The Shield

If this show wasn't on baby FX and instead aired on HBO or Showtime, it would be considered by everyone as the greatest TV series of all time. But because it aired on basic cable and they couldn't swear, everyone wrote it off and nobody remembers it.

Previously on The Shield..

They got away with literally everything except saying "fuck". The infamous Aceveda scene alone is more vile than any scene I saw from watching almost all of the landmark HBO series. Plenty of heinous things like that in Sons of Anarchy (also Kurt Sutter writing on FX) too.

you can show a police captain being violently mouth raped by a junkie

you can imply a girl child was raped by a drug lord as punishment for talking to the police

you can show a man poisoning his whole family and then killing himself

you can show the lead guy flaggelating a cartel boss with a chain until he begs for death

you can say nigger, spic, faggot and kike

BUT GOD FORBID YOU SAY THE F WORD

Sopranos was just better and it's stuck at the start of the transition into the era of prestige TV but you're not entirely wrong

scene where Vic busts a cherry poppin' pedo ring

episode when Dutch encounters the couple who kidnapped the woman next door and were cutting her limbs off

scene with Julien sucking cock

I don't believe The Sopranos is better, anon. I really do think the last season, and finale, of The Shield is the best episode of television I've ever seen, by virtue of the emotion it made me feel. Seeing Ronnie arrested and betrayed and sobbing while Vic walked away from him, not having the stones to look him in the eye, made me furious. I thought about it for weeks. NOTHING in The Sopranos made me feel like that. For that scene alone, I give The Shield a 10/10. Poor Ronnie. Worst fate I've ever seen a TV character be handed.

HBO wouldn't allow the cat killing scene. I think this thread is off the mark. The Shield was right where it was meant to be. Look at HBO now. A relic that hasn't produced a single "big" show since Game of Thrones back in 2011 meanwhile FX has taken its place as the premium drama network along with other streamers and networks outpacing it.

Shield is the only series that gets better each season that I can think of, Sopranos consistently better though, Shield ending was incredible

Gotta disagree. Sopranos is more consistent and has higher peaks. But I do remember seeing the ads when it first came out and writing it off as more TV bullshit

doomed to life sentence without parole

being a dirty cop

being used as a scapegoat and tried for crimes you had little involvement in

betrayed by the very same person who acted as your friend and mentor and who prevented you from going fugitive and saving yourself just so he could use you to bust the cartel boss to ensure his own deal while he sold you out

he'll spend the rest of his life seething with anger at Vic's betrayal, powerless to get revenge

The best case scenario for Ronnie is that he's brutally shivved to death by a One-Niner in county. Truly a fate worse than death.

Shield finale was peak tv for me. But sopranos on a whole had much better cinematography

is more consistent

Nonsense. No one thinks this. The Shield is far more consistent tonally and structurally. If you mean "consistent" as in repetive then sure. Each season is just a new mob guy that was never mentioned before coming in, causing upheaveal and then being killed off by the end. The Shield is far more varied in its seasonal storylines and yet consistent in its quality.

higher peaks

Nothing in The Sopranos comes close to Season 3's ending, much less Season 5 with YOU KNOW WHO's death. That's not even touching the finale. Sorry if I seem overbearing but I really do rate The Shield this highly

better cinematography

But it's just one camera pointing at one guy the whole time while he speaks. The Shield uses a far more cinematic guerilla docudrama look to make the series authentic and yet "heightened". Look at this scene for instance. The camera work allows the viewer to feel like they're in the scene. Also the lack of BGM.

shut the fuck up

I'm rewatching it and it has to be one of the greats tv shows of all time. I'm on season 5 and it's still going strong while other shows would be slowing down. I don't know if the network memoryholed it or people just ignore it because it wasn't on a premium channel like you said.

