Why did early hollywood feel so occultic?
Why did early hollywood feel so occultic?
Cause it is best understood as being still of Romanticism
Enlightenment II didn’t happen until ~1945, and we’re starting to realize it ain’t really all that
Kenneth anger can explain it
Do you have films or gossip stories that you're basing this idea on? Or just vibes? Because I kind of get that you're saying, but what do you mean?
20s were a degenerate time. The 30s was a reactionary response to the degeneracy of the 20s.
I wonder how much crazy shit flappers REALLY got up to. I bet they were fucking crazy.
Babylon is a documentary.
Every single rumour about Clara Bow is true.
Film itself is occultic why do you think some of the first films were satanic witch shit what was that movie? HAXEN? there's tons of weird shit like that. It's not God's medium
Need a flapper bitch to Charleston on my dick with her thick bush while I lick her ankles
Just saw it not long ago. I loved that movie. But I also hated it.
cause it's filled with cultists..... anon
this is yellowface
Desire for earthly power + immortality can be found in many sub/cultures. It's the occult's secrecy that may allow them to get more extreme/crazy than others who have to remain an open book, in comparison.
occultic
learn english, faggot
Calm down, buddy. It's no big deal.
Occultism is literally larping
Satan has always infected the arts
"Occultic" isn't a commonly used word, but it is technically a valid term. It’s an adjective derived from "occult," which refers to the mystical, supernatural, or hidden aspects of reality—often associated with things like magic, astrology, or secret knowledge.
So, while you might not see it in everyday conversation or writing, it could be used in certain contexts to describe something related to the occult. It’s kind of a more formal or rarer alternative to just saying "occult." For example, you might say, "The occultic practices were passed down through generations," to describe something specifically related to occult traditions.
Not OP but you need to apologize to OP for your rude behavior. Like right now. I'm sure he's very upset.
Because you are a schizo and you're looking for it.
Calm down? There's no exclamation mark or caps.
You just attacked a person for no reason??? And you're wrong?? I think you should apologize to the OP.
this
t.occultist
I think to some degree the cameras and film of the era kind of impart that to us.
Movies are le OCCULT
midwits
people who believe movies are part of the occult are... averagely witted
Do you think about the words you use?
Everything in Hollywood Babylon was real
What was occult about Babylon?
Probably my favourite of Dashiell Hammett's Continental Op short stories is 'The Scorched Face'. Published 1925. Hardboiled pulp. The Op is hired to find a man's flapper daughters who have gone missing. And in his investigation, discovers a string of debutante flappers who have disappeared or been found dead. And traces it back to an old man, an Aleister Crowley-type cult leader. And he has heaps of followers, all young, rich, high-society types. Performing occult, 'sex magik' rituals. Drug-fuelled orgies. But, the old man wasn't a believer. Cynical. He was really just a conman. Secretly photographing these 'rituals' from behind a two-way mirror. And then shaking down these rich girls with the blackmail photos. That's what happened to all those girls, they were running away or killing themselves.
It's a cool story. True Dectective-y. Bang on the era you're talking about too.
''muh occult'' is sensationalism, a strategy aiming at mass appeal, so yeah midwits.
it does dovetail with CIA's use of mass media to plant ideas it wants uptake by the public
propaganda , sure
occult, no
and by occult i think people mean evil and not magical.
Occult doesn't mean either of those things, though.
wasn't all that stuff just hot at the time? seances, egyptian larping, etc
That's a great one. He touches on the subject of scam spiritualists in a couple others too I think. In general Hammett's detective fiction has refreshingly down-to-earth crimes and schemes.
it does for a lot of people,
context is important.
ik its hidden knowledge or wtvr, mostly in a supernatural context
Yea and propaganda means evil while psychological manipulation means magic hypnosis to a lot of people too, that doesn't mean that is what the words actually mean, its just means a lot of people are retarded magical black and white thinkers.
The only context is that you are cherry picking some retarded meaning that has nothing to do with the actual meaning of the word because you surround yourself with stupid people.
surround yourself with stupid people.
you mean like this board?
Sure if you only come here to gravitate towards the anons who only think like you and define occult as a like kind of evil magical propaganda or whatever.
you dont think that its common?
muh moloch
muh mason
etc
Continental Op could be a good TV show. It's pretty much all in the public domain now, surprised nobodies already doing it. Make it a period piece, or some tweaks set it today. A lot of good stories that are still fun and fresh. Hammett's novels will soon be public domain too. Maltese Falcon still has name recognition. And the Thin Man was huge.
All the demonic shit people get up to behind the scenes. The movie is literally called Babylon.
what demonic shit did they get up to? the biggest thing was probably an elephant but that's just extravagant
There is that whole scene when they go underground. And it looks like hell. And there's gay bondage and a crocodile and a masked buff guy eating rats and violent mob.
oh yeah
The whole movie they're doing stuff like that, it's just becomes more apparent when you see it all done in this fucked up hell setting. There's also the scene where they go out to "fight the snake" and there's a bit of allegory there about who is willing to do it, who fails, who succeeds and why.
gossip book about 90% made up stories
what did you mean by this?
did you know Clara Bow was fucking a college
football player?
no! she was fucking the entire team and they had gangbang orgies in the swimming pool
the whole book is like that
and that has what to do with kenneth anger?
He wrote the book they're talking about
o thk u
maybe learn to google fuckwit?
I hear Tobey has a memorable cameo in it, worth watching for him?
rude
Its a 3 hour + movie for a relatively short cameo (about 5-10 minutes). Definitely a memorable role, but the movie is worth watching at least once by its own merit anyway.
Do you have any other Continental Op recommendations? Red Harvest was great
Fly Paper, Dead Yellow Women and Corkscrew.
