The American cinema cut

which version

ive watched all of them. Which do you prefer?

final cut

So he can create living thinking androids with memories but he can't fix his 4 eyes? Suspension of disbelief ruined!

He wasnt even the real Tyrell, he was a replicant.

annoying dated music that's constantly droning in the background and ruining otherwise alright scenes

deckard is a completely uninteresting character for most of the films runtime

lots of pacing issues, like spending an enormous amount of time on the void kampf test

replicants don't make sense as a concept

tyrell corporation is just a cartoon-tier "evil inc."

Nah, it was rightfully panned by critics in the 80s, and was only saved from obscurity by tasteless weebs who were impressed that the story wasn't embarrassingly bad and the performances aren't completely stilted garbage like in their animes.

he doesn't need to

Overrated shit with fancy visuals, go fuck yourself.

I watch the Blade Runner that I want to make.

2001: A Space Odyssey exist, but Blade Runner comes really close.

Blade Runner had superb A++ set design and aesthetics, including how the actors looked and that inspired some of the most kino videogames of all time.

Actual plot and dialogue wasn't that special in execution even if ideas like replicants were neat.

I like it, can't say i love to watch it if that makes sense.

Yeah, well, one has technical superiority and when it comes down to it is a better representation of the artist's vision.

reminder that if you think deckard was a replicant then you are a certifiable grade A retard

"Deckard is a replicant" theory in actuality is just a cope for the fact that he is the single most dull action movie protagonist ever put on the silver screen.

*Not an "action" movie.

After years and years of me rewatching this only until like maybe 5-10yrs ago did I learn of that deckard was a replicant shit. imo it makes the story shittier

most dull action movie protagonist ever

Thats the point though hes a warn out bored cop whos forced to take a final case. I think Harrison's anger and not wanting to be their helped a great deal for the movie.

he is a replicant

No chicken jockey popcorn throwing

Factually wrong. The director's cut that came out after where they removed the voiceover was critically acclaimed.

He's a perfect Philip K Dick protagonist put to film if you've ever read his stories they're always government employees or corpos who are shlubby and way in over their heads dealing with crazy PKD stuff.

I agree OP. This movie is the GOAT.

action movie

Do you also think Chinatown and the Big Sleep are action movies?

Bro, why did he have to kill poor Sebastian too? It makes me sad

Thats the point though hes a warn out bored cop whos forced to take a final case.

To add to the point, he hates his life and drinks it away, however interacting with all the replicants and seeing their passion, plus meeting Rachel, reignites his drive to enjoy life and turn things around. It's a far better story than a retarded twist that he's a replicant

replicants don't make sense as a concept

deckard is a completely uninteresting character for most of the films runtime

That's fine. The story is mostly about the replicants and allows them, the city, and the aesthetics to shine rather than only the protagonist. It's only later that people pretend the main character must be the most interesting thing about the movie.

voight kampf

The test is great. This is not a shoot em up action flick. It's a thinking movie. The test as well as Deckard finding clues and using his computers is all about meticulous detective work. Which is the whole job of a blade runner and why they needed him. A blade runner is not some superhero ninja assassin, they're detectives. It's good scifi, atmospheric, unusual, and interesting.

replicants

Replicants do make sense as a concept. In this world, technology is still bulky, loud, slow, imprecise and shitty. They don't have miniature cell phones, thousands of highly intelligent droids, drones that can do anything, etc. They have to find a shitty pay phone with a screen that can barely make out the caller. Therefore cloned humans to use for disposable slave labor makes perfect sense. They are far more capable than any machine that can be made with the established tech. Again, good scifi.

escapism is the highest virtue

F A G G O T

all point and click games are hard lol

I want to create blade runner so I can harvest your organs for the WEF and force you to eat onions.

Which ever one had the most seeders.

If it makes you feel any better, the people in that world envy our world.

