I think part of it was that I watched movies that someone else pirated and livestreamed for me, and then instead of bothering with space I just used one of the many streamed sites.
I stopped using those, and just went back to torrents, but some people started there, so they don't know what to go back to.
There's also the issue where a lot of americans have ISPs that keep track of their torrents, so they need vpns to torrent, adding another point of resistance.

I remember talking to some youngin last year or so, and they really wanted to see the latest episode of some ghost show, and I made some comment like "people don't know how to pirate these days", and she responded with that she does, but "it's just not up on any of the sites", meanwhile I could just get the episode within 2 minutes and stream it.
So yeah.
