If he had a higher stall aftermarket torque converter which is like the first upgrade you do to a car after a camshaft, it wouldn’t have made a difference. the car should have not been powering the driveline at idle. these old cars don’t have locking torque converters

they’re retarded. drag transmission have a neutral safety switch which just means you can’t start the car in gear. drag shifters have a reverse lockout which is a mechanical lever you have to depress while moving the shifter. drag shifters just use mechanical notches and gates on the shifter base/plate to keep from shifting up or down when you don’t mean too because they are a linear shift pattern all the way to park. see my post about the torque converter. these brakes were already fried like others have said
