Pantheon

I just finished watching pic related last night and HOLY SHIT, that finale was insane. Started rewatching from episode 1 and I'm picking up all these little things I didn't notice the first time around. Who else has seen it, and what are your thoughts?

I liked the first season because it seemed mostly within reason. The end of season 2 got ridiculous. Which isn't bad but I don't think it translates well to television. The book is likely a better format so I'm probably going to pick up the book at some point.

Pretty much this. I didn't realize it was based on a book though. I'm just tired of the trope of the ending, "oh we created our own universe" it's just the same shit as Devs. It's boring now.

Some say the 2nd season's ending was rushed. Regardless of whether or not it was, I felt it had a great payoff. All the shit like "94523895 years later" had me like "What the fuck?"

It's perfect. A shame it was unavailable for so long.

The ending blew my mind. Unfortunately, there is no book. There were different books combined into the show. None of them have Caspian

Same. I'm a bit younger than the elder Millennial/young Gen X intended audience but it's great. Love the subtle Easter eggs.

I just liked how Maddie was stubborn enough to do it, just to get Caspian back. I also really liked the contrast between Caspian and Holstrom; the reason Caspian ultimately won their fight was because of their ideals. Holstrom would do anything to survive, while Caspian was 100% ready to die for what he believed in, a quality Holstrom lacked.

The book The Hidden Girl is a collection of short stories. Unfortunate that Caspian isn't in it because he really brought the story together.

Devs had the boring Christian style though. This was more of a fractal situation with reincarnation motifs. Far less annoying. That said, Sonoya Mizuno...
Totally disagree the ending was rushed. Rather felt like the only time I've seen exponential growth adequately modeled.

Devs

Except that I believe Pantheon. I didn't buy it in Devs.

This. The whole show felt like an anime, but in good. It starts with high school drama and in the end they blow up planets. Maddie getting so angry at the end that she locked in for a hundred thousand years was pure shounen anime

Yeah, I'm with you. Some people I've talked to thought there could have been a whole third season after the 20-year time jump, but IMO it likely would have stagnated. Pantheon didn't overstay its welcome. It also got an ending, period, unlike Inside Job, which I'm still salty about.

They finished the last episode before the first one aired. It wasn't rushed. They planed it that way.

It really followed the uploading idea to its conclusion. Everything beyond that ending, would be beyond our comprehension.

Right after finishing it, before my rewatch, I already had the feeling that they had the ending planned from the very beginning and just wrote backwards.

Yeah that's one of those opinions I see from people who are just too dumb to think it through. For years I'd ask people who said they wanted more Cowboy Bebop what they wanted and invariably it was more of the Spike/Julia storyline, something that works precisely because of how limited and ambiguity is. Surprise surprise, the live action went for that and it was shit.

Anyone who thought Spike didn't die has a room temperature IQ, it wasn't even subtle.

the lyrics to "Blue"

"his" star dimming out at the very center of the screen, in accordance with what Laughing Bull told Jet

that very black-and-white screen of Spike face-down

What's really cringe was that people wrote fanfics starring Spike after he totally didn't die there.

Oh yeah that's another level of stupid I didn't even bother mentioning. It's one thing to not get that the flashbacks needed to be brief so you can fill in your own half baked imagination. It's another to fundamentally reject the life/death/dream/wake motif of the entire damned series because you're attached to a character.

Sorry for the confusion, I forgot to type "IQ" and tried to delete the comment in time.
Also, did the live-action really need so much Vicious? Vicious works as a villain because he shows up in a total of 5 episodes in a 26-episode series, which still gives him more prominent than anyone else Spike has faced off against. He's great as the "looming in the shadows, pulling the strings" archetype, doesn't need a whole fucking subplot where he's seen for several minutes of every fucking episode in the live-action. Same with Julia; outside of the flashbacks, you don't even see her in the present-tense until episode 25. The live-action completely missed the mark of the original series' subtlety, frankly the writers didn't even know the meaning of the word. Worst Netflix adaptation I've ever seen, and I watched seasons 3 and 4 of Castlevania.

I thought it was kind of bittersweet when, right after Maddie got Caspian back, she said she wanted to go back and relive their time together, starting right before they began to communicate. Then again, Holstrom said that nostalgia is one of the most dangerous things ever, so in a sense, there's a bit of irony there. Maddie's inability to give up on Caspian in the final episode, and her yearning to live their early days out yet again, is because of nostalgia.

