I can't decide if I like this movie or not

I can tell from the poster I won't.

I'm with you, it's why I gave it a middling score in my personal chart.

Jerome was right when she said it starts off good but the middle gets boring
but the last 20 minutes saves it

It's an excellent movie. You like it

It's boring

So much vile zoomer scum ITT.

kino, even better when you head canonize that Gene's character in Enemy of the State is the same as in The Conversation

It's a very well made film and overall very good but there are some weaknesses with the story and world building in a couple places. Gene does an excellent job.

Watching it in the current year, the most shocking part is that he could afford such a massive apartment in San Francisco.

The ending is one of the best of almost any film I've ever seen.
I can't say anything, I love Le Samourai, and it's a very oppressively slowly paced film.

head canonize that Gene's character in Enemy of the State is the same as in The Conversation

mind blown

The ending is one of the best of almost any film I've ever seen.

dude him tearing up his whole fucking apartment was wild

It is fantastic but It think it is one of those movies that you appreciate more after some time. One of those movies that stays with you after you watch it. It thought it was pretty good after I watched it but months after I watched it I still think about it. The Cure was the same way.

Cure not The Cure

i enjoy what people call "boring movies" like 2001 but The Conversation is boring in the sense that what is happening is not particularly interesting or suspenseful in the way it is told

When the red, red robin comes bop bop boppin’ along

story and world building

what do you even mean by this?
the film's most, and almost its only, significant weakness is pacing—did we really need to spend so long at the convention, or driving to Harry's place, or at the after-party itself? all of that could've and should've been much tighter, but everything else feels pretty close to 'just right'

Those scenes help to show how sad his life is. I didn’t feel the full weight of his misery until that part.

i dont get the ending

it's a bit gimmicky but he realizes he misunderstood who was planning on killing who, the young couple from the park were in no danger in fact they are the ones who were planning to committed murder (He would kill us if he got the chance vs He would kill US if he got the chance)... or are you talking about the phone call and him tearing up his apartment?

can't be, he's not an autist in that one

I (vaguely) remember it being boring as fuck.

He's literally me
Except I'm not good at anything
And I'm not a sugar daddy
And not religious
But otherwise, he's literally me

His employment situation is so shadowy and expounded in bare bones onscreen terms that it's slightly generic. It's an atmospheric movie but that comes from the character study of Hackman's character, not the other people around him or the people he works with.

Like I said, it's a good film but it uses vagueness to its advantage a lot.

its fucking self indulgent shit, i hated it so much. It was also slow and boring. Blow Out is MUCH better

Blow Out > Blow Up > The Conversation

Same dude. Seen it twice, still not quite sure. Same as pic related.

Is it ever made explicit what the couple's plan is? I can't remember it being expounded on beyond some sort of unexplained secret and intent to get one over on someone they both know. I've only watched it once but my recollection is that it was deliberately left ambiguous.

says it was slow and boring

ranks it below blow up which is one of the most tedoius movies ever

it's top tier, grade A kino

The one thing he doesn’t check at the end is the inside of his saxophone. It’s in there Gene, you dumbarse.

No, the call was coming from ____God

yeah that's the point. He didn't want to destroy the one thing he cared about.

Thanks for getting that stuck in my head again.

This might be the most honest no-shit film illiterate board on the net.

If nothing else, the score for this movie is legit 10/10

Crazy that Coppola managed to pump out The Conversation, The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, and Apocalypse Now all within a single decade. They are arguably all 10/10 films, can't think of any other director who can make that claim.

the idea that literally any conversation could be recorded was novel when it came out. now everyone carries high fidelity position trackers and audio recorders in their pockets, and they paid to have them.

It's a great movie but the reveal about what they were saying is such a bullshit asspull. Like the audio quality would have zero effect on where emphasis was, just retarded

uhhh durrr people are different

I don't know man maybe fuck off to reddit where you have downvotes to decide who is stupid or not.

Then you're probably retarded.

A daring synthesis.

It really is fantastic. Same guy did All the President's Men, which also has that dark tone.

That guy looks like the hedgehog, ron jeremy
