The Rehearsal

what you're about to see is weird

i showed my dad the moments of Sully and being a baby and he got mad and said that "this guy is a demented fuck"

I mean, if you weren't familiar with Nathan, it would definitely come across that way. this probably isn't the work I would introduce people to him with.

Retard, of course he did
It was completely out of context
This shit is barely funny in a vacuum. It needs the context of what the feilder method is, what the concept is that he's executing, etc.
You cant just show this to someone who hasn't seen the rest of the show first
If this was my introduction to nathan's work I would also be revolted

yeah, this is not entry-level Nathan. this is like a band's late-career experimental album. you gotta build up to it.

Tell him he's a filtered retard

he's seen most of nathan for you and a bunch of the first season of The Rehearsal. knew the entire plane premise of this season too. He just doesn't seem to like the guy, because he's called him sick before

I wonder if some people watched this scene and didn't even think about the practical effects involved? like that's a huge part of the gag but even with the people controlling the puppet i'm sure some people don't even think that is funny or interesting

He was missing the clone dog rehearsal prelude
The baby sully bit makes sense when you understand that this worked on a dog

well to be fair I love Nathan but sometimes I think he might be a little sick too, but that's part of the fun. he keeps you on your toes wondering if he's just a comedic genius or a sociopathic weirdo.

from the depraved mind of Nathan

meant for

The reality is that he's both desu

Boomers idolize Sully. It's typical boomer behavior to worship people who make the news for something vaguely positive so long as they aren't black. This episode takes the piss out of his book and movie pretty hard, so it makes sense that a boomer would get pissy and salty about it. Also, they don't understand millenial humor in the slightest.

i was having a simmilar discussion with a friend of mine i showed Nathan For You while it was still running.
There's 4 seasons of backstory you have to contextualize to even understand the rehearsal, im suprised a show like this got a second season but im glad it did

your father is antisemetic, you should educate him on the holocaust

yeah, i think this is probably what it mainly is. he's getting up there in age and rarely finds movies or tv shows funny anymore. even classic movies he used to love he just gets annoyed by. he said Ghostbusters was dogshit recently and turned on Law and Order instead

He cant
Summit ice episode was scrubbed from paramount+

im suprised a show like this got a second season but im glad it did

not only that, but somehow got a massive budget and total creative freedom. somebody up high must really like Nathan.
but yeah I love how his work builds on itself. I feel like this season not only builds on NFY and the first season of the Rehearsal, but is also enhanced if you watched the Curse too. I love the Nathan Cinematic Universe.

this dude balding

He's literally just filtering himself

Redpill me on the curse

This season has been the funniest thing Nathan has ever done, and that is an incredibly high bar to clear. I haven't laughed this hard at anything in years. And at the same time, it's also clearly got a goal behind it to make a genuine difference. His point and monologue towards the end of the episode about pilots needing someone to talk to because the FAA makes it impossible for them to seek out help for mental and emotional health struggles is extremely real and I'm glad someone is trying to tackle it. Bonkers twist of fate that he's the one to do it, but changes need to be made with the medical regulations and he has the platform to make it happen.

he has the platform to make it happen.

Nobody watches this show except for you and me.

would love to see a full length movie like this

Nathan Fielder is a cocksucker for not doing the universe a favour and sticking a knife into that bitch's neck

Get ready for the 2.5h long rehearsal of nathan becoming osama bin laden

there are dozens of us!

What are you, underage? Who watches media with their father?

Which bitch?

I don't even know how to describe it, just watch it if you like Nathan. it's incredibly uncomfortable, it will have you squirming, but it pays off.

i go over to their house every monday for dinner and to hang out. what's wrong with that?

might be relevant since osamas parents both died in separate plane crashes

It's literally about a cucked leftist trying and failing to find the balls to be the man in his relationships.

Nathan will not play Osama, but he will defeat Osama in single-handed combat.

How will Nathan change history? You're right that'll rehearse someone famous, but so far you're way off the mark.

