Recent pickups

yawn. buying movies no one has ever heard of isn’t a substitute for a personality.

criterion

I thought they only do fancy movies why uncut gems is that ?

Uncut gems was a great movie.

too much common pleb shit. only risky and after hours are worth the upgrade.
way better

Radiance > Criterion fight me

It's just a stack of movies I picked up recently. If you're unfamiliar with them, just try watching one. Here's a shelf with more mainstream stuff ...if that helps.

It's a wild ride, like Wheels on Meals with Vampires.

No argument here, friend. Criterion has fallen off hard, while Radiance is swinging for the fences every month.

I think Lynch and Anderson are single handedly keeping these guys in business

If part of the appeal is owning the cover art then why would you pick criterion?
Also don't they have hit or miss color grades?

maybe true. The last criterion I bought was the inland empire blu ray

still buying standard blu rays

Ick.
They should put out more UHD's. I can't waste money on 1080p.

once the internet is out

What kind of third world country do you live in?

Can I come over to your house and jerk you off while we watch kinos then steal some of your blurays as I leave?

I fantasize about surviving an apocalypse, and my movie/book collection serving as the cultural base of the new world.

Clearly America

Just got some stuff in from Gruv and Criterion

Just bought SpongeBob physical because I found out they're taking away episodes on steaming

I can't into Wes Anderson. Why is this?
Do I have to be gay or something?

And to contribute to the thread, I bought picrel but it's still shipping

Anyone have trouble with Warner Bros DVDs recently? I saw the articles on disc rot and checked my collection, I've got almost 200 WB discs from the time period in question. I've only played a few dozen or so since the news and haven't found any with problem.

filtered by a sub-90-minute Adam Sandler romcom

Based Fukasaku enjoyer. I haven't picked those up yet because I'm still catching up on all the modern releases of his stuff we've been getting in the last couple years. There are even more coming this year. I feel like this is the best time to be a fan aside from actually being in Japan when he was still putting several movies in theaters each year.
I wonder if Criterion is going to try rounding out the Lynch catalog without him. From my understanding, he had been personally buying back the rights to his movies and then going to Criterion to produce the discs the way he wanted. There aren't many left so I'm sure it's possible for them to get all of his features under their roof, but I wonder if they'd be willing to spend the money knowing they can't even sell the last ones as director approved editions.

All that's left from Lynch is Wild at Heart, Dune, and Straight Story. WaH already got a pretty good release from Shout Factory, but it's an MGM movie and Criterion has a good relationship with them so I could see a 4K coming. Arrow just did a 4K of Dune, so I don't think Criterion has any reason to do a release. SS is Disney and they very rarely work with Criterion. I think there's only one Disney in the whole collection (Wall-E).

I can't really get into most Wes Anderson films either. The only I really like (and own) is Grand Budapest Hotel. Pic is my haul from a few recent shopping trips. The whole lot cost me about $150: $25 for the Criterion (50% off sale) was the only new new disc I got. Several others were new used (second hand stores but still wrapped). The Sidaris collection was a whopping $5. The price per pound of tit must be in the pennies lol. The classic films are always hardest to find so I am always happiest to find them. The Northern Exposure season 1 is wrapped in a life preserver. LOL.

Oops. My photo skills suck. I cut off the top of the dvd stack: Xanadu! The original release. It was $1 so wth not? Olivia-Newton John is a cutie/hottie in that one.

dodsworth is based. better than wes anderson sloppa

baneposting was mentioned on a special feature

Kiss of Death

Present.
No Country looked great in 4k. Im holding out on the wes anderson until 4k.

The thread for poors is that way

Yeah that's the film I've been happiest about finding in that batch (used for $3 at Goodwill) since it's not only old but obscure. Mary Astor is terrific in it (as usual for her).

I can't into Wes Anderson. Why is this?

Do I have to be gay or something?

No, you have to be a native Texan like Wes himself. His films are heavily Texan-coded.

Criterion (when possible) get their prints approved by the cinematographer or director, the ones that people have disliked the colour gradings on were when the dir/dp have changed their mind about how they want the film to look.

Llamas with hats.

Kino.
