.
It would be good if Ncuti bigenerated into an expensive Disney Who full of spectacle for the plebs and a BBC Who made on a shoestring with more of a character based leaning.
Dang getting inspired to finally finish classic who. Have 1 or 2 series of troughton to go and then it's finally over, after 11 years of sporadically watching
the shoestring BBC Who would still be controlled by RTD and he doesn't need a big budget to produce propaganda slop with hamfisted dialogue.
That wasn't even me but stop it
Dropped who to focus on a few other shows, think it’s time to pick it back up
I have never watched or listened to a single Leela story. Everytime I watch 4’s run I go from Deadly Assassin to Key2Time
Asher back
Karenfag back
Even the general can't help re-using old villains. Truly, Doctor Who is creatively bankrupt
Nothing can compete against black and white bbc action. William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton are amazing leading mans
The plural of man is men.
TY bro and good morning. William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton are amazing leading men
What the fuck, anon
Do you guys think the show has finally once against reached the level of "bad quality tv" as the colin baker and onward years?
McCoy's second and third years were kino and Colin Baker's run is fucking Shakespearean compared to the recent dross.
Planet of the incels!
I would say it is even worse, both in the execution and when you get into the wider-production/meta. Late Classic was actively being undermined by the BBC, it was in a completely different position. The Sixth Doctor era had all the stuff going on behind the scenes, which continued into Seventh. It is not my favourite era, but I can understand what people like about the Seventh Doctor era in his last two seasons. With NuNuWho it has: 1) all this money behind it (Doctor Who in 1989 had next to nothing in terms of budget); 2) the writing is absolutely shit; 3) there is no real audience for it - it has not gained a new audience in some generational handover, it does not appeal to casual audiences he got brought on in Nu, it does not appeal to hardcore fans that (whether having been introduced to it pre or post Nu) like Classic; 4) they are meme words but, if we are to use them earnestly there is stuff in late Classic that you can say earnestly has soul and is kino. NuNuWho does not know what Doctor Who is at its core, it does not seem to know what it wants to be, and it has a clear disdain for what should be both its inbuilt and intended audience.
I know Peri has big Peris and all, but I can not stand her as a character. All she does is act like a battered wife, and she's always so needy and whiny. Her fake American accent is awful to listen to. She really brings the C. Baker era down.
let's see how long classicwho lasts then
Natural History of Fear is absolutely based.
You son of a bitch, leave my wife alone.
I loved it first time round, but I don't know whether it would work nearly as well on repeat listening. Brilliant use of the medium though.
Also, fun fact, Rob Shearman is novelising The Chimes of Midnight and Jubilee later this year: blogtorwho.com
Horror of Fang Rock is a great gothic horror story right up until the Rutans turn up, then it got silly.
I love how, even in nuwho (not sure about the audios though), Sontarans and Rutans are never in the same story. Nice little running gag going on 50 years.
The Rutans are one of those things that the budget and effects of the time could never really do. To some extent they are also just reusing ideas with the Zygons. Still, I am surprised they never brought back the Rutans in the Nu - as by that point they could have had an easier time with the effects, and they pilfered so many other things.
What they should have done is had it in place where they kept alternating between the Sontarans and the Rutans, with each time the Doctor going
You're at last losing that interminable war with the Sontarans.
You're at last losing that interminable war with the Rutans.

You're at last losing that interminable war with the Rutans.
What they should have done is had it in place where they kept alternating between the Sontarans and the Rutans, with each time the Doctor going-
They already do.
He says some variation that in each Sontaran story, and Horror of Fang Rock.
I prefer clownish 7 instead of "omg I'm so smart and edgy. I've outplayed you because I'm le chessmastet"
Yeah, but there is only one Rutan story in the show. I am saying by the time they actually introduced the Rutans they should have then done a Sontaran story, then a Rutan story, then a Sontaran story. All we get is Sontarans in the show. Even if Classic missed that trick, Nu should have done that approach as my wider point is they would have had an easier time doing the Rutans in Nu than the limitations that would have been imposed at the time of Classic.
although it's chibwho this line did get a smile out of me
STENK [transmission]: Peoples of the Universe, the warriors of Sontar offer you hope. To our long-time foes on the battlefield, we make this offer. In the face of an event which may extinguish us all, we offer the three-fingered hand of uneasy alliance. We must join together to survive this threat against us. Except Rutans. Rutans, you remain hideous scum and must be obliterated.