Its not even the best ridley scott movie.
Get some better taste.

what the fuck does that mean?

but the anniversary blu ray box set

it has every version/edit of the movie

can't fucking remember which is the one I like

Honestly I wish there was just the theatrical cut with the narration removed and no post-hoc Scott bullshit.

Also, he gets beat. The entire point of replicants is they are amazing and can accomplish so much, but only live for a few years. Deckard had years to do something and accomplished nothing but killing off unwanted "people"

Despite that, the concept of Deckard thinking "what if I am a replicant?" is an interesting one. It asks you what it means to be human. Twins are humans, clones would be. The directors cut at least implies it is crossing Deckards mind. There's nothing in the movie that supports that he is. Him not turning in Rachel is the entire emotional arc of the movie though. Humanity isn't defined by laws.

I figured it was because the screenwriters simply needed him gone for the final act but apparently in an earlier draft Sebastian was aware of and/or inadvertently responsible for the real Tyrell's death (the Tyrell we see in the film is actually a replicant and the real one is a meat popsicle.) He knew all along that there was no way to help the replicants and Batty killed him out of despair.

5909547_p0.jpg - 1216x2000, 506.72K

deckard falling in love with Rachel as a human is far more impactful then if he were a replicant. which is why i never thought he could ever be one.

Theatrical cut. I actually liked Ford's narration. Gave it more of a classic gumshoe feel. Just because of that they seem like two different movies.

Everything about the movie is more impactful if he is not a replicant. That theory is so dumb. And Ridley is so dumb for it.

i think both movies (and all the various cuts) kinda suck. cool prop and mini work in the first film though. pretty okay lighting and staging. the new one's only redeeming feature is cuban goon material.

Tyrell Corp

growing stronger replicants

bravo, GRRM

(the Tyrell we see in the film is actually a replicant and the real one is a meat popsicle

what? beyond the fifth element reference i don't get it. why would he have a replicant of himself?

The part after reaching the monolith is lame.
It's like they were overwhelmed by their ability to execute those rather lame (by today standards) visual effects.
That baby metaphor is shit as well.

With narrator
Open ending
No "subtitle" part about replicant=Deckard.
Ford was right about protagonist, Scott is just retarded.

I think he had gotten to the end of his life so froze himself until someone could extend it. Then used a replicant so no one would be the wiser

bill & ted's excellent adventure mogs it and all other movies that take themselves too seriously.

Anon Babble had my expectations so high it was a tremendous disappointment. i can only tell ya that a robot had a lousy speech and there was an origami...horse? unicorn?

Miley Cyrus in Blade Runner II - Replicant Reboot.

Deckard has a dream about a unicorn running through a field halfway through the film and the suggestion/implication is that it was a false memory bc he's a rep and that Gaffe knows about it and is letting him know that he knows by leaving the origami version of it. Or it's just a coincidence.

what if cats runner

Apu ai spam

What a terrible thread.

You're largely correct but the visuals were good and thats the most important part of cinema

Anyone got a streaming/ddl link for either theatrical cut? I'd prefer the international one. All I can find is final cut.

I don't think the test went on too long. I really like the movie because I felt like it never wasted my time or lingered on one point for too long. 2049 felt like a slog.

annoying dated music

Do you mean it was dated for the time, or now? Either way, the music is good.

Kinda mid, isn't it?

I love how this movie is supposed to be a dystopic view of the future, but the cyberpunk/neon-gothic hyperfuture looks so fucking comfy next to our real life dystopia haha

replicants don't make sense as a concept

They're just clones with simplified biology and limited lifespans.

living thinking androids

They're not androids and are never called that. They're biological constructs.

That was added years after the audience had decided they liked the movie. Ridley loves changing/ruining his movies as much as Lucas, and loves pointless idiotic twists like pretending Deckard is a replicant even if it destroys everything that made the movie good.

