The original Prom Night is a rather mid slasher with bland kills, mostly salvaged by the fact the original soundtrack has some really good disco tracks made for the movie.
That and the fact the killer is a retard flopping all over the place which fits since it's just a normal guy and not some supernatural evil being or ninja
Prom Night 2 is definitely much better but it also has zero to do with the original and was only named so for brand recognition. It's basically a supernatural slasher with some really nice effects and kills and set design.
