but did you like it?

was there even any blood in this movie? I don't remember

There was

its says there will be, it doesn't say in the movie.

I drink your milkshake. What's not to get?

Dudes greedy. Nothing more to get

yes but the main character is probably one of the most evil people I've ever seen in a movie. Is that it? There are terrible, evil, people that get to do whatever they want and get away with it? I just don't understand why it's so highly praised. The final scene is very good though so I can understand walking away with just that in mind.

nigga loved to compete, he had to win nahmean

mostly i just think it is a very well written and performed film. but as far as meaning, the popular analyses seem to view it as a dialectic between american christian values and capitalism. probably essays out there that could do that more justice than i could.

he literally did nothing wrong and was an actual hero

what's not to get

What flavour though?

yeah this makes a lot of sense. I agree that it is very well acted. Maybe it didn't age very well because I feel like that dichotomy between manifest destiny capitalism and love thy neighbor has been a part of America's public conscious for as long as I've been alive. Anyway I just made the thread to figure out if I was missing something and I guess I didn't.

dichotomy between manifest destiny capitalism and love thy neighbor

The film is pretty explicit. The capitalist builds schools and lifts the town out of poverty, the preacher just mooches off everyone

yeah I forgot the part where he helped nail in the studs for the school and totally built the water well and brought farming and agriculture to the county that he'd promised. Oh wait they are totally dependent on his oil money and when it dries up it's fucking over and all his money goes to his famil- he doesn't have one whoops. Well at least he made sure car companies got highways made instead of railways. Think of the productivity that could've been lost by making one train instead of 1000 cars!

Civilization and prosperity is built on the backs of evil men.

the oil was the blood of the earth which represents daniel's soul

no there was actual blood, multiple times, you stupid nigger frog
I'm going to leech toxins in the enviroments you live in and watch as your little tadpoles croak their final breath and then make sure they know what fear is as I squish them one by one.

a-are you drinking my milkshake right now?

Ok i got it this time. The blood was the milkshake that daniel sucked from eli like a vampire. It's quite genius really.

I'm a Europoor and I've never had a milkshake in my entire life.

hubris

is capitalism and religion fighting for the sould of the land and its people. In the end capitalism wins by bringing down religion to his level.

He literally, LITERALLY, built his entire empire from the dust. Put tall the work in, raised the capital, did all the r&d, etc. etc. Every single solitary person in the film that he took issue with, was someone who was trying to leech off of what he had built, whether it was a bunch of soft-handed oil tycoons, a charlatan preacher, or some phony masquerading as his brother. He's "evil" because he wanted the very sweat from his own brow & rightly saw parasites & ass-clingers for what they were?

I'm going to leech toxins in the enviroments you live in and watch as your little tadpoles croak their final breath

They just turned gay, anon....

a charlatan preacher, or some phony masquerading

can I ask why you included these when the main character of the movie explicitly lied to those characters multiple times with dramatic music accentuating his lies?
Am I talking to a human being?

All I care for in this movie is the son and daddy issues because specifics is what interests me, screw politics

All I care for in this movie is the sociopolitical aspect, screw politics

CAPITULISM... IS LE BAD!!!

I don't get it

You're not an oil man; you wouldn't.

It's about the duality of man, unironically.

my brother watched this when he was a baby

calm down ayn rand

Clasic Paul Dano

did he enjoy it or is was a filtered midwit

Good triumphs over evil. The strong, atheistic, capitalistic businessman, who works up an objectively useful resource which has intrinsic value and which literally extends life and improves quality of life, defeats a weak, mentally ill man who presents himself as a religious authority and who, by the very nature of his own profession, in fact provides nothing of any real value to anyone at all.

holy fucking actual libtard
I knew it was an Ayn Rand movie
according to libertarians it is ok to:

rape and murder their own mothers (If I was not allowed to do this it would only be because a higher power was stopping me from doing it)

poison their water supply (I am simply maximizing productivity)

literally rape children (It's ok because if I couldn't do this it would be infringing on my personal freedoms)

Dumb esl poster

Why did Eli's twin send Daniel to his family's house and then never show up in the movie again?

he enjoyed it because he was more mature than other babies

cause he went somewhere else to become an oil tycoon himself. had to effectively sell out his own family to do it. i think he is supposed to sort of mirror daniel.
