Metropolis (2001)

This was my ''gateway'' anime. Yep, this. Not Akira, not GITS, not even the fucking pokemon. The visuals blew me the fuck out, the animation was so fluid. I knew right away that this wasn't just some random cartoon.

I prefer the original.

You mean the (((original)))

Lots of overlooked and mostly forgotten gems from early 2000s anime

This

I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU

Late 2000s too.

It's like Vampire Hunter D in that it's shockingly good for how relatively unknown it is

I saw that in cinemas. Such a beautifully animated film. I even got a poster for it when a friend was working at a cinema.

actually one of the greatest anime movies made and sadly so overlooked

I just love pacing of it and it's world. Adult swim played this back in 2005.

Perfect climax song

Watched this back when Cinemax has Anime movies late at night, pretty good.

I was looking up AI movie posters to post in a thread about shitty AI trailers and somehow I saw one for this one oddly enough.

AI movie posters

*vomits*

What the FUCK was his problem!?

they really went hard on the advertising campaign for this, i remember seeing full page ads for it in comics, mags, dvd trailers in 00/01 sometime around there
only finally got around seeing it a few years ago, it was great but it think i still prefer Lang's though

tranime

Go back

He lurked Anon Babble too much

Wherever Mega Man goes, he must destroy Reploids

the original is a manga. this was not based on the western movie. I doubt you liked the manga more

tranime

wrong board, faggot

my main complaint with this movie is how they kept running into each other throughout the movie. this is supposed to be a massive city, not some small place where you see the same people every time you go outside

he wanted his adopted dad to love him

Check out the Director's (Rin Taro) other films Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999, Dagger of Kamui and the entire Space Pirate Captain Harlock 1978 series.

Me too OP actually
But then when I actually went through the gateway I was like "Oh, with very few exceptions the rest of this shit is garbage"
so I went back out

Is this stuff actually good? Looks old aaahhh

(((original)))

That film is honorary Aryan, said by the big guy himself.

I haven't watched Harlock in ages. Always loved the look. I had a small blindbox / gachapon of the Arcadia on my desk in college. I recently saw a VHS of it, but the store said it wasn't for sale. I did find a gorgeous vinyl record of it.
I remember seeing fansubs for it ages ago. I really need to find a copy.

Metropolis was my first legit anime too. Watched it as a teen on Crackle back in 2013.

the original is a manga

I have a copy of Tezuka's Metropolis, flipped courtesy of Dark Horse, and it doesn't hold up very well compared to the movie. It's a good read if you are interested in reading early Tezuka, though.

based and tezukapilled

Watched it as a teen on Crackle back in 2013.

heh that's how I watched it too

fansubs

Corn Pone the only way to go here.

Yes, it actually is.

I thought it was CGI slop when it came out to be honest.
Vampire Hunter D (bloodlus) looks nice but it's fucking terrible. The writing is just awful and really lets it down.

Yes. Genuinely.

Nice share man. I was GITS. Never watched this one (did watch Fritz Lang's in my teenage years, I assumed it is based on that and thought it would be pointless but Im not really sure maybe I'll give it a go, thx)