This series plagiarizes EVA and Lain.

Yeah, first season is great. Most of 2nd season is just episodic filler, and full of abandoned plotlines.

Go back to Anon Babble

He was right about that and Maddie is in Sanders because of nostalgia.
It references them, same as it does Ghost in the Shell and Paranoia Agent. Apparently too subtle for you.

It borrows from ghost in the shell as well.

EVA walked to Pantheon could run. See also: Likeable characters with good chemistry. Who was even likeable in Eva, again?

you are pretty brave. could you shit on miyazaki too?

Yes.
My grievances with him comes from the quote where he says:

My movies are meant to be watched, not read.

Making him dub-activist.

Howl's is overrated shit. I also almost fell asleep seeing The Wind Rises in theaters.

I would shot on him but his stuff for kids, like Star Wars. Eva is just shit. It's for depressed horny pseuds.

fine, but i unironically think american anime will never be great because they can't really respect a culture of other countries
it's like chinks making rap songs while geneunly looking down on blacks which means they are unmatured after all
i don't really like the french shit but at least they can pretend to respect the culture

I don't even view Pantheon as "American anime," it's just an animated show.

kek okay

Welp. It was a nice thread while it lasted.

Only a little

hur dur.jpg - 1920x3240, 895.64K

The anime references are all over the show. If you have something else to say, just say it loser.

americans see it and can't even admit it's anime-like
you can tell how their views on animations are deeply distorted

It's anime-like but not "American anime."

same shit

damn it's sad af

Impregnating Maddie

Did you finish it?
Valid take either way, the ending was so bittersweet but perfect.

Maybe I'm retarded, but I had no clue what was going on anymore in the finale.

Tee hee have you guys watched this new trannime yet? Haha they're like cartoons but totally not just for kids hahaha

You're
A. Faggot

She didn't deserve to suffer so much.

Pantheon

new

Look, turkey, just because some people recently saw it doesn't mean it's new. Literally came out a few years ago and I just wish I didn't sleep on it. Glad I eventually found it. Point to one comment where anyone said it's "new" in verbatim. No rush, I'll be here.

Just watch the last two episodes again, then think about it for a while. The only part that really made me ponder stuff was Safesurf evolving, coming back, and giving Maddie a little help in finding Caspian.

Tee hee I just said "tranny" on Anon Babble. That means I'm one of the cool guys and everybody is impressed!

The only faggot here is you, buddy.

Humanity was basically living millions of years in the span of a couple centuries of real time. By the end they had become digital gods essentially and were building Dyson spheres around stars just to house and power a single, insanely overclocked uploaded or created intelligence that could accurately simulate several universes worth of basic human lifetimes, just for fun. Maddie was running the same simulation of her life over and over again in order to find the perfect Caspian simulacrum and bring him "back to life" so they could have their happily ever after.

Hey that's fair anon, let me fix my post:

Tee hee have you guys watched this old trannime yet? Haha they're like cartoons but totally not just for kids hahaha

The only faggot here is you, buddy.

Haha yes yes anon, it's the full grown men watching Japanese cartoons that are the cool guys, and jocks and normies who are the fags!

All the main characters are white or light skinned Asians

Absolutely no faggottry

Very few black characters

One of the main villains is a jeet

It's amazing how this board constantly complains about wokeness, DEI, capeshit, remakes, sequels and reboots, but when they're presented with something actually good, somewhat original and completely void of wokeness, they still refuse to watch it because they mindbreak themselves into thinking it's full of trannies or something equally ridiculous.

We're on nu-Anon Babble, my dude. Most of the oldfags who could actually appreciate stuff like this have moved on with their lives, gotten chained down + have kids, etc. Not me, though. I'll always be here.

it's almost like "wokeness" has no bearing on whether something is good or not, and those people just want to be mad at something

The ending is very spiritual. They reference Anon Babble for a reason. Even if God is digital it all just becomes magical at the end and maybe we are at the end already.

So was the whole series a simulation, or was everything we saw before the final episode the first time they've actually happened, and only the redo's in the final episode after Dave's death a simulation? I was leaning toward the latter but now I'm not so sure.
