Earlier in the show Elaine wants to be with Jerry but Jerry is too fickle and they want to fuck.
Later they retconn this into Elaine never liked having sex with Jerry and never thought much of him when originally they never got together because Jerry couldn’t commit.

t. I’m rewatching the show now and I noticed 2 things, 1. Numan doesn’t show up until season 3, 2. the show started off a lot less mean spirited and it was more akin to other sitcoms of the era with a happy ending, and George, Jerry and Elaine and Kramer are all very caring and genuine toward one another and they are kind of the good guys being fucked over by outside circumstances, but the tone starts to shift toward making the main cast the bad guys. First instance of this was the Pez dispenser episode. And maybe this tonal shift had something to do with retconning Jerry and Elaine’s relationship? I don’t know but rewatching I was like damn they did actually like each other and Elaine wanted to be with him based on the early episodes and they completely change it later.

Am I the only person that prefers the first few seasons? Too many of the situations in the later seasons feel so ridiculous that they feel forced and aren't funny after you've seen them a few times.

This is only talking through a chuddy/current year lens but it was refreshing in the first season or so how the characters were nicer and it wasn’t always a bad ending where everyone gets fucked over for a gag. I liked the episode where Jerry gets this alcoholic drinking again but by the end he’s sober and they’re pals, that was nice.
