It actually happens is like a sidequel to the original movie. Events happen alongside the original events. Like you go to the hotel Leon was staying at and he's complaining to the manager that people went in his room (Deckard). It pretends another shuttle of replicants came down and this Blade Runner was tasked to find them. There's like a dozen people and they're randomized if they're replicants or not so you can have different playthroughs. Still a fun story and very atmospheric

Story wise 2049 absolutely has some issues but all involved were perfectly cast in my opinion. I'm no Leto fan and get that he's a meme nowadays, but I legit liked him in that role quire a bit.

Leto himself was fine. The character is pants-on-head retarded though, as is the plot in general really. It's clear they just wanted to recycle Batty's thematic storyline and focus on it. The problem with that is Tyrell was a major element of that, and K has no Tyrell. He's just fighting circumstance, but instead of just focusing on that we have this dumbass setup with Wallace and Deckard.
Fuck me just write ninety minutes of an android questioning its existence. Why the convoluted premise with minimal relevance and zero payoff?

Nothing you said is wrong but for me, 2049 does something very similar to the original in that I just wanna hang out in that world and soak it all in. I prefer Vangelis but I also loved what Zimmer did with his score quite a bit as well. Again I just love doing a back to back viewing whenever I can. Hard to beat Tyrell as an enigmatic character as well.
