Does buying physical films give it a more inherent quality than just torrenting a file? I think it does...
I have had way too many digital files lost or corrupted to feel the same kind of ownership that a bluray gives. So I guess rewatchability is why I buy physical media.
Well unless you're downloading 50gb full disk rips, then objectively, yes. But also, yes, owning is inherently superior to pirating.
buying physical media makes you superior to the rabble that merely "download" content
that top shelf is all 4k discs so you can double that filesize
Speaking some foreign language isn't a substitute for having a coherent argument.
only 4 criterions
yeah I like it. the tactile aspect is fun, and having stuff on a shelf is cool. people who parade torrents around on here are usually autistic, not that i don't torrent it's just, if there's a film I really like then I'd like to own it for real. feels disrespectful to reduce a piece of art to a usb stick
4k uhd vs bluray?
feels disrespectful to reduce a piece of art to a usb stick
3D bluray
Hello, Based Department? I need to file a claim. No, I cannot hold.
They hated him because he spoke the truth
ownership
own it for real
LOL, you don't "own" anything, it's still just a license. If you "owned" the movie you would be able to screen it for a paying audience without risking fines and prison time.
For me it's music. I still download my fair share of mp3s, but I like having that CD case in my hand with some nice cover art.
If you "owned" the movie you would be able to screen it for a paying audience
imagine asking someone for money to see a movie
owning it means you can copy the disc and hand the copy to everyone who visited to watch it with you
yah i find myself rewatching movies I physically own more
Old pic but its some of my collection
owning movies like Cannibal Holocaust and shit makes me feel good, knowing its banned in so many countries but my American self can buy it and keep it forever and no streaming service can withdraw my license of censor it
I own a lot of movies. It's embarrassing. I torrent or rent off Amazon Prime now. If I really like a movie, I'll buy it. Especially if Arrow or Criterion do a nice release. As far as quality goes, nothing beats having the disc. I'm not that autistic though.
I hope you have a separate case for those Godzilla discs from Criterion. The glue in the book fucking destroys the discs. It's the most retarded design they've ever done besides that obnoxious Fellini boxset. My King Kong vs. Godzilla disc was ruined because of it.
>I own a lot of movies
>I torrent or rent off Amazon Prim
>If I really like a movie, I'll buy it. Especially if Arrow or Criterion do a nice release

kek
Ok I'm autistic, so what? Sometimes I don't feel like downloading a movie. Maybe I want to rent it. Maybe I want to own it. Maybe I am ok with torrenting a movie. I don't know. It depends where my 'tism takes me. You caught me, but I'm not that embarrassed.
how often do you actually watch your movie collection? how often do you sit down and think, i'm going to watch a movie i've already seen before, possibly multiple times, and not experience anything new for the next two or three hours.
I go through phases. I have a very insane physical media collection and I'm sitting here watching local news.
I buy physical to support boutique companies who actually do work doing reprints and saving films as well as often bothering to do bonus features like interviews or if possible writer/director commentary.
I know there's not a ton of cultural value in saving things like Rabid Grannies or Revenge of the Living Dead Girls but there's also a lot of genuinely great films that also get saved by places like Severin like Viy and The Stunt Man.
I'm still pro-piracy as it's the only reliable way to beat corporate fucks trying to do the Disney/WB thing where they vault shit and make it unavailable though.
This is kind of dumb. Discs are digital already, there's no actual material difference between a movie on a disc and on a HDD or flash drive. Unless it was shot on film and you're watching an actual film print there's no correlation between the film and the storage media.
I rewatch stuff plenty. So what if I've seen it before. Do you only listen to songs once?
Do you only listen to songs once?
there's a big difference between something that takes between 2 and 7 minutes and something that takes upwards of 90. i'll listen to songs i like over and over, but rarely would i listen to an entire album from start to finish.
as for the movie equivalent, i do often open movies i've torrented to watch individual scenes. but that seems tedious to do with discs.
but rarely would i listen to an entire album from start to finish.
That says a lot honestly.
I'm old enough that I used to go to blockbuster every week and borrow dvds and games to copy. I have a huge library and i photocopied the covers and everything. I mostly download stuff now but there are movies I just don't see on streaming services or the torrent sites but they might be on private trackers I don't use them.
physical media can't be changed by stealth or edited or removed from the service. these days that's special so I salute all other physical media enjoyers
Ok I'm autistic, so what?
Our condolences.
What is it you're not able to find? What obscure movies are you after?
Just got my first Criterion, Jabberwocky
Bit concerned if it'll run in my region but surely a store can't sell discs you can't play
He said it's so corpos can't edit or remove things you fucking yidsney shill
I like knowing I can rewatch the movie or tv show at anytime without needing internet or jumping through any hoops.
About 90% of movies and tv shows I watch are from my own DVDs and BDs. 5% is from a website or subscritpion service. 5% going to someones house and watching cable tv with them.
God forbid I'm curious about these mythical movies that only exist on DVD.
Genuinely how old are you lmfao
how often do you actually watch your movie collection? how often do you sit down and think, i'm going to watch a movie i've already seen before, possibly multiple times, and not experience anything new for the next two or three hours.
zoomer moment
How about I just never ask anything again? You're so gay, dude.
i watch the LotR films every christmas (fellowship on christmas eve, then one a day until boxing day) and it wouldn't feel the same if i wasn't hauling out the big-ass extended edition DVD boxset to pop the disc in, then switching discs halfway through each movie. i dunno, it adds to the soul
Not that anon, but don't torrents require someone to actually put the file up to download? I imagine there are some movies and tv shows that get taken down and not reuploaded or shared. I can't name any myself, but it seems unlikely that everything is up available immediately. I heard some people wait months, maybe years, for a certain movie or show to get uploaded. Please correct me if I am wrong of course.
ayo fr fr if it aint on streaming how can it finna exist
Genuinely
die fucking faggot child
The amount of seethe this one post caused is immense
Nah. I don't do anything with the cases of the things I own; I don't read the back cover, need the specs, enjoy the cover art, etc. they literally just occupy space.
It's also way quicker to select a movie on my server. I wouldn't want to physically search through or organize ~1,600 films on a shelf when that can be automated by my NAS.
