One of the craziest parts of the story is that he was originally assigned to a different submarine, but got on the wrong one during the chaos of the escape - the submarine he was meant to be on ended up getting sunk while trying to escape. I meant that as andor shows, the empire wasn't always as (openly) evil as they are by the time of the ghorman massacre, rogue one, and the events of the OT during the full-blown civil war - initially they held up the pretense of being a benevolent agent of security and order, which means many people may have had very good reasons to join the empire initially. by the time of the OT and alderaan's destruction they've very much gone full mask off

to me Syrils character is brilliant because it shows us a man who grew up inside the imperial overton window and is genuinely a good person in that world, and the fact that he is killed just as he wakes up from his societal brainwashing is a lesson to us all. You wont know if you are actually good unless you look to see yourself from an outside vantage point.

one of the best parts of season 1 imo was when they show the early years of the empire when they still used republic clone troopers to police worlds

I'm sure many casual viewers, even if they 'like' syril, will view his death with glee and getting what he deserves, but I genuinely believe that syril may be, at least in his soul, one of the few truly 'good' characters in the show's roster. His death in my eyes is one of the most deeply tragic, someone who did everything 'right' in his own eyes and yet still lost; someone whose final moments were spent realising that he had been an unwilling architect in building a genocide. Seeing him crash out on dedra and on the plaza during the massacre, you see him fully come to understand that HE helped create this horror. And I think that fucked me up, because in many ways that's exactly what could happen to any one of us.

Syril is a grim reminder that just because it is lawful doesn't mean it is moral. A simple fact that 90% of the population ignores in this day and age.

Rogue One is more of an action film so it lacks the intricate details that Andor has. However, if you like things going pew pew, it is amazing. The battle of Scariff has to be top tier in terms of Star War action.

I actually haven't rewatched it since starting andor last year, so take it with a pinch of salt, but I can confidently say that everyting I've seen from andor so far feels like it will make rogue one go from A tier to S tier for me. But don't expect it to be as high-brow or realistic as andor - it's still phenomenal, but it's unfortunately not quite on the level of quality and depth as andor. Wait for S2 to finish and then watch it, but yeah it's awesome. My personal favourite star wars movie of all time controversially

As much as I am exhausted by laser swords, I also have to reckon that an TOR related show would be very good if you had someone good at the helm. The problem isn't the laser swords, the problem is that the laser swords are used lazily by lazy and incompetent people. The Acolyte was terrible, but the fight choreography between it and literally every other Star Wars movie/show isn't even funny. I know that there are contrarians out there who think that the swordplay isn't supposed to be good because it's supposed to be a narrative device. However, I am just going to be frank: that's 100% cope. There's genuinely no reason on a show where the big draw is laser SWORDS (that being the key word here) where martial combat and magic powers are a huge component of the fights that you don't grab the best fight choreographers around. I kept thinking how well the fights were constructed, and how much they clearly made the actors/actresses train for them, but then remembered I couldn't give a shit because I wasn't invested in them. Despite that, I could recognize the quality. The quality was there. Then I flick to Mando, or Ahsoka, or fuckin' any of the last three movies and realize I'm not invested there either but also the fucking fights are unsalvageable at the same time. They can't even make a spectacle. It's a disaster.

I don't know who you'd get to run it, but I'd say you salvage what you could from The Acolyte's stunt and fight teams, and build from there. Disney's rep and money machine means you can get anyone you want to act in your show, so that's not even a tertiary concern. You need a good showrunner, and you need at least two good writers. If you can somehow find these gems, then everything else will work out.

A TOR show in the vein of Andor is the one thing I want to see before I pass on from this mortal coil.

People say Andor is great because of no force wielding Jedi or light sabers. But in my mind that is the only way to get to the next level beyond Andor. To take the franchise to it's ultimate level they need to integrate the Jedi and the force in the style of something like Andor and make it believable. While keeping all of the intricate craftsmanship and layered characterization of Andor. This is what SW needs to reach it's ultimate form. I truly believe this and feel it in my bones

One thing I have always hoped for was to see a KOTOR remaster; and that died. So then I was left with fantasies of them making a show, or a series of films out of the events of the first game. If done correctly, you could really fuck up the average Onions War's watchers heads by hiding that Revan is the MC the whole; they just don't know it. It'd just require them working around certain dead giveaways from the game that would let anyone definitively clock it (copy the homework, but different). However, Disney have shown they'd sabotage any endeavor to hide this based on what they did with Thunderbolts (immediately changing the branding to the New Avengers the day after the movie came out). Futile dream, but a dream nonetheless.
