The main problem Doctor Who has now is that a whole generation was raised to think that the Tennant-era slop was what the show is, or is supposed to be, whereas that coudln't be further from the truth.
As soon as the show started to get back to it's roots with Capaldi (mean with that kind of actor in the role, not nessecarily everything else), the new generation who had been raised to think the Doctor was suppsoed to be some young bleeding heart fetish fuel fell off. Then the BBC shat the bed with Chinballs and RTD came back decades after 2005 with an ego the size of a planet and shat the bed a second time.

In other words, for the last 20 years no fucker has had any real idea of what the show is supposed to be. And so no wonder it's starting to fail on its arse.

RTD being announced was a massive red flag, because it indicated there's no good succession plan, no fresh blood, no new ideas. But hey maybe he still had the magic touch? No, he immediately started leaning into his worst impulses (without anyone to stop him this time) and surrounded himself with cronies & enablers.
RTD's choice of Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor confirmed that RTD no longer understood the appeal or essence of the character of the Doctor (or perhaps he never did?).
RTD's choice to bring back the Tennant Doctor and grant him a new regeneration not only completely ruined the show's half-a-century tradition of regeneration - it was also indicative of extreme desperation in terms of brand perception and viewership.
To top it all off, RTD's new episodes have been steaming garbage he pathetically shields with the guise of twee parody, instead of writing something he truly believes in. The'yre just more lore-destroying, poorly written, performative visionless slop. Anyone who thinks the Ncuti episodes are good is a flesh automaton and I do not believe they are sentient, same as Whittaker's stuff.

History will remember Classic Who and NuWho (2005-2017). Notice I said 2017, because anyone that's actually sentient and has the light in their eyes recognizes NuWho's essence 'disappeared' starting with series 11, everything since then has just been a corpse of a show, caked in makeup embarrassingly being paraded around as if it's still alive.

The fact it's still kinda shite after Chibnall (but in a different way) has demoralized all the fans who had hopes of the show's improvement, most just got up and went to watch or do something else. So now the only remaining vocal NuWHO fans are sycophants who are obsessed with praising the show, because everyone else either can't be arsed to open up anymore or the show has adopted patterns that make it verboten to criticize it.

I'll explain this by comparing NuWHO to the The Flash from CW.
The Flash show started ok, for CW standards at least (let's call this NuWHO S1-S10). Then it went into the toilet for a bit (let's call this Chibnall) and a sizeable portion of the viewers loudly criticized the show's decline in quality. Then it went through a very brief "revival" period where it showed signs of perhaps being good again as if the criticism was heard (RTD announcement and initial hype)...... before rapidly turning into shite again (RTD2 era). At that point the people who previously protested about the Flash's lack of quality just gave up and pissed off forever without saying much at all, not watching the show anymore. From that point on the show's reception seemed overwhelmingly positive despite the viewership dropping off a cliff and episode quality being crap, why? Because all the viewers who can't stand trash simply left, leaving the fanbase full of sycophants who'll eat up any Flashslop and loudly cheer at everything hoping to convince themselves and each other that they're having a good time.

Sound familiar? NuWHO is in the same spot now. Reditors and twitterfags are cheering for the show, all 500-1000 of them them in total. Because everyone else left, and everyone else left for a reason. So I hope RTD appreciates the 90% of audience scores he's gonna get in his final series because it's about to get cancelled.

But focussing only on that base ignores the far greater magnitude of viewers, both casuals and fans alike, who've increasingly given up on the show over these past several years.
