I peruse the endless onslaught of Star Wars threads occasionally but from what I’ve seen the most annoying posters in those threads are by far the ones raging at the poor autismos stuck in that fandom rather than the fans themselves.

It simultaneously has the worst and best fan base. That is the real truth. It's true because the first three were more accessible by design to digest for a larger audience.

Star Wars really suffers from the fact the fanbase got balkanized first by the Prequels (although this seems to have faded with time and they've since been reassessed in a more positive light), then TCW, and finally Disney ownership dealing the deathblow.

That's for the best and it will keep the real old guard alive and who are passing it on to other generations. Will the old trilogy have the same magic feeling in society as it did in the 70s and 80s? Of course not, but it will become the next The Wizard of Oz in a very real way. Case in point, almost no one accepts the sequel Return to Oz, but it does exist.