Jean Marsh died, lads.
I like 7 being a devious little cunt, but I do enjoy his silliness too. I just wish that first season was better.
F
The Doctor being a sneaky manlet suits the character
Bit awkward that this happens right after Big Finish announces a new Space Security Service series with those mooks from Dalek Universe. Once again, fuck you, Nicholas Briggs.
RIP, she had a good run
Listened to the Companion Chronicles Sara Kingdom trilogy just last week as well, so this is spooky.
What do Who fans think of Cushing Dr. Who?
I think both are two traits the Doctor can have, but Seven is too extreme with both. Specific incarnations of the Doctor can be clownish (both innately and implied to be playing it up) and all incarnations of the Doctor should have guile - I would also say that at his core the Doctor has an aspect of himself that is a right rat bastard that may manifest in different incarnations more than others. As for the clownish and guile mix, the Second Doctor is the one that embodies that best. He is this cosmic hobo who yes has an innately clownish personality, but part of it is also a a deliberate persona he is using to be disarming that is masking his underlying cunning.
Joanna in The Crusade
Sara Kingdom in The Dalek's Master Plan
Morgaine in Battlefield
damn. RIP
I like Cushing in general and he is fine for the films, but his portrayal is less interesting than Hartnell's and I think it would have been a mistake if he had taken over after Hartnell left since Cushing would have played it too similar to Hartnell.
I don't think of him at all
Don't forget ex-wife of Jon Pertwee
You'd have thought the Sontarans would have wanted the Rutans to get Fluxxed like they did with the Daleks and the Cybermen. I dunno, maybe Sontarans eat and/or rape Rutans.
Inferno is kino
Shame the worldbuilding was utterly fucked by the EU though
WOT IF THE DOCTAH WAS ACTUALLY THE DICTATOR OF BRITUN
Fuck off
secretly murder old actor
announce a replacement series
once the death is announced cash in on the extra publicity
Delightfully devilish, Nicholas
The Sontarans were honestly pretty entertaining in FLOOX, aside from getting easily BTFO by Dan and then all that wank about chocolate.
WOT IF THE DOCTAH WAS ACTUALLY THE DICTATOR OF BRITUN
Clue me in here, lad.
she's better in BF. more snarky and funny.
The EU fucks a lot of stuff.
You know the evil parallel Earth visited in Inferno? Well, the novels establish that it was ruled by an evil version of the Doctor.
What is Tom's best drunk performance?
Has her fake american accent improved at all in the last 40 years?
I saw her on that DW stories supercut thingy they did for the 60th and wow she looks like she's aged very well
Sober or drunk, he's based as fuck
novels
Ah! Fair enough. I never bothered with them.
Tales Of The TARDIS, that's what it was called
Telling Lalla he loved her.
gawd dammm
It's not just that, the Candy Jar books also establish that the version of the Brigadier is actually from a different parallel universe and replaced the real Inferno universe Brigadier who died as a child, for some fucking reason
Fuck the lot of you, Romana II is CUTE
What are some audios with 7 being a 3000 IQ edgy chessmaster?
For me, it's the skimpy big titty amazon variation she tried out before settling on her final form.
You are acting like anons frequently say Romana II is not cute. You may get anons say I over II, but there is not some mass denial that II is cute.
Richard Dawkins got to pork her in her prime.
it's more of a VNA thing
So did Tom, lmao.
I no longer believe in God
Romana II certainly has some of the best costumes for a character.
i gave up watching after the one where they shrunk and got stuck in a kitchen for 5 episodes
Thoughts of Scratchman?
Wasn't that nuWho?
Nice
Glorified fanfic writers ripped off Fringe for the Brigadier's backstory
What in the actual fuck.
I prefer Romana 1 but I still agree that Romana 2 is cute as shit. I don't like the "Well I regenerated I dunno I was bored" part but I also like Romana 2 in contrast with 1, since 1's when she's more official time lord and 2's after she's mellowed out fucking around with the Doctor. Kinda like how Hartnell was a bigger asshole until Barbara busted his balls a few times
That's a Hartnell. I forget the name of it but it's some scientist that makes super pesticide that he realizes would kill all life on Earth so he was going to destroy it but the money man killed him since he wanted to sell it. Barbara gets sick because she can't stop fondling sticky substances and the Doctor and Susan climb up a sink drain. Also Susan is scared shitless repeatedly by dead giant bugs as I remember
That's a Hartnell.
