Thematically it's not as satisfying if Christopher isn't a normal prawn - that he's actually the last member of their master race meant to rule over them. I really think the intention was that he was just a natural outlier.
He has nothing to set him apart from the others morphologically which you would expect in a buglike species with castes. More importantly, you would assume that the master caste would have some biological means to get the slave caste to recognize and serve them.