What no one in the thread knows or doesn't admit is that FX has memoryholed The Shield because of George Floyd. The president of FX publicly said they would never revive The Shield because it's a Bush-era TV show where they show blacks and hispanics not as poor little victims but as feral criminals. Which they are.

take your pills schizo
hype or channels never gets into my consideration and i couldn't finish 5 episodes from this show coz of how stupid and beneath an average joe standards

Youre vaxxed

Some idiot who rates The Wire.

its stupid and dumb af like even prison break later seasons mogs it

its better than this garbage thats for sure but also boring
its not even deadwood tier

No one wants to see a bald manlet act tough anymore.

Sopranos is more consistent and has higher peaks

agree
there are many parts of the sopranos that are genuinely moving to me. tony sitting with junior watching that prarie dog documentary asking "don't you love me?" with junior trying not to cry for example
or even the coma dream sequence which everyone hates but I think was one of the best parts of the entire show

SUCK IT

They made you...suck?

Autism?

YOU'RE JUST A NIGGER WITH A FAGGOT NIGGER SON

WE. KILLED. A COP.

THE ARMENIAN MONEY TRAIN

WANT ME TO LICK YOUR BALLS, DADDY?

I'M NOT GAY

THIS GUY IS JUST PISSING ALL OVER US

DUTCHBOY

The scene with Vic and Shane at the end of Season 4, Episode 8 is more emotionally resonant than anything on The Sopranos.

I'M NOT GAY

Man the julian stuff fucking dragged. Also didnt that actor kill someone

It's fine but clearly schlock.

I was never annoyed with his storylines. It proves how good the writers were with making such a cliched trope to fill out time with engaging. Plus, it goes away after Season 2.

>THIS GUY IS JUST PISSING ALL OVER US

based and Kavanaugh pilled

He murdered his wife. Turns out he's gay.

clearly schlock

All movies, TV are fiction. Don't you even dare call The Shield schlock but The Wire elevated. They're both fiction meant to entertain. Or atleast one is. The other just propagandizes.

Would you have taken the gum?

Captain Rawlings was the best captain in the whole series.

She only got shafted because Federal Jews were embarassed by her tiptoeing around them to put a cop killer behind bars, ruining a bullshit immunity deal they cooked with Antown to catch some beaners. She was a great captain and person. The seizure policy worked.

He made you... Post it?

I'm honestly surprised because it doesn't feel like a PG-13 fx show

I started watching the shield but let off somewhere in season 4. I can't remember where.
I want to finish it but don't want to start over.
I don't know what to do.

Watch it from the start again. It's a show that lends itself perfectly to rewatching.

best quotes ever, based show. gonna rewatch it for a fourth watch now.

fourth watch

rookie numbers. i've seen all 7 seasons more times than I could possibly count. best show ever.

he shot his wife after an argument, basically the canon ending to the show version of Julian

The thing that elevates the show for me is the show's B plots are nearly as good as the main show. To me the weakest part of the show is Corrine and Vic's kids.

Do you think Corrine is a hottie? she is some milf material (Shawn Ryan's wife that is) kek. Kurt Sutter and Shawn Ryan have some weird cuck shit going on in their heads.

the Dutch/Claudette criminal-of-the-week plots were really enjoyable and then you get the 10/10 Strike Team drama. amazing stuff. But my favourite plotline was the crazy Armenian feet lover Margos.

She just can't act. Having her act against a titan like Forest Whittaker was hard to watch. They should've gotten a proper actress for a character as important as Vic's wife. Her horrible acting also made the character even more insufferable. On the other end, Mara was a fucking delight. Beautiful face and body. Shane was a lucky fucking hillbilly.

mara's ass.jpg - 436x778, 137.26K

Margos is Kurt Sutter kek

Mara was hot as fuck, she reminds me of Mandy Muse but without the ass

I respect the guy for having the balls to write himself in as a guy on death row who gets cucked, blinded, raped constantly, bites his own tongue off and then is death by cop-ed.

What was the Marilyn Manson plot? wasn't he in there for a few episodes? or am I tripping?

She was beautiful. First time I watched it, I was expecting her to either betray Shane or reveal some ulterior motive but she stuck with him no matter what. A true ride or die woman. I know people think of the ending as tragic but Shane's family was the only happy and loving one in the whole series and they went out together. In its own way, it's a happy ending.
