15 episodes

15 episodes

what the fuck is englands problem?

Are there only 15 episodes? Holy shit.
Fawlty Towers only has 12.
Beats having 35 seasons of utter shit though.

American TV shows: 30 seasons (only 8 of them good) with 24 episodes each
British TV shows: 2 "series" with three episodes the first "series" and only two the second, for a total of 5 episodes.

American TV shows: 30 seasons (only 8 of them good) with 24 episodes each

That's still 192 kinos. Beats the other way

The Office (UK): 2 series, 14 episodes total

I don't even see how character development would even have time to take place.

character development

american sitcoms start with a raw lump of aimless dough and only figure out the characters after 2 or 3 seasons when the actors have done the heavy lifting of defining them for a while and the writers take notes.
this isn't 'character development', it's just a consequence of american television writer's rooms. the idea behind shorter sitcoms is that the characters arrive on screen fully-formed and funny straight away.

when i used to watch that as a kid it always felt like i had been watching it for months on end never realized it was on loop

I think I heard that British networks love doing premieres and finales because they have the highest ratings, so its not for artistic reasons. But what kinda hype could a Mr.Bean finale even generate? Maybe Rowan just wanted to do other shit

the idea behind shorter sitcoms is that the characters arrive on screen fully-formed and funny straight away.

The Office (USA) is leap years better than The Office (UK)

sorry guv, we needed to make another season of eastenders and dr who instead

what's the most kino episode, mini golf or barber shop?

hotel episode

Makes me wonder how the fuck did Peep Show manage to get 9 fucking series

ps.jpg - 300x168, 15.08K

blackadder has 24 episodes and it run for 7 years

BEAN: 15 EPISODES
FAWLTY TOWERS: 12 EPISODES

MADE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS SYNDICATED WORLDWIDE

PRETTY GOOD GAME

wrong. UK version is streets ahead of the US one.
The latter completely missed the point of the original series

what's the point?

the UK version is meant to capture the dreary nature of office life and the mildly eccentric moments that make it somewhat bearable.
US version is le whacky boss and over the top antics and fancy parties xdxXDDXD
isn't this just so fun and whacky?? zOMG

Meanwhile Black Mirror is still chugging along that bastard Brooker

the UK version is meant to capture the dreary nature of office life and the mildly eccentric moments that make it somewhat bearable.

Not the anon you were responding to but the US does this as well, except better.

US version is le whacky boss and over the top antics

The UK also has this, but it's done differently because your sense of humor is different.

UK captures normal british office life which is dreary and depressing, US captures normal american office life which is fake and depressing what is the problem? UK and the US are different right? why would the shows be carbon copies of each other then?

Making that much of a global impact with only 15 episodes is increasingly impressive

It's depressing how this came out in the early 90s and it might as well be a relic from Ancient Egypt.

innocent silly humor

everyone is mild mannered

cozy locations

Nothing like this will ever be made again, and the UK that's portrayed in it no longer exists.

The US version was done that way because all your tv is designed to get as many people as possible to watch it so they can make money from companies shilling all kinds of slop to them. There was zero interest in artistic merit beyond what it took to get eyeballs on it.

Christmas episode is one of the best. And I don't think there's even one non-white person in any of the episodes. Kino.

UK version is streets ahead of the US one.

It's really not worth watching

Shorter series mean the entire thing can thing can be written by a single writer so things tend to be a bit more consistent and precise. A typical 24 episode American season might have a dozen different people contributing scripts so things tend to be far more inconsistent

It’s not just the handful of episodes a season it’s the gap between seasons which can be years.

But hey it’s better than 15 episodes of filler.

yes, the US version isn't worth watching

streets ahead

what went wrong in the bong brain that this means 'better'

if you've to ask you're streets behind

There's no US version of a UK show that's better.
They're always dogshit for one of two reasons

They make like for like copies of episodes where it doesn't work because the culture is different between the two

Or

Americans (Jews) run the series into the ground so they can milk every penny they can from it

Sometimes it's a combination where they start off with like for like episodes, but the show picks up some traction so Americans (Jews) keep writing their own episodes and run it into the ground looking to milk every penny they can from it.
Bongs understand how familiarity breeds contempt. That's why a lot of shows are only a few seasons and those seasons only have a few episodes. Also because of this For instance, Steptoe and Son has 8 seasons and 57 episodes. Of those 57 episodes 27 are black and white and such bad quality hardly they're practically unwatchable. Sanford and Son (which it's based on) has only 6 seasons, but 136 episodes.
Only having a few episodes (Fawlty Towers, The Royle Family, Mr Bean, Only Fools and Horses sort of counts despite it's 64 episodes, not including those 3 shit ones that came later, because it was across 25 years, Porridge etc) means it never outstays its welcome and because of it it becomes "timeless".
Something like the Sopranos being made in Bongistan wouldn't work because the crime landscape is completely different to what it is in America. A like for like remake would be dreadful. Same way the vast majority of like for like remakes in Freedomland are dreadful.

