Superman could go off, James Gunn turned the totally unknown Guardians of the Galaxy into the best part of Marvel. He made Chris Pratt's movie career. He just doesn't fuck things up.

The possible downside is the possibility he might disappear up his own ass. Putting his own dog in the film makes that at least a possibility I'm worried about.

That said James Gunn is the only really earnest Superhero movie maker who was also an honest to goodness comic book nerd. I know this for a fact because we had the same high school film teacher.

jurassic world 4 will win and it's not even a contest, dinosaurs always bring people to theaters, the three previous movies hit +1B at the box office and had really good legs, quality had nothing to do with their success.
on the other hand, capeshit is dying, people only go to see individual projects, not the brand anymore, they don't do their homework either. seeing how thunderbolts is flopping, despite being better than pretty much every marvel movie from the past 5 years, should be a red alert for FF.
Superman will have it even harder because, the plot has already been leaked and it's not good, on top of capeshit fatigue, it already has a lot of active haters campaigning against the project on social media, and possibly its worst contender, will be compared directly to man of steel's and the batman's box office numbers to show everyone whether choosing james gunn was the right call or not, if it doesn't make at least 700M, which is around what the batman did, it's over for james gunn.

the cancer stuff is very recent, since gunn took the reigns and announced his dc universe, lots of rumors started coming out that reeves was getting blocked by warner, that all his ideas were getting rejected under the pretext gunn would use them for his own batman, or directly stolen from him, like the clayface project, I guess that's what they must be referring to.

For a second trailer, 16 million isn't bad at all. The first trailer is always the best metric, and it's sitting pretty with 58 million views. But, you should be cautioned when taking trailer views into account and translating them to dollars. More important would be pre-sales and online engagement. And even those have their limitations.
