A lot of the people who pushed for the ideology had their start in the fallout of the Vietnam War when communism was popping up all over the place, and they felt like the Democratic Party wasn't hardline enough to stop it, so they courted the Republicans as they gained momentum. Soon these people were in high places and had influence in DC. So when they America invaded Afghanistan, they saw it as an opportunity to turn a backwards, bombed out shithole into a democracy. They failed, but that happened later. They saw Saddam as the inhibitor of terrorism in the region. He wasn't. Iraq became the posterchild for American misadventures as a result. Those people who pushed for the war slowly faded themselves out and got cushy jobs.

I can't think of a movie that actually does the topic justice.

As far as the movie goes, it’s pretty good for a quick and easy 90 minutes as far as war movies go. Although I may be heavily biased due to adoring GWOT aesthetics. Also, the film has fantastic sound design for the guns. One thing Civil War did amazing was the sounds of the guns and that was the big thing I was expecting out of this movie. Safe to say, I wasn’t disappointed.

The CIA did everything they could do to find a probable clause to take Saddam out. They would take guys from Al-Qaeda and other Islamist groups and torture them until they gave shit up. Now, Afghanistan was the CIA's baby during the 80s, so they knew all the big names and fractions and what not. But they didn't know anything about Iraq because they never established intelligence there, so they had no idea to gauge the people there. Which is what made the decade after 2003 a complete shitfest. All the people who let their happen have never faced the consequences of their actions and live in the public today.

I can't think of a movie that tackles this. Almost all the Iraq War movies are SEAL shit.
