Let's be honest, Con Air isn't exactly high art. But what it lacks in subtlety, it more than makes up for in sheer, unadulterated, over-the-top awesomeness. This is a movie that revels in its own absurdity, a glorious blend of action, drama, and Nicolas Cage at his most gloriously unhinged.

Cage plays Cameron Poe, a former Army Ranger wrongly convicted of manslaughter, who's finally granted parole. His journey home, however, takes a detour when the plane he's on is hijacked by a group of notorious convicts. What follows is a non-stop barrage of explosions, gunfights, and Cage delivering lines with the kind of intensity that only he can muster.

The supporting cast is equally fantastic, featuring a veritable who's-who of 90s action movie stars, each chewing the scenery with gusto. John Malkovich, John Cusack, Ving Rhames – they're all here, playing some of the most memorable (and ludicrous) villains ever committed to film.

The action sequences are undeniably cheesy, but they're also incredibly entertaining. There's a certain charm to the over-the-top violence and the impossibly improbable stunts. The film never takes itself too seriously, and that's part of what makes it so enjoyable.

Con Air isn't a perfect movie. The plot is predictable, the dialogue is often clunky, and the characters are sometimes one-dimensional. But these flaws are easily forgiven, thanks to the movie's infectious energy and its unwavering commitment to pure, unadulterated entertainment. It's a guilty pleasure, a movie you can watch and enjoy without needing to analyze it too deeply.

Is it a masterpiece? Probably not. But is it a ridiculously fun, action-packed ride that's guaranteed to leave you entertained? Absolutely. If you're looking for a mindless action flick with plenty of Cage-ian craziness, then Con Air is definitely worth checking out. It's a cult classic for a reason.

wrongly convicted of manslaughter,

was he wrongly convicted? I thought the argument was that because he was so trained that he shouldve had more restraint than to cause a death, hence manslaughter and not murder or self-defense

Yeah he was wrongly convicted

t. Egbert

yeah well that's exactly the kind of movie they for some reason cant make anymore today

This and The Rock were my go to rentals from my library

It pulls off being self aware without being pretentious and try hard.

make a move and the bunny gets it

What was he trying to do here?

I wish they'd do a HD release of the extended version. Probably won't happen though.

Its so cute when zoomzooms find out about meh movies from the 90s.

the last one was too sad for my taste. also too woke. but whatevs, good run overall.

I liked how malkovich took on the role in con air. he got the script, noticed that the characters were all named after romantic poets and didnt read further but threw the script in the corner

"i didnt have to read it, I'm doing it"

Even going into knowing it was going to be bad, it still wasn't bad in an enjoyable way. It's just plain bad.

This is a reddit post, isn't it?

I didn't read all that, but Con Air is high kino. It straddles the line between parody and pure appreciation perfectly.

No, while I understand you're used to content from there being recycled here as if it's new and unique. That's just my genuine take on the movie.

Oh, good to know.

Also, I didn't read it, and you're gay.

All fields.

I don't care if you read it or not, you still bumped my thread.

tango & cash

Go to bed Toby

it's so sad when ageing losers lash out at younger people in jealous fits of rage

What do you gain from a thread bump? A couple YouTube clicks? Your existence is a sad and miserable one.

What did you steal this from it sounds half doug walker half something else

I'm pretty content with what I have going on desu

It's my own review.

It's definitely not. You've taken the same consensus from every reviewer out there

Not reading all that but entertainment is good, art is fucking gay and this movie is incredible.

ridiculously fun

not a masterpiece

That's the definition of a masterpiece.

You asked where I stole it from, I wrote it myself. That would make it my own review, doesn't matter if it happens to share opinions with someone else. Not really sure what you're trying to tell me here.

he was wrongly convicted because the dude came at him with a knife so he was defending himself from a deadly weapon, but the dudes buddies hid it so that it looked like he killed an unarmed guy

Con Air isn't exactly high art

correct, it's better than high art

Terminator

He was le crazy

Its weird how Hollywood could just put out a film like this back then like it was nothing
"Oh here's a dumb Nic cage action flick"
and some how its better made than modern Oscar winners
Hollywood really lost all of its professionalism after the 2007 writers strike

a judge in a southern state convicting a war hero veteran of manslaughter for defending his wife from armed attackers.

You should have to play fair with people attacking you because you know kung fu and they don't

More enjoyable =/= better. It's like enjoying a burger or fish fingers or chicken nuggets, it's not haute cuisine

More enjoyable equals better, correct.