What I find most funny is how it effortlessly builds off of concepts in the first season that were only a few scene bits. Like when he rehearsed with a doll six year old, or had an adult play the role of six year old joshua.

a part of me couldn't shake the feeling that I was acting with an adult man

*cut to the actor in overalls smoking a cigarette outside*

Without saying it directly, the lesson he took from that part of the rehearsal was that he didn't go far enough. Him being a baby with a 15 foot tall paper mache doll is an excellent reversal and evolution of that previous concept
The problem now is that I genuinely cannot see where he can go next. There are no limits on his autism, but there are limits on my understanding of his autism

nathan's going to fielder method marky mark

My dad would have loved it lmao your dad sucks

It IS demented to roleplay as a hairless baby as a 40+ yr old man. That's the point of the scene.

the hand touch fucking sends me. sometimes i wish i had the freedom to act surreal and weird irl. just doing things just to do them.

The shit Nathan does would actually be less weird if it was a sex thing.

he said Ghostbusters was dogshit recently and turned on Law and Order instead

im afraid that this will happen to me one day too.
My dad used to be so cool, bro was a pc gamer in the 90s before it was popular. He's how i found out about half life and duke nukem.

Now he's retired and all he does is watch NICS and reruns of MASH and andy griffin and reload bullets(that part's cool tho cuz i get free ammo)

leftist

Is his character really into taxing the wealthy or something? I'm gonna guess you mean he's a progressive

its easy to edit together a montage of pilots babbling about mental health to feign your tv show having a "point"

little touches like that make me wonder how much Nathan actually immerses himself in this stuff. like, did he just dress up as Sully to film the bits for the show, then take it off and go home? or did he spend days or weeks like this actually trying to get in his mind? how much of it didn't we see? I genuinely can't get a read on him and how much of it is genuine

Rewatching nathan for you and I geniunely don't know how they got this to air. I know the kid wasn't in the room while the pornstars were going at it but even setting up the context is so jewish and diabolical. Fucking amazing lmao

hotel box.jpg - 854x480, 49.94K

is it that easy? how much footage of interviewing pilots where they talk about their mental health do you have?

agreed, this always felt like one of his riskiest bits to me. it's up there with the Claw.

They don't actually have to be pilots, you can pretend they are in the voiceover

I'm sure they film for "shots" when it's bits that are Nathan-only, a little more scripted and structured than things like the dog clone thing. That being said I do believe he just walks into set with that same demeanor and genuinely commits to whatever bit he's doing. There's lots of stories from people who worked on Nathan for You who say that he's no different on camera than he is IRL.

Kinda borders child endangerment and grooming in a way. The claw thing was a little less weird since the robot 100% was not going to expose him. But it's still funny how all of these parents willingly signed on to letting their children possibly be exposed to sexual shit like this for money/fame, what the fuck lmao

Wdym? The robot was going to expose his penis to the audience if he didn't escape the handcuffs in time. That was the whole premise!

fell for masterclass editing

I don't think they'd even risk that possiblility, either the claw was controlled by someone behind the scenes, or was never designed to pull his underwear strap down in the first place. At 2;16 you can kinda see the robot stalling and doing nothing before he got the handcuffs off: youtu.be/xRxAkNvnxhI?si=LreKHla1cChzelQg&t=136

Nathan was just too fast for it bro
He saved himself
He would be in prison right now if he had failed!

Sully was an evanescence fan

Who would have thought

What profession should Nathan target next?

Is the evanescence song funny itself or is it the fact that a boomer listening to it is funny? Those music scenes cracked me up more than anything in s1

It's funny for a boomer to be listening to it but also sad if he felt it was his only outlet

teachers. Nathan interacting with kids is a goldmine

both. the song itself has kind of become a meme so it has funny associations. the fact that a straight-laced boomer listened to it is icing on the cake.

Why didn’t sully just talk to his mom about his feelings? That’s what they’re for

it's crazy how much better this season is than the last one. barely feels like the same show

S1 couldn’t get out of the shadow of the Kor episode. That was a legitimate 10/10

he was too busy sucking

milk.png - 1133x536, 1.15M

wake me up

it feels like season 1 was just a test run to see what worked and what didn't. a high concept premise like this needs some refinement. I think covid didn't help either, probably derailed some of his plans.

You could make a whole comedy episode about the pilot who’s been banned from every dating site. Why the hell would you mention that and the fact you’ve been duped by trannies on tv?

The evanescence bit is the least funniest thing he's done. Redditors itt

it was exactly...

no, dont say it. dont say it.

23 seconds...

NOOOOOOOOOOO

that's kinda nice actually, I wish I wanted that.

