Willing mutilation is much more in character than pointlessly tragic backstory to what is supposed to be pure evil.
Not every villain character needs to be an anti-hero

It's been revealed ages ago you retarded zoomer faggot.

You are brown.

pointlessly tragic backstory

mfw jacking off for the 30th time today

Fucking everyone is a tragic character now. Let Grievous be campy as Lucas intended.

what is supposed to be pure evil

But what about heroes on both sides

as Lucas intended.

Lucas had intended shit yet retard, he was constantly changing his mind on Grievous ( at one point even considered having him turn out to be Maul) and this backstory came out before the movie

Lucas intended Grievous to be a tragic character at first.

Have you heard the Tragedy of General Grievous the Asthmatic?

Believe it or not writers will think of multiple different ideas to use in their story before finally settling on one

initial designes included a regular robot and an evil child with droid bodyguards

He was very obviously just an obstacle for Jedi to fight, all his alt designs point to him having no deep heroic origin

pointlessly tragic backstory

It's a Vader analog you literal retard subhuman slop swallower and on top of that it drives home the flaws of the Republic and the Jedi Council as "impartial" peacekeepers and George's whole "the clone wars situation is Vietnam (and also the Iraq War)" thing.

Believe it or not writers will think of multiple different ideas to use in their story before finally settling on one

Star Wars fans are retards who don't and refuse to understand that.

General Grievous

I never understood this shit. He was never mentioned in the first prequel movie then in the second prequel movie it just acts like you're supposed to already know who this character is.

Believe it or not writers will think of multiple different ideas

No shit retard, way to miss the point. Tragic Grievous came first get over it retard.

The Grievous as depicted in the film (you know, the one that Lucas fucking directed) and 2008 Clone Wars cartoon clearly isn't a tragic character. He's a mustache-twirling cartoon supervillain. Maybe a tragic backstory would've been appropriate for the 2003 Clone Wars Grievous or other Legends stuff, but that's not the Grievous Lucas ultimately went with. Deal with it, faggot

But it was the one he settled on, it was only changed years later in The Clone Wars.
Lucas told the art department Grievous needs to be a cyborg and reminiscent of Vader and has also said Grievous is meant to mirror Vader.

To be fair you need an iq above 50 to understand that
1) General (this means he's army)
2) Grievous (this means bad)
It takes a little extra creativity to put together that since the Jedi don't like him, he's on the side of the droids.

yeah okay man but why is everybody acting like he's a fleshed out character with a real backstory and everything when he's just a throwaway character that only appears on screen for a few minutes?

Because Star Wars fans are autistic and shallow. Same reason they hyperfixated on Boba Fett, and he's even less of a character than Genital Greebers

But it was the one he settled on, it was only changed years later in The Clone Wars.

No, it wasn't. Grievous circa 2004 that was developed by George Lucas for Revenge of the Sith ≠ EU Grievous. Because Lucas did not communicate with the Licensing when developing the fucking movie. They were given early concept arts, and were told to do whatever the fuck they wanted. Never was it ever stated in the commentary for the film, by Lucas personally, in numerous behind-the-scenes featurettes and books, that Grievous ever had a tragic backstory. That was made up by the Licensing.

Another example: the reason for Grievous' cough. When Lucas was developing the character for the movie, the reason for the cough in his mind was because of imperfect cybernetics that were a prototype for Vader. Lucas' Grievous had always coughed. Whereas EU Grievous never coughed. Until the 2D-cartoon, which introduced the retroactive explanation being Mace Windu crushing his chest, or something.

So yeah, Lucas didn't change shit and didn't settle on shit. He was developing the character for his movie/show, and his character was pretty consistent across those things. He can't be responsible for anything else. Stop consuming third-party fanfiction.

Lucas told the art department Grievous needs to be a cyborg

PT side villains weren't set in stone. Ventress almost replaced Dooku.
OG Maul was beta Mother Talzin
This was almost Grievous

Grievous is foreshadowing Vader who is a tragic character and Lucas suggested a tragic backstory to the licensing which means Grievous was a tragic character first.

Never happened. Never was. Never stated anywhere by George personally. Grievous foreshadows Vader in that he is half-organic, half-machine, in that he was the prototype for Vader's perfected blend, not that he is a dollar store copy of Darth Vader character - which EU Grievous was. Licensing made up its own shit, and as usual, they resorted to copying the movies without a thought put into it. Much like they made all of Mandalorians a bunch of colorful Boba Fetts, who do all do bounty hunting, made all Twi'leks slave dancers on a genetic level, made all Bothans spies, all Corellians lucky, etc. Complete creative bankruptcy for the sake of selling merch.

This was almost Grievous

in the behind the scenes of it being revealed to him he makes one comment on it and moves on

This. Grievous willingly, gradually giving up his "humanity" and conceding for mechanical "improvements" for the sake of power is infinitely more interesting and compelling, both on thematic and visual levels, than yet another boilerplate sob story, that not only doesn't understand the core of the character, but in the usual EU fashion, denigrates the Jedi along the way, because everything is morally bankrupt and cynical. Lucas' Grievous is unique, interesting, and serves as a cautionary tale, while at the same time being genuinely entertaining, fun, and subtly foreshadowing Vader without being his cheap copy.

Point is: if that design was submited that means the "George demanded a cyborg" shit was bullshit. It came later after dozen concept artists submited regular aliens 100% inorganic droids

Grievous foreshadows Vader in that he is half-organic, half-machine, in that he was the prototype for Vader's perfected blend, not that he is a dollar store copy of Darth Vader character - which EU Grievous was.

Never happened. Never was. Never stated anywhere by George personally. You see how ridiculous you sound?

and bro-tier

literally no one thinks this