Ah ha! I remember now. It's decent enough. I was grateful it was only three episodes.
companions
I loved Sarah Jane.
Sarah Jane is far better under Third than what she is with Fourth.
I love her with both. She was adorable and I miss her dearly.
Pertwee's companions were simply better than Baker's. Liz Shaw was very underrated.
NuNuWho
This title is retarded. It’s still NuWho. The only reason it’s called “Season 1” is because they don’t have the other 13 series of NuWho
Do I need to watch the whole Black Guardian trilogy or can I jump straight into Enlightenment?
NuNuWho does not know what Doctor Who is at its core, it does not seem to know what it wants to be
You should’ve stopped after the second point, the rest is fucking retarded.
It’s written by RTD, the same man who was present during the wilderness years and revived the show back in 2005.
If there is anyone else that knows DW at its core it’s him and Moffat.
The current writing problems are just typical RTD issues made worse because he’s a lot more open than before . He was never known especially back then for making straight 10/10’s, his era had some stinkers. ffs Tennant’s last 5 episodes except WoM and some parts of EoT are the worst in that era.
You gotta watch the whole thing
Cheers, anon. I only ask because I heard Terminus was a bit shit.
Don’t watch it at all. It’s garbage
Nah, Mawdryn Undead is enjoyable and Enlightenment is outright kino.
Enlightenment was easily one of the best, top 5 dr who kino. That being said, I don't remember what happened besides boats in space. Also don't remember the rest of the trilogy. There's so much fucking doctor who in existence. Guess I need to rewatch all of it again in an endless loop until I can remember what happened in a given story
I may be in the minority but I love Black Orchid from this era. It's one of a minority of stories where the Doctor is almost simply observing events and not involved in any massive universe-changing decisions. In fact the story might have turned out the same even if he wasn't there, that was refreshing.
Anyone got a webm of the woman trying to do a spastic kung fu kick on the creature from Warriors of the Deep?
I thought it was fucking garbage like most of 5’s run.
I don't mind Terminus even though half the plot is Turlough and Tegan crawling through vents to keep them out of the story. It's grungy, has some cool stuff and you get to ogle Nyssa for 3 episodes. Her leaving is pretty emotional too.
go into a general to talk about Classic Who
it’s just retards talking about NuClassic
We need to make a another for thread for Pre-JNT Classic Who
Shut up, nigger.
NuClassic
I refuse to acknowledge this ridiculous made up term
i could see it as being true after the Chibs era. he really destroyed the fucking brand, alienated most of the fanbase. who would want to have to pick up the pieces after that? and you're not allowed to retcon any of if because we have to pretend the Jodie era was great to own the chuds!
Doctor who is so far up it's own ass that it's imploding on itself. Luckily the real classics are immortal tv
Does season 24 have a single good arc? I'm really struggling to remember.
Stop responding to yourself you fucking retarded newfag boardie. You don't know what you're talking about
???????
the actual overarching story is kind of dumb but i love Romana I when she was allowed to be smarter than the Doctor. feels like a proto River until they demoted her to being a typical Doctor Who girl, fainting and being kidnapped left and right.
The War Master: The Master of Callous
i personally didn't care much for this one because it felt like it was more about the mining lesbians than the Master. i feel like if you're going to put his face and name on the box it should be more about him. the other War Master stories i've listened to are excellent though.
i actually thought the whole 'secret incarnation' thing rounded out Smith's character very well. harboring the secret that he's the final incarnation, it really recontextualizes this incarnation appearing younger than all the rest, like he's fighting against the inevitability of his demise. made the scenes of him acting so much older than he appears more poignant, and really contrasts with the First Doctor being so fussy and self-important despite being the youngest incarnation.
i do agree it's a total letdown in the end, BBC refuses to let them depict Hurt's Doctor actually doing anything fucked up so it's just him acting like the Doctor and insisting people stop calling him that because... because he's just not the Doctor, okay?!