I showed my mother some Nathan for You and she said "good lord this man is autistic"

he's probably playing it up BECAUSE he's on tv. some people just have no shame and will say whatever it takes to get their 5 seconds of fame.

Thats all i could think about. How they are painting those horses on the wall and each 1 is the side of half a person. It must he so much fun writing this show and spending hbo money

nah

Remember in episode 1 when Nathan was worried this topic wasn't going to be funny?

The parents' limbs are the creepiest fucking costumes I've ever seen. These are literally how my sleep paralysis demons look like. Fuck

well hes like clearly an idiot. hes middle age, notice the unnecessarily tight shirt. notice that nathan paired him and the female pilot who had the highest feedback from the singing auditions. he was super awkward and even she had a hard time dealing with him.

Is he going to put that guy through the sully program?

He did Beau is Afraid but far more entertaining

It's because it's a very long-standing meme song
It's good in it's own right, but it's infamous for the teenage angst emo connotations and all of the late 2000's youtube videos it gets used in. The peak of this being

youtu.be/6YsNRnZRgg8?si=QfMoYJK54e42qFMz

So yes, the fact that someone outside of the normally understood demographic is a big fan is part of the humor, but the peak joke here is that nathan is theorizing that sully was listening to it exactly as they were performing the crash landing into the river. The chorus playing and drowning out the other sounds in the cockpit was fucking brilliant man

True, but the rest of the show was still also VERY good. Scion is a perfect episode.

the peak joke here is that nathan is theorizing that sully was listening to it exactly as they were performing the crash landing into the river

what makes it so great is that it's actually somewhat believable. Nathan has a point, in that you kind of expect pilots to be perfect human beings who would act calmly and rationally in a scenario like this, but at the end of the day they're just human beings. at that moment, Sully would have been pumped full of adrenaline, unsure if his manoeuvre was going to work or if those were going to be the last moments of his life. it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that in that moment he might have made an emotionally-driven decision to listen to a song close to him.

of course, the evidence is flimsy and obviously Nathan picked and chose elements of the story for the purpose of crafting a punchline. it's probably not true. but it's the fact that it plants that little seed of "ok, but what if?" in your head that makes it so brilliant.

I'd love for the real Sully to see and comment on this episode.

The ipod in the cabin catch and the 23 seconds were amazing. It makes total sense to have them plugged in and be listening while nothing was happening until the birds decided to attack the plane
He was probably doing a run through of the whole album lmao

no one mentioning how a couple spent over 50K cloning a dog three times

This is more batshit than anything Nathan did in the episode.

the dog couple could have been a whole episode to themselves. the episode just had so much going on that by the end you almost forget about them

Really hard to see this picture and not think he was shrunken. It was a bit less uncanny in motion

3.6 Roentgens. Not great. Not terrible.

Somehow I feel the plane people taking nathan serious would get a really long look on their face if they saw this is part of his project. Anyways that doll is waaay creepy it somehow distracted me from the absurdity

Good thrillery psychological leftist satire. That said I prefer his reality TV for most part

the sad thing about this show is that it lets ordinary people be honest. 50k is a small amount for 3 dogs.
I think that the husband just didnt feel comfortable having kids. and thats actually much more depressing. because its so obvious to us, and weve only seen them for minutes.
shes 39 now. theyre never gonna have kids.

I didn't mind it but I certainly don't think it's as funny as everyone else. I know it's a meme song but it's just unsurprising that a normie in the mid 00s would like the song and the scene is kinda half baked

Nigga it's maximum uncanny in and out of motion

That's why I liked John Wilson's show. Full of "normal" people with absolutely absurd elements in their lives like an old man who castrated himself with a razor blade

The fact they didn't get a whole ep is why S2 is superior. S1 might have given them a full ep and it would've felt like it was searching, thankfully this ep moved on the moment it was losing steam

the scene is kinda half baked

disagree, I think the build up and payoff was really well done. but that's just me.
what's funny about Sully liking it is just the contrast with what kind of person we know him to be. he's an older southern, straight-laced professional with military background. Evanescence is a band you associate with emo kids and youtube edits. like yeah it's a normie song, but normie is a spectrum. it's not entirely surprising that he liked it - after all, it was popular - but it's just out of place enough to take you off guard.