Final Cut but I skip the dream about the unicorn.
That dream is cut footage from another one of Scott's movies, inserted after the fact. It wasn't in the theatrical cut. In the original ending, the unicorn origami was a Gaffe leaving reference to Rachel (a rare and magical creature or something)

Yeah, I agree. It's just last time I saw it was that whatever the fuck it was called Final Cut? I can't remember. I'm okay with the suggestion of it being in the film.

Yes yes, you're truly the intellectual here

the cyberpunk/neon-gothic hyperfuture looks so fucking comfy next to our real life dystopia haha

kek in an alternate reality there's some cyberpunk detective watching Training Day or The Shield on his tablet and thinking "Fuck, I'm tired of all this neon and rain, give me those warm colors and basic technology..."

You can still eat noodles in the rain if you like

That dream is cut footage from another one of Scott's movies

This urban legend has been deboonked by true patriots.

0lu6x4gdb8ub1.jpg - 1516x2048, 266.33K

and all those brownoids! Look at how much diversity they get! So comfy!

The unicorn is Gaf's dream as Eckard was given his memories

Merely a coincidence

That was added years after

That dream is cut footage from another one of Scott's movies

i don't know why you dorks keep repeating this gay hoax. other people that worked on the movie (like the actual editor) have confirmed the unicorn dream was in the original cut and the studio removed it because they didn't understand the point. you can just say you don't like that part of the movie without making up fake and gay theories about it

It's hilarious watching the removed scenes that flesh out Deckard, Holden and Gaffe. Deckard calls Gaffe a dandy, and Gaffe is just seething with jealousy most of the movie because Deckard got the replicant task and is in the way of his promotion. Everyone now instead things Gaffe is deep and le supercop bullshit but there's nothing behind him.

So [the studio execs] were throwing away things that were there for reasons. I mean, it's all tied together in the final frames of the film when he lifts up the unicorn, the fact that they know that his thought pattern works with unicorns, it's one of his memories. Another scene where he's standing behind her in his apartment and he's out of focus, but you have this glow in the eyes which makes him... Could he be a replicant? Could he be? That was trimmed down.

-Terry Rawlings, editor of Blade Runner

but you have this glow in the eyes which makes him... Could he be a replicant? Could he be? That was trimmed down.

He's bullshitting. That was an accident due to how the effect worked.

Could be it...?
The seething jew Harrison Ford is wrong about his character, and the anglo-saxon Ridley Scott is right?

yeah and they accidentally shot the unicorn dream too, there was just a unicorn loose in the studio that day. at some point you have to admit that you have RDS (ridely derangement syndrome)

there was just a unicorn loose in the studio that day

Ridley always ran a pretty slack set

was he supposed to be asian or hispanic?

yes

Blade Runner hit a bullseye in a very difficult genre to judge from how many shitty cyberpunk movies there are compared to good ones. Cyberpunk movies have like a 11% chance to not be shit.
Deckard was never a replicant, that was made up for an interview by a person that we now recognize as a galactic fart-huffing pseud, Ridley Scott. Deckard was defeated in physical combat by every replicant. Deckard's backstory would be a ridiculous contrivance just to have a semi-effective replicant cop. Deckard was a guy.
The unicorn footage wasn't from Legend, you can stream both of these movies side by side on the nearest pirate streaming site and see for yourself. Different unicorn, different background, different everything.
Tyrell was indeed kino, so sympathetic but also cold-blooded, a meta-antagonist. Also a good casting and performance. Tyrell is one of the reasons that the sequel is kind of embarrassing, compared to the Jared Leto guy lol

nah bro the second unicorn is just there to symbolize "rarity"

it has nothing to do with the other unicorn from the other scene they shot

it's normal to have several unrelated unicorns in one movie, it's not like they're a symbol of rarity or anything

I enjoy Blade Runner, but it wasn't even the best movie to come out that day.

It's already established that Ridley loves pointless idiotic twists and needs to be saved from himself. This is like getting excited over the alien ripping off Ripley's head and speaking in her voice that Ridley wanted to have happen. That was totally going to be so epic right? No, it was rightfully cut same with the Deckard/replicant nonsense.