Please keep talking about Classic. You retards have the dumbest takes about NuWho, it's like you didn't even watch the show.
Fuck off over to here, you mutant.
"Well I regenerated I dunno I was bored"
This was so dumb but necessary. They didn't count on Mary Tamm getting pregnant. Could have been done way better though. Would have been neat if her regeneration was the unanticipated climax of the key to time arc
The duality of /who/
people always getting mad at The Morbius Doctors while conveniently forgetting the selective interspecies regeneration of Romana that was never retconned away
That second thread was for the one whinging cunt who kept pissing and moaning about nuWho getting shat on.
For me? It's the Howell theme.
You will never be able to enjoy Pyramids of Mars again due Sutekh death being written out and the story being shit on.
Genuinely how can you guys enjoy classic who these days knowing what is happening. It’s good but completely tainted beyond salvation. I just can’t separate old from new
I'm one of the fortunate ones that watched a few 2005 episodes then completely nope'd out of it. I'm completely ignorant of whatever came after the farting shapeshifter things.
Very Based choice in light of recent events.
i don't consider anything after The Doctor Falls canon and i basically retcon most of that last season anyway because it started the trend of the show being insufferably preachy about its progressive politics
It depends what you count as canon, personally I don't go with the retarded 'everything is canon' but, I remember hearing about that one attempt to explain it is that Romana II in Destiny is not actually Romana. It must be this what I am thinking about
Yet another account claimed the transformation itself was facilitated by the TARDIS and took place inside a force field in the ship; the metamorphoses witnessed by the Doctor were not Romana at all, but the TARDIS itself adopting Romana's form and trying to replace her as the Doctor's companion in a fit of jealousy. Realising her mistake after one adventure, the ship helped the real Romana complete her regeneration (sans interim bodies) and freed her. (PROSE: The Lying Old Witch in the Wardrobe [+])
What would you all consider to be the best run of episodes in the classic seasons? From the start of Tom Baker's era, every story just feels like a classic to me for a good long while, maybe so far as up to The Deadly Assassin.
I can separate old from new. Still, it does piss me off when they do shit like Sutekh, or Timeless Child, or say the War Games colourisation trying to say The War Chief is The Master.
There are barely any clunkers from season 7 to 14. The only truly consistent seasons after that are 25 and 26.
S13 and S14 are both solid, and I will tack on Horror of Fang Rock at the start of S15. Depending how much forgiveness / how strict we have to be by serial to serial as opposed to say overall seasons, you can probably go back even earlier and make an argument for S12 and S11 - to make the run go from S11 to the first serial of S15. The serial Revenge of the Cybermen is the weakest of S12 and personally I think both The Ark in Space & Genesis of the Daleks (whilst not bad) are overrated, but I do would not say S12 is a weak season by any measure. Of S11 the only serial I have issue with is Death to the Daleks, it is effectively just Planet of the Daleks rehashed (itself a rehash of Dalek ideas).
That second thread was made by a whinging cunt who kept pissing and moaning because nuWho was being mentioned in his classic hugbox.
Fixed that for you.
Third Doctor era is the most consistent in quality. I do not think it reaches the highest highs, but it is generally solid B or at least C tier stories.
EU is irrelevant and not canon
except when it fixes the canon!
but not when NuWho fixes the canon again, then it's not canon again!
Other than the answers of Third and the first half or so of Fourth, Second - though it is screwed over by missing episodes. Evil of the Daleks - Tomb of the Cybermen - The Abominable Snowmen - The Ice Warriors - The Enemy of the World - The Web of Fear - Fury from the Deep.
This was the first doctor I knew and he was a good one, but I think he's probably inflated a bit by the Roger Moore effect. Connery is objectively at least as good, and the stories became quite silly during the Moore era overlapping with Maxwell Smart.
I am going to offer the third doctor as my fave classic who doctor because he picked up a gun dropped by a space retard monster and shot back at them, and the british military was present and probably still had at least one testicle.
Third. He was piping Jo Grant routinely but she never let it advance to something more serious
Nigga please. When I rewatch the original Star Wars I understand that Princess Leia had never met Ben Kenobi and anything that says otherwise is bollocks. Same with Star Trek. Like as if the William Shatner Kirk shares a universe with Michael Burnham lmao
Only the NAs and EDAs are canon. The show is not canon.
