Yes. It's hard to imagine an actual zombie apocalypse in a world happening with zombie media culture. It would be impossible for anyone to take anything seriously, because they'd just be thinking of stupid zombie movies. It's scarier and less distracting when there's zero precedence for a cannibal apocalypse scenario (outside of the occasional book nerd saying "Hey this is just like I Am Legend"

L4D also once had a peak player count of 140k, which puts it on the level of Apex Legends and Helldivers 2.
