I've decided to watch The Mentalist. What am I in for?
I've decided to watch The Mentalist. What am I in for?
Mentalism
i've thought about watching this
but after watching psych, and more importantly, monk
i think i've seen all the mind-kino i need to see
Is Monk better than Psych? I love psych
psych is good
monk is great
The Mentalist
it might not be as funny as Psych, but it's the better detective show
Who would win? Monk vs Psych vs Mentalist vs Columbo?
I figured out the big reveal for The Mentalist way early on and it kind of ruined the rest of the show for me. If you're looking for some comfy procedurals, it's an okay show, but it's got big "high intelligence is basically magic" energy sometimes.
What was the big reveal? Was the mentalist really red john? I stopped watching it pretty early because I wanted a procedural, not a procedural that was trying to be different with an ongoing storyline involving some unseen bad guy.
I figured out the big reveal for The Mentalist way early on
they didn't even know until the final season. way to out yourself, pseud
my exgf was a huge Psych and Monk fan. and then evetually a Wings fan when they had the one crossover episode with Tim Daley
FOKKIN MENTOL
||He doesn't actually have psychic powers, he's just trained to be hyperobservant||
Stop after season 3
Red John is a guy you see in the first episode of the show, and comes back periodically throughout. It's pretty easy to tell because he appears to be scoping out the protagonist for no reason way early on and it's never addressed in the resolution of the episode so I said "oh, that's mighty suspicious" and I confirmed it the next time he appeared because why else would this guy show up again.
It's comfy. My top 1 background noise
That's no reveal, Jane spends the entire show insisting seers and the like are just scammers.
comes back periodically throughout
literally doesn't come back until the final season (FBI season doesn't exist, ok). along with a few other literally who characters that patrick has rubbed shoulders with (because the critical clue is that RJ is someone he has met before). you are a pseud retard.
I'm on season two and I love it. Best when it's as simple as getting Jane into a place like casino or a prison and letting him mess with people there. Don't really care for the overarching stuff and the impression that I get is that it's for the best that I don't care.
Lisbon is Red John.
This shit was...like 1/3 good? Essentially it's just your average ensemble-style "crime solver show with a quirky main character who has some sort of in-built superpower to solve every case in his special way", a la Monk, Sherlock, whatever. It's got the main guy, his female FBI not-girlfriend, and then a cast of goofball-but-sometimes-serious agents who do the shooting of bad guys. All of that stuff is very bland, not interesting, nothing new there.
The interesting-ish part is the main character's obsession with a secret Moriarty-type serial killer who killed his family, so there's a through-line of him trying to piece together who that is. It's interesting in that it's sort of the only time this "loveable goofball" main character actually becomes serious and often self-destructive in his pursuit.
The problem is, the show literally doesn't pay off the mystery at all and from what I vaguely recall the villain guy literally dies, and then...instead of ending the show just picks up after it except now the character doesn't have his cast of friends anymore and instead of helping the FBI for fun and to find the killer guy, he's forced to do it against his will, which I think is the last season of the show, or at least it peters out and dies unceremoniously shortly after that because the seasons got shorter and they couldn't figure out what to do with it.
kino of the highest order
unironic Psych fans
Next you'll tell me you guys like both seasons of White Collar and all 4 seasons of Chuck.
The Shield > Commish > Monk > ST DS9 > Chips > Mentalist
Simple as
its background noise for adults, you wouldnt get it
someone somehow knows and tips them that the murderer will be at a bean eating contest
Jane notices something far away and unnecessarily slips into the competition behind the security's back even though he could just go in normally
his colleagues show up 20 seconds later because they're police and can just go in
Lisbon and crew shows up
Jane is talking to a man
Lisbon says blah blah protocol
Jane asks Lisbon if this man's shoes aren't too nice to be in a bean eating competition where bean can easily be spilled
Jane brings his head close to the man's butt
Lisbon looks disgusted
Jane looks smug asking how he there isn't a lingering fart noise if he participated in the bean eating contest and the man's pants are actually made of blah blah which would trap fart inside
plus his shoes are too nice for a bean eating contest
man suddenly tries to run away
asian and white police dudes arrest him
Every episode.
Comfy show and Robin Tunney a cute.
whistles for a magic clue
I liked the characters in The Mentalist. I think the cast carried it.
No you didn't, because the writers didn't even know.
Great show until they catch Red John. Lisbon is a sexpot, and their relationship is very sweet. Van Pelt is also a big qt especially since she's Christian. Shame they don't focus on Lisbon's hairy forearms more.
None of this is actually true, you just read the wiki about it and misunderstood it lmfao.
Like a lot of shows like this it has to establish itself in it's own little way. Monk had Le Quirky OCD, Pysch had the Peter Pan syndrome lead and The Mentalist has the tortured genius.
There are some shit episodes and the last season, maybe last 2 aren't worth it. After they finally get red john you aren't gonna be missing much, but it's a comfy watch.
I've always liked the ambient synth music in it. It made it stand out a bit more. But I've only seen a couple of episodes, don't know if they stuck with it.
robin tunney has a great rack, but the star of the show is her fat brapper in tight jeans
I wish cops and detectives were as cool. and competent as they are on tv.
Psych minus the jokes and chemistry
Can you enter a mind palace Anon Babble?
I can't, too poor.
the mentalist
the pianist
the brutalist
What are some other list kinos?
I figured out
you did not lmao
the schindlerslist
Anyone else thought this show was about the most mental retard in the world?
Hence the name "The Mentalist" (most mental)
Britbongistans need not apply.
The last seasons are just a pretext for Jane to get his happy ending. It's basically tumblr shipping fanfic tier and I love it
They didn't write who Red John was until the last season. Before that Simon Baker voiced Red John to confuse the audience.
Psych isn't funny anyway