If it was cut, then it didn't happen. Deckard is not a replicant. This is further demonstrated in 2049.

Rachel is the unicorn, you idiot.

Deckard was never a replicant

The unicorn footage wasn't from Legend

You can't have it both ways. If the intention was for Deckard to be having unicorn dreams, which Gaffe somehow knows about, then the only explanation is that Deckard is a replicant. Particularly given the conspicuous mention of Rachel's false memories of her non-existent childhood.
"Deckard is just a guy" is in fact the awkward kludgy intepretation. It doesn't matter that he gets his ass kicked by the other replicants, clearly he's not that kind of replicant.

siding with studio kikes over the white man's artistic vision

yup, severe RDS. what is it about a successful white male that invites such seething?

I watch it in clips on a YouTube playlist

If you are making a race of mutant slave bio robots but you don't want them on Earth, why would you make them as close to human-looking as possible?
Why not make them blue? why not give them an extra arm growing out of their ass?
Remember the chinese man in the cold room that made the nexus-6's eyes? Why did he make them so human looking? If he had made the eyes fluorescent green he would still be alive.
They basically desgned them to infiltrate it's completely retarded

Why did 2049 suck so much? And why did Anon Babble pretend it was good?

successful

I wouldn't describe Ridley Scott that way

right, they shot a scene with a unicorn that symbolizes "the rarity and magicness of rachel" and has nothing to do with the other unicorn from the other scene they shot for the same movie. makes perfect sense. they couldn't possibly be a connection between the two unicorns.

see this
Gaff and Deckard were dreaming of something unique and magical and beautiful. When Deckard picks up the paper unicorn, the next line is Gaff talking about Rachel because he gets it. This is not complicated imagery.

It doesn't matter that he gets his ass kicked by the other replicants, clearly he's not that kind of replicant.

The sex robot almost strangled him, and the child's toy who can stick her hand in boiling water was clearly a mortal physical threat.
Maybe you should watch the movie again

Roy is more human than the humans

Jokes on you Deckard is a replicant too

Ridley is an idiot

Bladerunner is the dystopia but it looks better than our reality
and way less oppressive even with homicidal androids running amok
Mind you it's going to get much much worse and no you won't get to Mars or Saturn or anywhere at all

yes, that's exactly right, you wouldn't. that's the crux of the derangement syndrome: denying achievement.

Theatrical because it's the only 35mm copy available
Fuck you

Workprint

this fucking sucks
i'd be a lot happier with our dystopia if it at least had a cool midgar or alternate 2019 LA look to it, but instead we have to deal with everything looking boring and bleached which just adds to the ennui

Anon Babbleboringdystopia is the greatest subreddit ever created
this board belongs to it ever sicne trannies took over

It didn't suck. It looked great and the performances were credible except Jared Leto. It just had too much dumb shit in the mix.
The idea that there are a bunch of one-eyed replicants about to start an insurgency is the biggest idea in the movie and it just sort of farts its way into the movie and vanishes.
The whole idea that you need your replicants to fuck and have babies because you can't make replicants fast enough is absolutely retarded. Nothing actually works like that.
So it had problems but it wasn't trash.

You should go over there right away and post stuff and get upboats and become a subreddit moderator and also don't come back

The sex robot almost strangled him, and the child's toy who can stick her hand in boiling water was clearly a mortal physical threat.

you didn't understand his point. the whole idea of the rachel-style replicants is to control them with fake human memories, tyrell says so. this would not work if they had superhuman abilities that activated in times of danger, they have to be believably human at all times for the lie to work. deckard would obviously be that type of replicant.

This, and Harrison Ford were the main problems. A solid 8/10 sci fi film. Soundtrack,

The Final Cut, but I cover my eyes and scream at the top of my lungs during the unicorn scene

Look, you're arguing that "Greedo always shot at Han first". In the first cut, Han shot Greedo while sitting at the table killing him. That's what fans saw when they first watched the movie. That's what they loved. Lucas later went back and changed it for no reason and no one asked for. Now it's stupid, nonsensical, and removes everything cool about Han. That's what Ridley did to Deckard and what you're arguing in favor of, retard.

