This was after an already unpopular war in Vietnam. Many soldiers, who were already trying to process what they were even trying to accomplish in the first place, came home to people calling these veterans "baby killers" & "monsters" & so on. A guy like John Rambo is only a catalyst for the inert Vietnam veteran. He's not a man who deserves praise but to be understood.
