The conflict starts when the character is thinking about paying taxes. The conflict is resolved by the character realizing they should say no to all the opportunity they have and say yes to taxes.

Nah they are all like that. However I think it’s more about how their parents often never tell their children that they are proud of them rather than resentment over having to study for 3 hours after school every day. I can definitely see how that lack of positive reinforcement could give a kid issues

It's an extremely wellcrafted film. The sort of film which moviemakers appreciates. It's isn't that surprising it hit home among them. And it tops it all with a superb puppet scene

It's kind of a weird thing. You look at each scene individually and it's insanely creative and there are some amazing performances. John C Reilly in particular was really good in his small role: youtube.com
But when you put it all together the film just kinda seems vapid and shallow which is why the frenzy over it seems so overblown now. I guess you could describe the film as everyone trying to do their utter best despite it being a shallow musical and the 3 main characters not being especially good actors.
