True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction were so good that some people thought he'd be a contender for GOAT. I don't know why his early scripts were so fucking good compared to his later work. He was just hungry for success, I guess. But the stuff that's come after has been kinda disappointing.

What people forget is that he was actually a loser for most of his career. Reservoir Dogs was a moderate success, Pulp Fiction was a total smash hit that blew up the world and won him an Oscar, then he does Jackie Brown (great flick, one of his best) but people wanted another PF and that obviously wasn't close, then KB 1 and 2 were hits but once again not really given any critical attention, Death Proof is unobjectionably his worst film, but Inglorious Basterds is what saved him and certified his status. The other three are almost a footnote.