"Deckard is just a guy" is in fact the awkward kludgy intepretation.

particularly considering how many scenes are references/set-up for the replicant thing. the unicorn origami, "have you ever taken the test yourself," rachel's spider memory etc etc. people who claim they prefer theatrical have to be nuts, it's like if you tried to edit the twist out of fight club. an obviously incomplete movie.

Through video essays on YouTube.

The whole idea that you need your replicants to fuck and have babies because you can't make replicants fast enough is absolutely retarded

That part is fine and does make some sense. The concept that they find it impossible to make replicants reproduce at all though is utterly retarded. We can do that shit with ease right now, they certainly would be able to. That they would make a replicant woman for breeding who would die delivering a single baby is utterly incomprehensibly stupid though.

except we objectively, factually know that the original cut had the unicorn dream etc and the thing people saw in theaters was an edit by studio kikes. you are free to prefer the kikified version if you so please, but ridley has the right to restore his own movie to the shape it was in before the kikes had their way with it. it's nothing like your greedo example at all.

the whole idea of the rachel-style replicants is to control them with fake human memories, tyrell says so.

This is the only thing your entire post that is in the movie the rest is gibberish
It makes zero fucking sense to have two prototypes on Earth quasi-legally, one of whom is the CEO's personal secretary, like a pet bird, and the other one is a fake veteran cop and you stage meetings with the chief of police, and his job is to gack other replicants, but he almost gets killed all the time because you deliberately made him weaker to see if he could do it.
Maybe if you lay off the sugary beverages and snacks for 24 hours you will regain your ability to spot explanations that just bring up twice as many questions.

The concept that they find it impossible to make replicants reproduce at all though is utterly retarded.

What the fuck does this mean? Does your toaster fuck other toasters so you get more toasters?

We can do that shit with ease right now

We can make replicants that fuck right now? Did you spend all day huffing WD-40?

That they would make a replicant woman for breeding who would die delivering a single baby is utterly incomprehensibly stupid though

It was a surprise to the replicant's creator that this was possible, it was not an intended design feature holy shit what the fuck
if you are trolling, excellent job but if these are really your thoughts spread out on a screen you should stick a gun in your mouth and yank the trigger as many times as you can in a split second

The purpose of "have you taken the test yourself" is to imply that he might fail the test, even though he's 100% human.
He's a human who is a mere functionary, and the replicants have more depth than he does

they didn't deliberately make him weaker "to see if he could do it," they made him human-strength because he has to be for the system of control to work, and the system of control is what is being tested by the prototypes, as, once again, explained by tyrell. you're not arguing facts, you're doing some retarded mock-exasperation cinemasins thing. yes, this is what happens in the movie. if you think it's stupid then, hey, i guess you think it's a stupid movie. but it's still factually what happens in the movie.

Exactly this. It's amazing how many times this needs to be repeated and explained so thoroughly because there's so many idiots who can't comprehend something so simple. It's a dumb twist just for twists' sake. It's not deep. It's not interesting. It doesn't do anything that the actual movie doesn't already do far better, and in fact destroys the best parts of the movie by being so stupid.

The problem is that if Deckard is a replicant, then nothing means anything. It's just a pointless twist.
If he's a man, then there's some meaning there. He's a man who might as well be a machine, going through the motions of killing these synthetic people without understanding why. When Roy gives his speech at the end, he's trying to tell Deckard something, but Deckard doesn't understand. He just has the same baffled expression as always.
The replicants are more human than the organic humans, and that only works if Deckard is a man.

I don't think the replicants were mechanical. They were designed organisms that lacked reproductive ability because that's difficult. Their biology also didn't last very long.

sure, and if you were shown a hypothetical twistless edit of fight club you might come up with a similar explanation for why, upon punching himself in the face, the protag says "this reminds me of fighting tyler durden," but seeing as we have the full version of fight club we know it is in fact a reference to the coming twist.