There's no US version of a UK show that's better.

The Office (US) blows the UK version away and at times is riotously funny.

Nice bait, Ameritard.

The real goal is always a christmas special

why does rowan atkinson look so swarthy despite being a native anglo???

I'd consider Guy Ritchie movies like Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to be the Brit equivalent of the Sopranos , obviously that stuffs 25 years old now and probably doesn't represent current year London

Then there's Red Dwarf which happily defied the trend; one of the longest running sci-fi shows of all time, I think second longest british one ever after Doctor Who (which kinda doesn't count).
12 seasons, and seven of those are pretty much unarguably good (every fanbase has it's 'it stopped being good after season 2/3/4 etc' fans you can't please, but for most Red Dwarf remains very good until season eight where things went a bit weird).
It even had an american pilot episode which everyone agrees was shit and you can watch on youtube if you have a truly iron will.

youtube.com/watch?v=8mlnntKi2no

God I just remembered how much I love Red Dwarf. I haven't watched it in over a decade. I should do something about that.

School

the jazz version of god rest ye merry gentlemen is still the best Christmas song out there

american sitcoms start with a raw lump of aimless dough and only figure out the characters after 2 or 3 seasons when the actors have done the heavy lifting of defining them for a while and the writers take notes.

And then by season 5 they are completely Flanderized

And every season has just six episodes, and every season completely changes the setting and mixes up all the chacters and costumes and sets so that it's halfway to being a new show that just uses the same actors. God Blackadder might be the most british show ever by this metric. An american company would look at this and be like "Could we not get like six seasons out of this before we have to switch?"

American Horror Story does this quite well, they just have the problem of dragging it out for too many episodes. 6 is the sweet spot.

I'm not reading all of that but the US version is good, the UK version is just forgettable

Nah the office US seasons 1&2 are probably better than the 2 series of office plus Xmas specials. But the office past season 2 gets so retarded it dips well below the office UK. The Netflix office UK movie help close the gap but James spader and the sabre seasons were too much to overcome. UK is the less trash show by a mile

The conceit of The Office doesn't even make sense in the US because they didn't have all those interminable fly on the wall workplace documentaries in the late 90s. They made it literally just a sitcom in an Office, they could have done that without buying the rights and making Steve's eyes bulge with imagined riches.

Red Dwarf is literally the only show I've ever seen that goes completely to shit and then actually gets good again

I was led to believe that was physically impossible

Rock bottom.jpg - 470x339, 55.86K

Watch it on netcuck

Just 4 seasons

Realise like 2 years later that there is more

I started torrenting and never looked back.

Here's an apples to apples one

British version: 5 seasons, 35 episodes

American version: 4 seasons, 52 episodes

And the American version is so much better even though they went with "the incel dork also looks like a model", it's just a flat out less retarded show overall

this, if not earlier

Eh, you never missed anything, the first 4 seasons are the best anyway

Quality over quantity

Americans don't care about the quality of anything, so long as there's plenty of it.
British people are a lot more refined than their dysgenic cousins.
Mr Bean plays very well in America because you can be a knuckle dragging gorilla and still understand it.
It's very telling that it's one of the few British comedy shows that they didn't feel the need to remake and dumb down.
Of course there are anomalies. Steptoe and Son has 57 episodes and the quality never dipped for one second.

based.
That scene still cracks me up today.

mfw he adjusts the volume knob while conducting

Fawlty Towers only has 12.

what the fuck I can't believe this is true.
My dad's a britbong and I grew up watching british TV shows and I could have sworn there was way more episodes than that.
wild.

There's also a cartoon and it's pretty good

Mister Bean’s best show only had 10 episodes. Blackadder Goes Forth

IMG_5176.jpg - 607x505, 36.67K

he should have multiplied.

My fellow Americans.
Let us not complain about how abruptly our favorite UK series end.
Let us all rejoice that Rowan Atkinson is still alive.
For it could be worse. Father Ted ended abruptly because the actor died abruptly.

We all miss you, Father Ted

the original run was ok. the one where he gets a parrot and tries to teach it to talk is hilarious.

puts tape recorder with him saying hello on loop and goes to sleep for the night

next morning the parrot is dead

the revival of the cartoon was ok. But they seem to be trying more modern stuff with Bean trying to go viral on youtube and shit

Fuck I forgot about Father Ted!

I hear your a racist now Father

youtu.be/6zkL91LzCMc

just looked it up. Apparently there's a new season coming out this year.

Teddy - Copy.png - 560x418, 302.46K

what book is this? look interesting.

Really crazy it isn’t 100 episodes

bongs make tv shows so to they can later make money from syndication in other countries and from the rights when americans inevitably make their own american version
ricky gervais is a billionaire because of how many the office international remakes are there

Episode two or three has David getting his arsehole torn open for making a racist joke at an office party. Good episode.

More like White Dwarf lmao
What the fuck did they do to Cat and Lister? Especially in the second American pilot.

Quantity does not determine quality pleb
