Romulus was awful. Notice no one talks about it any more. Instantly forgotten. All the hype was manufactured shill campaigns. Covenant actually was trying something new and had more of the spirit of the original alien.

It also bothered me that they entered the planets atmosphere and immediately saw the base. I mean at least put a line in there how they surveyed the planet in orbit to know where to enter the atmosphere.

I honestly believe Ridley had some good potential of a series in this. His biggest mistakes were pretending it's connected to Alien and letting Lindelof put mystery boxes in it. Ridley wanted a psycho android story and humans meeting an anicent alien creator and being disappointed story. He loves 'meeting makers and being upset' stories.

The only movie I ever walked out on, it was an abomination.

Whomever decided it needed to bear the Alien name was the problem. It's extremely obvious that it has no relation to Alien. However, that decision hamstrung the movie and set it up for failure. No "prequel" and you get:

a different, far more interesting planet instead of barren rock world

not having to crash the alien ship at the end

not having to pretend the engineer was in the space jockey suit

not being confinsed to boring tunnels that had a tiny resemblance to the movie

Instead, the skies the limit where they could have tons of giger-esque monstrous structures to explore. They could have discovered the Covenant 'peaceful' engineers then had the angry engineer show up pissed at the humans. They could have had the black goo other things than make people into xeno shapes

none of that means anything
