The main antagonist Jonas actually tries to argue against it, saying the mushroom will only throw the world into chaos. War will get more violent to keep up with the mushroom's healing, cartels will seize it for themselves, and the entire industry will collapse.

I think some have a hard time admitting this is a good show because it is really designed to feel shitty. Shitty animation because real life is shitty now. Shitty characters because that is conveniently standard now with ESG. I actually kinda agree with the last two points, while still liking the show. They are not major flaws. I would have preferred more spice to the story, but then again, I think it wasn't supposed to be that kind of a show. There's no huge mystery or anything to solve.

The one thing I don't understand, though, is calling the animation "ugly". Because I think it's rendered in such a cute and charming fashion, that you don't see something like that often. (The last show with similar charm, was the stop-motion Pokemon show, and even that was in a different medium.)

as much as the character designs are repulsive, I hate the post effects put on top of the animation
the shading, particles, lens flares and bloom
you've got the proper artwork, the stuff that had to be drawn with a pencil (or stylus more likely) and is the heart of animation
but if you dump a bunch of effects on top, you're compensating for the low quality art, and it sticks out to me immediately

Contrary to "graphics don't matter, only the gameplay does" fags, the way something is presented to you will always matter more than how it functions or how it's written or whatever else. If it's fucking ugly it's fucking ugly and that was a choice someone made, so it's not worth bothering with.