It's just a pointless twist.

I haven't read the book but I know that PKD's work is jam packed with exactly these sort of rug pulls and reality switcheroos all the time

The Fight Club twist adds meaning. Deckard being a replicant would remove meaning. Fortunately the studio saved Ridley from himself.

annoying dated music that's constantly droning in the background and ruining otherwise alright scenes

Stopping reading right there

The unicorn dream doesn't confirm he's a replicant, it's just to plant the question in his and our mind.
Literally anyone can think of a unicorn, I'm doing it right now, and I'm no repllicant.

I don't think they were mechanical either but I think they were manufactured in some way because one gets delivered to Jared Leto in a bag fully grown.
There's no way that figuring out how to make them fuck babies into each other is more efficient than just making your replicants build another replicant factory

The book is a fair bit different from the movie. A fully accurate adaptation might be interesting.

Are you a hard-bitten noir detective hopelessly in love with a beautiful unique unearthly creature?

I'm no repllicant.

Sorry, anon, but it's time to be retired

You also wouldn't want your sentient slave race being able to reproduce by themselves.

>replicants don't make sense as a concept

not the way they're portrayed in the movie. in the book the glaring difference between humans and androids was androids completely lacked empathy. Androids would do shit like discuss killing a mentally challenged guy right in front of him, kill and dismember animals for fun etc. thats what the voight kampf test was, it was an empathy test. but in the movie they made replicants basically the same as humans, which same emotions and everything, and its unclear why they are being hunted down to begin with. meanwhile in the book these androids that lacked empathy had to massacre their way to the ships to get to earth, which clearly portrays why they are dangerous and need to be hunted by deckard

I'm no repllicant.

The tortoise is stuck on its back, its legs waving helplessly. Why aren't you helping?

They're shown as a bit autistic in the movie. They have emotions but lack understanding

I concur

The problem is that if Deckard is a replicant, then nothing means anything.

no, it just means something else. now he's a race traitor. that's meaningful. your musings about "replicants being more human than humans" are fake and gay and the movie (either version) already mocks them by having tyrell proudly declare that "more human than human is our motto" while making mass produced sex slaves and cannon fodder, ie a sub-human pile of squalor and misery. they are not noble. they will eat each other alive. there is no nobility in being a slave.

The thread is languishing on page 10, it's so close to archiving. Why aren't you bumping?

see
fortunately, ridley's version is the default one everybody sees now, not the one the kikes have circumcised

From the wiki plot summary
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Androids_Dream_of_Electric_Sheep?
it's actually pretty close to the film, but Deckard has a wife in this version, and Priss appears to be an identical model to Rachel. The ending is quite different though. I thought this part was interesting:

Deckard ends up at a police station staffed by officers he's never seen

An official named Garland reveals that the entire police station is a sham, claiming that both Deckard and Phil Resch, the station's resident bounty hunter, are also androids.

Resch, unaware of Garland's revelation, shoots Garland in the head, escaping with Deckard

Desperate to know the truth, Resch asks Deckard to administer the empathy test on him.

The test indicates Resch has sociopathic tendencies but confirms he is human. Deckard then tests himself, confirming that he is also human but has a sense of empathy for certain androids.

completely, it is a slog

now he's a race traitor. that's meaningful.

Maybe to your 2020s-brained mind, cooked from Anon Babble brainmelt.
Roy Batty was shown as more thoughtful and introspective than any of the humans.

100%

you are a certifiable grade A retard

I think that's harsh but it does separate wheat from the chaff

bump cause I chortled

Deckard then tests himself, confirming that he is also human but has a sense of empathy for certain androids.

See this, idiots?
Deckard is human in the source material.

Fun factoid: the Tyrell Institute developed and built the android in the Mr. R.I.N.G. episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
